What rides trick parents and kids?

My little daredevil princess. She shocked me. We started off slow on It's a small world and haunted mansion moved up to Thunder Mountain RR which she loved. She wanted to ride the Tower of Terror because she had seen that billboard and I just knew she would be terrified. NOPE she smiled and laughed the whole time as soon as we got off she wanted to ride it again. As we exited the first time as she was skipping along there was a boy who looked like he was 10 or 12 curled up in a little ball crying. She looks and and says What's wrong with him??:rolleyes1 During our trip she also rode space mountain and test track didn't have a problem with A bugs life except for the black widows or Stitch.

eclairemom, My kids were the same way. I thought that at 4 years old, ITTBAB would be waaaay over their heads and they all did great. They loved BTMR and Splash Mountain. There wasn't a ride I took them on that they were unhappy about. We tried to start slow with Dumbo and IASW but then they were clamoring for the big stuff! I didn't try HM or Snow White because of reviews here, but as we exited Peter Pan, a much older child was screaming and crying because it was dark. And really Peter Pan is not that dark. I didn't even want to introduce why that child was upset because one of the kids might decide that they are scared of the dark too!

In all, it depends on the ride and the child.

My DD at 2 hated the Tiki Room. I took her in there to escape the heat and and thought she might like the music. She was fine until it thunder.
But on the other hand when we were there when she was 3- she loved the Haunted Mansion (she wanted to ride) but was scared of Mickey's Philharmagic. It was a bit loud and the stuff jumping off hte screen made her dive for the floor.

Stitch. That ride terrified my five year old.
I had to slide out under the restraint, slide him out of the restraint, and tried to calm him down.
He was so scared!
Also, when he was 3, the Bug's Life freaked him out. He has always been scared of bugs, and that didn't help any!
When he was 3 and the older one was 5, they didn't like Honey I Shrunk the audience. When the lion/cat comes straight at you, I AGAIN had to leave the theater with two screaming kids.
Maybe we are just lightweights!
(Of course, I had to have oxygen after I rode Tower of Terror. Paramedics and everything.:faint: And I was 32 yo at the time!)

I guess I lucked up, we just took the girls for their 1st trip (8 and almost 4) in Dec and there wasn't a single ride we went on they were scared of.

Which ride will we avoid though? Stitch, not because it was scary, though I was worried about the darkness but it just overall sucked lol Its dark, noisy and smelly (though the girls thought that was funny) but when stitch is "jumping' on you and the restraint moves up and down, you have to be careful. Oldest dd leaned forward on accident when it did it and it caught her under the chin and she complained for several hours. Luckily she wasn't hurt that bad but we'll not revisit that one.

We loved the Tiki Room and the Pirates, neither one scary and both my girls are frightend of Thunder/Lightening but did great on the tiki room. I thought it was quite cute.

Really you will know what scares your kids, so just use your best judgement and follow the kids leads :)

Why do they strap you in? It is not dangerous to get out of the restraints?

have not been on ths ride just wondering

I don't know about kids, but I know what tricked my inlaws. They thought that BTMRR was a train ride!! I feel mean, but I laugh every time I picture them on it. They are NOT roller coaster people, not even mild roller coasters like BTMRR!

We went with my nephew a few years ago and the first thing that we did on the trip was to take him into It's Tough to be a Bug. HUGE mistake. Although my children loved it, he FREAKED out and would not ride anything the rest of the trip. My BIL still talks about wasting money at Disney.

I think that you have had some great advice here.:)

I took my daughter for the past two years at 1 and 2. She seemed to enjoy more the first time(Not having that scare thing yet). Last year my daughter HATED the People Mover(I know it has a new name but I never remember it. She didn't like it b/c it spends alot of time in the dark going through SM. She also got creeped out by the flotsam and jetsum at the Ariel show at DHS. I agree about the 3D movies, we had to get up and leave at the Muppets 3D. I spent A LOT of time watching the ducks in front of the castle at MK. That was her favorite thing. She still talks about it now.

It's not really a "restraint" like you think, but its a bar that comes down over you similar to the bars for upside down roller coasters but not where near tight like that. It does move up and down like Stitch is bouncing on your shoulders and if you lean forward you could hurt your chin/neck. So it's best to keep your head straight back at all times.

The attaction doesn't spin or move just gets pitch black at times, smelly, wet, and loud.

::yes:: Our DS6 (turned 7 on the trip) and DD4 loved all the rides they went on (which was basically everything), but I made a point to avoid Stitch for those exact reasons. Unfortunately DH conned the children into wanting to ride it (I didn't go on) and when they came off DD was so upset that Stitch had such horrible manners (she's big on manners). On another note, they loved the roller coasters! We had to ride all of them at least twice (I'm not complaining, they're my favorite!).
