and the question is what resteraunts, charicter (sp)meals should a 1st timer not miss popcorn::

we are on ther dinning plan and figure on the princess meal, and mickey as a must do what else? :confused3

any and all suggestions are greatly apprecated (SP)

:disrocks:
:thanks:

We have been many times and still have not tried Boma or Le Cellier but we are taking care of that in Dec!!

I would say those two are the most popular among the DisBoards so try to get those in if possible!

As far as snacks go, you have to save room for these goodies!

MK - Dole Whip, rice krispie squares and the popcorn! As soon as I smell the popcorn I am done for!

Epcot - Kakagori (like a sno cone) in Japan and school bread in Norway (like a cream donut with coconut on the outside)

I'll go ahead and say for a character meal, you need to have one at Chef Mickeys. Great food and great character interaction.

We do the Crystal Palace for breakfast on the first full day of every trip. We plan for the early seating, before the park is officially open. Main Street is virtually empty at that time of day and walking up Main Street towards CP still gives me goose bumps.

CM and 1900 park fare are both great character breakfasts. I bet your kids would also love sci fi and 50's prime time, they are "fun" meals. I also love Le cellier and coral reef!

I would say for a 1st timer do Boma, San Angel Inn, Le Cellier, and Sci-Fi (for the Disney experince of it). I would also definately do a character meal. I like the breakfast at Chef Mickey's. Also, go to the Flame Tree BBQ at DAK.

'Ohana
Boma
Crystal Palace for any of the three meals

These are my favorites!

My three are Liberty Tree Tavern for a Character meal, Chef Mickey and Le Cellier. Those are three that we would do again. For snacks we ALWAYS go to France for Pastry. mmmmmmmmmmm

The boys love going to Pizza Planet (the food is just OK nothing earth shattering but a 1000 times better than Mama Melrose) so we always hit there as well.

I love Crystal Palace for breakfast!!! Dinner too really. I also like 50's but not a good place to go if you don't like lots of attention.

Our family favorites for fun and good food include Crystal Palace for breakfast (great food and fun interaction with characters), 1900 Park Fair (a must if you have a Cinderella lover in your midst), and Whispering Canyon (We go more for lunch than any other meal.).

For really good food, we visit Kona Cafe for breakfast and dinner (My favorites are the Tonga Toast and the MahiMahi.), Grand Floridian Cafe for lunch (love, love, love the lunch foods here!!!!), Mama Melrose for the flatbreads, Le Cellier for the cheese soup, Marrakesh (again, the kids surprise us by really enjoying the food!), Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch (I really like the grilled chicken salad.), and Rain Forest Cafe.

When we visit WDW without the kids, dh and I always visit the California Grill. I CRAVE the pork tenderloin from there!!! One of these days, we'll make it to Jiko. We make reservations each trip, then always chance the ressie to Boma at the last moment.

Our biggest disappointments this past year have included: O'hana (I don't like the menu changes.), Rose & Crown (yuck, yuck, and more yuck!!!), Chef Mickey's for breakfast (all food in the serving areas for waaaaayyyyy too long and character interaction poor), Cape May Cafe (sandy seafood does nothing for me), Prime Time (fun but less than stellar food), and Brown Derby (nowhere near as good as the various hotel restuarants but more pricey than many).

Le Celliers is a MUST for us, it is located in the Canada section of Epcot. We also always do Ohanas and Sci~fi (kids favorite)!

Last May, our children were 5 (DD) & 3 (DS), and we tried & enjoyed the following character meals:

Chef Mickey's breakfast - Contemporary Resort
Cinderella's Royal Table breakfast - Magic Kingdom
Crystal Palace lunch - Magic Kingdom
Liberty Tree Tavern dinner - Magic Kingdom
Princess Storybook dinner - Epcot (Norway - Akersus)

In addition, we tried the following other TS restaurants:

Trail's End breakfast - Fort Wilderness
Boma dinner - Animal Kingdom Lodge
Hollywood & Vine dinner (Fantasmic Dinner Package) - MGM
'Ohana dinner - Polynesian Resort

We enjoyed all of the above restaurants & would recommend them all except for Hollywood & Vine.

This June, we have the following character meals scheduled for next week:

Chef Mickey's breakfast
Donald's Breakfastasauras - Animal Kingdom
Princess Storybook breakfast (may cancel; haven't decided)
Cinderella's Royal Table lunch
Crystal Palace lunch
Garden Grill lunch - Epcot (Future World - The Land)
Liberty Tree Tavern dinner

And, we have the following other TS restaurants scheduled:

Tony's Town Square lunch - Magic Kingdom
Mama Melrose's dinner (Fantasmic Dinner Package) - MGM
San Angel Inn dinner - Epcot (Mexico)
Whispering Canyon Cafe dinner - Wilderness Lodge

Our favorite counter service restaurants at each park are the following:

Magic Kingdom - Columbia Harbour House
Epcot - Sunshine Seasons
MGM - Toy Story Pizza Planet
Animal Kingdom - Flame Tree BBQ
Downtown Disney - Earl of Sandwich

Have fun choosing!

My two cents:

First timers shouldn't worry too much about restaurants. There will be PLENTY to do without worry about running halfway across Disney (the size of Manhatten) to get to your dinner reservations. Do some planning for which park you will be in, which hotels you are near, and choose an appropriate nearby restaurant. Particularly when traveling with a toddler and a young child.

I haven't had BAD food in fifteen years. But I've had meals that weren't worth the time I invested in getting there - and as a repeat visitor I at least understand the committment to travel and have been on almost every Disney attraction once, so I know what sacrifices I'm making. The thing I shake my head over the most on the restaurant board is people who think they can bop over to Beaches and Cream for lunch from the Magic Kingdom (sure you can - plan on three hours from the time you start to leave the MK until you are back at the MK in line for another attraction). Or that you can see the 3:00 Parade from the castle end of MainStreet and not be rushed to make it to a 4:30 dinner in Japan.

You do, however, want to plan that much and get ADRs made. It used to be possible, but sometimes disappointing to wing it, its gotten to be almost impossible unless you do your sit down at lunch, and then its often disappointing. Restaurants are generally booked to the max.

(Le Cellier has pretty good food - but its just a steakhouse - nothing particularly fun. As opposed to Sci Fi, which is a lot of fun, but the food is adequate at best).

If anyone is into sports try the ESPN Club on the Boardwalk. They have awesome food with a "sports" atmosphere. This year we are trying new restaurants:
Chef Mickey's for Breakfast
The Luau Show

and going back to our favorites:
50's Prime Time Cafe
Liberty Tree Character Dining
Flametree Barebecue
ESPN Club

I know there is more but I am having a "senior moment" right now, lol
