What rides might not be appropiate for 6 & 8 yr old??

I'm trying to map out a plan for touring the parks on our first Disney trip next month! We will be there for 4 days and will be spending 1 day at AK, 2 days at MK and 1 day at Sea World. I have 3 boys, 8, 6 and 5 months. The boys (not the baby!) have been pretty fearless at Hershey Park but I was curious how scary the rides are at Disney. EE, Space Mountain, Dinosaur and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad are the ones I'm really thinking about. Probably because I don't know if I want to ride them myself, big chicken that I am! Any feedback would be great! Thanks!

My 7 YO handled everything except Dinosaur - he was cowering with his eyes closed the entire ride - and It's Tough to be a Bug. (I have never heard so many screaming children in my life - and there is no way out........) Just for reference - He LOVED Expedition Everest and Rock n Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. He also loved Big Thunder and Space Mountains, but chickened out on Splash when he was 6. I think he would have liked it, but I wasn't going to drag him on kicking and screaming - he could see the drop and hear the people screaming, and that did him in.

We went this past November. Our DD-5, DS-8. We road everything our DD was tall enough to ride. She couldn't ride the Rock N Roller Coaster or P-Twirl...she did great. However, we are going back next January, she is NOT too thrilled to ride the Tower of Terror again...that might have been a little much for her. She road the Expedition Everest, besides being a little scared of the "monster" the ride itself was no problem.
Personally, I think Mission Space is a little intense, we won't ride it again when we go back.
NOTE: this was the first time for her to ride any type of ride...EVER!

The only rides that put fear in me as an overprotective mom are Space Mountain and rock 'n roll roller coaster. With Space Mtn, the seat restraints don't seem sufficient for a small childs body. And while Rock 'n Roll has over the shoulder harness type restraints, I fear a small child could fall out in the loops. I realize my fears don't really have a historic foundation, but remember my reference to me being over protective Most folks will say that if they meet the height requirements, then they should be fine, but I'm just a worry wart.

Interesting that most kids seem okay on EE when I'm terrified to go on it! I've heard that Dinosaur and It's Tough to Be a bug were scary. Maybe DH and I will try those alone and send the kids with my Mom to do something else. Same with Space Mountain, I know I would be very nervous if the restraints didn't seem tight enough! Thanks so much for the replies.

Are your kids ride freaks like mine? We live about 15 mins from a Six Flags and go at least 15-20 a year. We have been going there since my kids were small so they go on almost everything at Disney.

If your kids are pretty fearless they should definatley be ok on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad that is very very mild IMO.

Probably on your entire list EE is the only one I would be nervous about because there is a pretty big drop. You may also want to consider Splash Mountain that has a decent size drop as well. My son hates that ride, but loves EE.

The only issue I have with Space Mountain is that you each sit in your own seats, so if your kids are really really scared on the ride, you cannot comfort them because they are either in front of you or behind you.


Also, Atlantis at Sea Word is fun too and turns into a great surprise at the end.

My kids will ride them all. They will be 6 and 8 when we go in August and my 6 y.o. is so excited to ride Rockin' Roller Coaster! He was too short last trip. We are READY! They rode the Titan at Six Flags the other night. if they can ride that one, they can ride anything! BUT I do know that the ToT theme and staging FREAKS them out. But they want to try it again each visit to see if they are still afraid. Oh and I did lean over the seat during Space Mountain to hold his little string bean body still when he was just about to turn 5. He was tall enough, but that is one jerky ride. EE is so much smoother that even he commented on how much better it felt to his body.

I would say that anything they are brave enough to try is appropriate.
DS9 went on everything last year. The only one he doesn't want to do again is Dinosaur.
DD5 went on all the "regulars" as well as Spash Mountain, Kali, BTMRR, Soarin and Test Track. She does not want to try Tower of Terror, Snow White or the Haunted Mansion and neither her nor I will be returning to ITTBAB. (Although neither of us cried, I'm not sure who was more nervous. )

On the other hand, I had a 1st grade student who went recently and was terrified on Goofy's Barnstormer so every kid is different.

If they are nervous, start them off slowly to build bravery. If you are nervous, don't worry, my middle child is small for his age and we've never had any problems with the restraints. As long as they are tall enough and brave enough, they will be fine.

Its depens on how fearless your kids are but I would say Rockin Rollar Coastar Test Track Tower of Terer Space Mountain and Mission Space orange version I would say might not be the best thing.

Thanks for all the great info and replies! I think I'll let them take a look at the rides and see what their reactions are, except for Dinosaur and Space Mountain. DH will have to be the test pilot for those! Luckily, they are both big kids so we should be able to secure them well enough for this nervous mom! I have to say that I'm now scared to do ITTBAB and Dinosaur after reading some of these posts! Now I need to start another thread about what I can bring the baby on! Thanks again everyone...

Pretty sure someone mentioned it, but make sure you go on the non-spinning side of Mission Space.

Technically, the baby can go on anything that doesn't have a height restriction. I found that when my kids were toddlers, I was able to take them on almost everything because they didn't know enough to be scared. However, ever kid is different and some are spooked by loud noises or the dark at that age.
