What rides do you reccomend...

for my grandmother who is afraid of heights but wants to get over the fear in disney

any suggestions for the first few rides?

TIA

Peter Pan is a really cool ride. It give the appearance that you are up high, but you aren't. It was really one of my favorites.

How about Thunder Mountain RR? Its high, but not TOO high, and fast but not TOO fast!

Definitely your last test for her is astro-orbiter... it's the worst "height" ride @ Disney. Even ToT is easier for heights people.

I have never heard of astro-orbiter. Can you tell me which park it is in and what it entails? Thanks. :confused3

It's in Tomorrowland in MK. It's just a basic carnival type ride that rotates like Dumbo, but on a larger and faster scale. For me it's more fun to look at than actually ride. :earsboy:

Except it does its rotating at the top of a tall tower. I have a brave 27 yr-old friend who refuses to ride it because of heights. Astro-Orbiter

I have a fear of roller coasters, but my son says I have to ride splash/space mountain with him.

Will I be totally terrified? Also, what about Big Thunder mountain RR?

If you are afraid of roller coasters, Splash Mt. shouldn't be a problem. It's a water ride with a few drops inside. I wouldn't consider it a "thrill" ride at all.

Space Mt. is definitely a roller coaster- in the dark- and is a thrill ride. It's not as thrilling as some new coasters, but it should get your adrelin rushing.

Big Thunder Mountain RR doesn't have really any height moments.... Most of the drops have turns. The worst part for you will be the clickety-clack up the one outdoor hill. Several of the up-hills are covered, so you don't really have the height feeling too bad on those.

As for Splash mountain... there are a couple of height moments and the big drop is the main event. You will take a few teaser drops inside the mountain, you'll also float around the little rivers on the outside of the mountain where you can see out. Probably the toughest thing for you will be the anticipation up the big hill. The drop looks big and scary when you come out of the tunnel... but it doesn't last very long... I recommend for people to try it, even if they're scared because it's such a fun, cute ride. "Laughing place" will get stuck in your head and, you never know, maybe you'll find your own laughing place even though you were scared.

Nobody Really Answered The Question. What About Small World, That's Wonderful! The Carousel, Of Course. Then Of Course There Are The Fast Pass Attractions Haunted Mansion And Buzzlightyear, They Are Both A Lot Of Fun. Driving The Cars In Magic Kingdom Also Does Not Involve Heights. Then Of Course There Is Pirates And Junglecruise. For Someone Afraid Of Heights I Woul Avoid Splash Mountain, That Last Drop, You Look Out At A Large Drop. It Is Always Fun To Ride Dumbo First Thing In The Morning At Magic Kingdom And You Do Not Have To Go Too High If You Do Not Want To. If She Is Not Afraid Of Speed Or Water Than Kali River Rapids Is Areal Blast At Animal Kingdom And Of Course There Is All The Kilimanjaro Safari. These Suggestions Are All From A Granny Who Is Somewhat Afraid Of Heights. I Finally Go The Nerve To Try Splash Mountain And Even Kept My Eyes Open, But I Wouldn't Reccommend It For A First Ride. Try The Tame Ones First And Work Your Way Up. Going To Disney For The Third Year In Arow, And Might Work My Way Up To Space Mountain. Hey Grandma Have Fun! Who Says Disney Is Only For Kids. There Is Definitely Something For Everyone.

Except grandma said she wants to get over her fear in disney. GO GRANDMA!!!!

I am not thrilled with heights either. If she rides the monorail and gets stuck waiting for another one to get through boarding, and it stops over water or on one of the high spots... just tell her nothing is going to be scarier than that! :rotfl2: After all... evrything else has a secret way of getting you off... not just the windows that say can be removed for emergency! :rotfl:
Splash mountain doesn't bother me, neither does TR or SM. Astro orbiter, my daughter who likes all roller coasters hates it. She said she felt like she was tipping out of it the whole time.

I, too, am terribly afraid of heights. Peter Pan is a great suggestion because you feel like you're high, but you're not. Dumbo may sound like a silly suggestion, but it's hard to be up there if you are scared of heights. I felt very brave when I got off Dumbo! Get her to do Dumbo and the rest should be easy. Swiss Family Tree House is another one----you are climbing stairs and get progressively higher. It bothered me a bit, but when I got off I felt brave again. It's the small successes that give you the courage to try the bigger challenges!

Good luck to her---I feel her pain!! I know she'll do great!! :cheer2:

I have a little 'vertigo'. This is like a fear of heights, but it is not a fear, it is a real physio-psychological reaction. It is something that there is simply NO control over, and there is no, just 'face your fear and get over it'.

I can do rollercoasters... but, sitting suspended up high... just simply can't do it.

Anyone with a true vertigo who gets on a ride like 'Astro Orbiter' will definately wish they never had!!!!! :earseek:

Soarin' (if you're going when it's open) definately will take of that fear.

When you're riding it, tell Grandma to look down. That'll cure her! ;)

Disney is a great place to get over your fears!

I would suggest at the Magic Kingdom:
Jungle Cruise (at night, if you can!)
Pirates if the Caribbean
Splash Mountain (the ride is so imaginative and wonderful, it is a shame no to do it for fear of the last drop, or getting wet). To me, it is one of Disney's finest!
Haunted Mansion
Peter Pan
Small World
Winnie the Pooh
The Cinderella Carousel
Buzz Lightyear
Tomorrowland Transit Authority
Carousel of Progress

Epcot:
Test Track
Maelstrom
Journey To Imagination (DD loves this)
Take her to see Turtle Talk with Crush at the Living Seas, definitely... it is AWESOME, DUDE!
Ellen's Universe of Energy
Not a favorite of mine, but many others love it--- Spaceship Earth. Also, make sure to have a nice lunch or dinner in one of the countries in the World Showcase!
Soarin', if it is open when you go!

Disney MGM-
The Great Movie Ride
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Backlot Tour
Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular
Muppet Vision- 4D
Beauty and the Beast, Live on Stage
and if she is REALLY brave... Tower of Terror (talk about overcoming that fear of heights)

Animal Kingdom-
Kilomanjaro Safari
Kali River Rapids (but she may get soaked)
Don't miss Festival of the Lion King!

Hope Grandma has a great time overcoming her fear of "Flying"!
