What Resort is next???

I believe there are site (ground condition) problems along the Epcot monorail.

I know the Tower portion of the Contemporary was built from prefabricated rooms that were lifted into place by crane. Does any know whether this is true of the Garden wings as well?

In any case, it seems likely to me in my ignorance that it would impractical to "remodel" any portion of the Contemporary into a DVC resort. The Garden wing(s) would have to be razed and rebuilt. That doesn't mean it won't happen.

No the wings were built years after the Tower. Not the same type and yes - they would probably (like DI) go to the ground if DVC gets them - if WDW is redoing then no - they will get fix up the insides (again).

Please correct me if I am wrong, but haven't they done a great deal of excavation work over at the Eagle Pines site? I thought I remember someone saying that this was the case.

I don't necessarily believe that SSR came about because of the infrastructure already being in place, although it was a distinct advantage. I think Disney saw an opportunity to do something with space that was underutilized to the n th degree. I mean the old DI site wasn't really a bustling hub of activity in the recent past. I think there idea was let's do something to generate some income with this land instead of having these buildings sitting idle.

I think the last thing that DVC needs is to add on to another existing hotel. But if they did, do you really think that they would select the CR over AKL or GF?? What they need to do is construct another version of OKW with the larger rooms, but I doubt that will ever happen.

I'm wondering, however, if that big patch of empty land next to CR in the pic at the link below would be an inviting place for a standalone DVC resort. A road would obviously have to be built over the canal there.

I've never stayed at the AKL, but many people have stated here that the layout of the resort really isn't condusive to a DVC add-on.

The Contemporary seems to be a popular rumor due, in part, to the poor condition of the Garden wings. Apparently they are in pretty bad shape right now, and the common perception seems to be that it would make more sense for DVC to take-over at least part of this area, demolish the current structure, and construct brand new villas.

If you're referring to the area toward the top of your photo, Disney actually wanted to build a resort there years ago. Search for info on the "Venetian" and you'll get all of the gory details. Basically they had a plan, started ground work, and then found that the location was unsuitable for contstruction (those darn swamps!!!)

That patch of empty land was originally planned for a resort- (I'll have to dig out my 1972 WDW property map :) ).

Apparently, the land is a little unstable. The Seven-Seas Lagoon was excavated by Disney and some of the excavated dirt was used for the MK (above the utilidors), but that area of ground has proved to be unsuitable for a resort.

As for a roadway, they road already travels under the canal between 7 Seas and Bay Lake. There is a water bridge that passes over the roadway that you use to get to the CR and MK.

Eagle Pines did some initial clearing and constructed an access bridge a couple of years ago, but I'm not aware of any further construction since that time. Any further needed infrastructure still needs to be built at that site.

SSR did have the advantage- both in terms of cost and time- to already have utilities, sewage and some usable buildings already in place. An advantage not enjoyed at Eagle Pines. (Similar to the advantages of adding a DVC resort to WV and BC- where those needed aspects already existed.)

Stay Tuned!

I havent stayed in a garden wing since November 2000, but I didn't have any problems, actually we loved our two trips there. We stayed on the first floor facing the lake, it was great to sit out on the little patio and watch the water parade. It's a shame that they went that down hill, they were dark, but always very clean and in good shape!
