We are doing CRT with DD (6) and I would like to find something for my DS
(8). He is not into characters (unless they have Phineas and Ferb?). Are there any cool Disney restaurants that would be equally impressive to him?

Thanks !!
Amy

Coral Reef, Sci-Fi Dine-in, T-REX and San Angel Inn have interesting interiors. My kids enjoy them!

I agree with Coral Reef and Sci-Fi. If you're not on the DDP Sci-Fi is affordable for lunch.

My DGS loved Ohana and 50' prime time when he was 8! Oh and Hoop de doo was his favorite! This time we are trying Boma and WCC for him as well at CP breakfast and CM dinner for the little on who is 2

I have an 8 year old son as well and I think he would be impressed by T-Rex in Downtown Disney. I also recommend Whispering Canyon Cafe. It's loud, rowdy and provides plenty of fun antics, decent BBQ and bottomless milk shakes (which was a big hit with my son!)

When DD was 8, she loved these (she is NOT a Princess-y girl):
Biergarten
Sci Fi Dine In
'Ohana
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Teppan Edo

Places that weren't around then that sound cool for an 8 year old:
T-Rex
Via Napoli

Places we haven't been but sound good for an 8 year old boy:
50's Prime Time
ESPN
Rainforest Cafe

Oooh! Teppen Edo is a good choice too :). I wouldn't put ESPN Club on the list. It's mostly a bar with bar food.

Thanks for the replies!! Yes, he would love Trex cafe but it's DTD. With our tickets (non park hopper just a 6 day MYW pass) could we leave a park, go eat at DTD then come back to the same park without us being docked two days??

Iforgot to add....we are staying offsite so would we have to pay for parking again if we go to DTD and come back or do they have shuttles that go from the parks to DTD??

I'll second Whispering Canyon Cafe. Among other things: Bottomless Shakes (but you don't have to tell him that).

Yes, you can return to the same park on the same day.

And you don't have to pay for parking twice.

The busses don't run from the parks to DTD, so there would be an extra hop to a resort.

When you go to a disney park you will get a parking pass and that is good for all day no matter what park you go to. In your case, because you do not have hopper passes you can only go back to same park you were in that morning. You also do not have to use two days to get into the same park again. There is transportation to dtd but you would have to go to a hotel and than take the bus etc from there, unless you went to one of the resorts on the Sas river then you can take the water shuttle. Driving would probably be the easiest to do and less time.

My almost 8 year old DS LOVES WCC, T-Rex, and Coral Reef. They are must-dos now every single trip!

Anyone know how long the drive is from Epcot to Downtown Disney? Do you think going to DTD and then back to Epcot will eat up a lot of our time? How about going to a resort for dinner? Would that eat up more or less time??

Whispering Canyon cafe looks really neat!DH will love it too!! I am going to make reservations for there......

Any suggestions on what day I should make reservations i.e. - is it easier to get there from a certain park??

I am still trying to get a dinner reservation for TREX cafe but all the dinners are booked for the week we are going :sad1:

We hadn't been to ESPN- I figured maybe if he was a sports nut, they could go and eat there. Don't they have sports memoribilia there? But, if it's mainly a bar, it probably wouldn't be the best for a little boy...

If he's in to sports and TV's, then it would be a fun place to visit. If a major game is being watched, then it becomes a little more like a bar.

By car, Epcot to DTD is less than 10 minutes. You shouldn't eat up much time at all going back and forth. It is easy to get back and forth- lots of signage so you won't get lost.

The resorts closest to Epcot are Boardwalk and Beach/Yacht Club. You can walk out the International Gateway (between UK and France in the WS) right to either resort in 5 minutes or less.

OH! If your DS is into burgers and ice cream, he might like Beaches & Cream at the Beach Club. It is a cute little 50's diner-style place. That would be really close to Epcot. The No Way Jose or Kitchen Sink are AMAZING ice cream sundae desserts there, and the burgers are really good. Waits can be a little long, but the place is fun.
