What resorts are available for purchase?

The last I heard all DVC resorts were "sold-out" other than BLT and AKV. Is this still the case or have other resorts opened up? We are highly considering buying into DVC, but would rather have our home resort be BCV or BWV. Thanks in advance.

Disney is actively selling AKV and BLT and Aulani (new on Oahu) because they are not officially "sold out." They can sell you points at the other resorts, including the ones you are interested in, but they might not have exactly the UY you are looking for or the amount of points you are looking for. They also will not have any incentives to buy. I read that BCV is $115/pt and you would get current UY points. I am not sure what the price for BWV is, but a guide could tell you. A friend of mine just bought points at BCV, so I know it is possible, and I had called about adding on points, and they were available. I also inquired about VGC, which is sold out, and there was a small waitlist.

You can, of course, buy any of these resorts on the resale market, but you have to pick and choose from the size of the contracts and the UY.

You are right to want to buy where you want to stay, so I would call and ask about the resort you want to call home :).

It is true that Disney is only actively selling Aulani (Hawaii), AKV, BLT and GCV (Disneyland). Even though the other resorts are technically "sold out," Disney sometimes chooses to buy points back through the resale market or obtains them through other means (e.g., defaults on loans) and turns around and resells those points.

If you buy direct, you may have to settle for whatever UYs they have available, or may have to wait until points and/or your preferred UY becomes available. You will also have to buy a minimum number of points. If you haven't yet, you may want to research buying resale. There are pros/cons to both direct and resale, but if money is a major driver, you'll definitely save going the resale route. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info!!:)
But now this has brought up another question. Why would I want a certain UY over another?

Well, UY choice has to do with the banking window and planning ahead for changes, cancellations, etc. We have a Feb UY and have never had any problem booking only November trips, but most would say if we always traveled in November, to get a September, October or November UY.

So let's say you are going in November 2011. If you have a November UY, you could use points that become available November 1, 2011. You can book this 11 months in advance, so in December 2010. If for some reason something happens and you need to cancel or change, your November 1 points will be very recent and therefore would not be put into holding status and would go right back into your November 2011 UY.

For us, we have Feb UY. We get those points on February 1 and they have to be banked by October 30. We travel November 20. So if for some reason we had to cancel our trip 31+ more in advance, we would still get the points back, but without a lot of time to use them wisely, and just a short time to bank them.

We weren't picky about our original UY because we just knew that we wanted to own at BCV. Any month seemed as good as any other. If I had to do it over, I might consider a Fall UY, but we have NEVER had a problem and NEVER had to cancel, yet.

Does that make sense? Which time of year do you think you would mostly likely travel to WDW?

It is personal preference. If you typically travel during the same time of year, then yes use year may be an important factor. Also, if you buy a use year that has not come up yet (June - December) and buy direct, you would get the extra points for the 2010 use year.

I would buy resale probably next time for a small add on. We have 260 pts, bought direct, but would like to have a little more in 3 yrs or so so we can always have a 2 bedroom once our girls get a little older. That being said, for my large point contracts, I am glad I bought direct even though I spent more. It was smooth, hassle free and I got last year's points and went on two trips last year.

Disney still has alot of inventory to sell at SSR too. Keep in mind, BCV and BWV contracts end in 2042. BLT ends in 2060, AKV in 2057 and SSR in 2054.

you want to travel as early in your UY as possible. also, you ideally never want to travel in the last 3 months or so of your UY (jun-jul-aug for a sept UY) - largely due to traveling after your banking window has closed (8 months into your current UY), which limits your options for any current year pts used to book the stay.

use year month is only an issue if you need to cancel. it has nothing to do with when you can call to book a stay.

some examples:

if you have a june UY and a may 2012 trip and you need to cancel 60 days out, your banking window closed on jan 31, 2012 so you'd have to use all of the pts in the reservation before they expire on may 31, 2012.

if you have a june UY and a june 2012 trip and you need to cancel 60 days out, your banking window won't close until jan 31, 2013 so you'd have until then to decide whether to use current year (2012) pts for a reservation in that UY or else bank them to the next year. (you'd still need to use banked and borrowed pts by may 31, 2013.)

if you have a june UY and a may 2012 trip and you need to cancel 5 days out, the pts would turn into "holding" pts so you'd have to use all of the pts in the reservation subject to a 60-day-out limitation - but that won't matter since they expire on may 31...which is less than 60 days out.

if you have a june UY and a june 2012 trip and you need to cancel 5 days out, the pts would turn into "holding" pts so you'd have to use all of the pts in the reservation subject to a 60-day-out limitation - but at least you'd have 12 months before they expire on may 31, 2013 to decide what to do with them.
