What resort is closer to the International Gateway at EPCOT

If your worried about which has the shorter walk, wait 'til you see the walk around the world showcase. ;)

Caskbill has posted detailed GPS reports for various distances around WDW including BWV/MGM, BWV/EC and Crescent Lake.

Caskbill's Pathway Reports. Links to his other reports are available on that page. Unfortunately, his photos have not survived changes to the site since they were originally posted, but the written reports are still very valid.

It looks like it's about .66 miles from the MGM turnsyles to Luna Park. BCV is definitely closest to International Gateway, as it's about 100 yards from the farthest villa at BCV to the walkway and another 75 yards or so from there.

Enjoy!

A question about the international gateway. I know that area of the park doesnt open up until 2 hours after the front half of the park. So how do you get into epcot from BWV/BCV when the park first opens during the day?

The IG opens at 9 am or whenever the front part of the park opens. There are no longer ropes on the Great Britain and Canada side like there used to be. If you need to get into the park earlier because of a special breakfast you can get in at 8 am if your name is on the reservation list for the breakfast-I went to the princess breakfast at Norway and got in at 8 am at IG.

Disagree. To take the boat from BCV is to walk away from Epcot to the boat dock - a distance that is almost as far if not further than walking from BCV to the Int'l Gateway. Why bother, just walk to Epcot.

While I agree that BCV is a tad closer - the resort does ask that you not use the walkways around the BC - the ones that go right next to the ground floor rooms. If you comply with that, then the distance becomes comparable to the closest BWV room because you have to walk all the way thru to the resort lobby and then out to the lake walkway.

Wow!! I didn't know that!! It seemed like EVERYBODY was walking on those walkways!! I guess there are a LOT of people who either don't know, or don't care.

it is a longer walk from BCV to the boat dock than it is to the entrance of Epcot....so taking the boat to Epcot is a longer walk and takes more time waiting for the boat and then going on the boat first to the BWV then to Epcot...so unless you just love the boat ride there is no good reason to take the boat from BCV to Epcot...

OK, I looked at an aerial photograph. It appears that walking from the lobby of BWI/BWV is about the same as walking from the middle of the parking lot at BCV, i.e. not very much farther than from the farthest rooms in BCV. (I never denied BCV was closer.)

In three BCV stays I have never seen or heard that request, kathleena. I don't doubt you but I'm curious -- Where did you see or hear it?

In any case I doubt that many will obey that request as going through the lobby adds a lot of distance to the walk. I've made that walk many times and never noticed any "privacy problems". If that's what BC is concerned about, they need to build us a shorter path rather than asking us to take a longer one.

I was told by a CM when we asked how to get around to the walkway. They told us the outer walkway was for BC guests along that route and that we should go thru the lobby.

But, ya know, things change! Who knows what they are saying now????

And just to be honest, we have used the path too. Although we made sure the kids kept quiet and off the patios.

When we were there we walked through the villas following the path to the quiet pool area and then walked through the pool area and out to the walkway. This was all public area that was clearly marked with signs to get to the pool and did not involve going back to the lobby.

I think I started a popular thread. :teeth:

Thanks the the information everyone.

I originally made the photo below for this same question when it came up on this board before. From the satellite image, the red line would be from the BWV front entrance to the IG at Epcot. The green line is approximately from the BCV lobby to the IG at Epcot. (Note satellite photo taken before BCV was constructed)

This path shows going around the outside of the BC rooms. I had never heard anyone from Disney say not to go that way.

As they say--a picture is worth a thousand words. And, of course, vindication is sweet, LOL. :)

cool - thanks
I didnt realize how close it really is

DS still doesnt want to walk - lol - says we can take a bus!

I usually take the bus from BCV to the TTC, hop on the monorail to Epcot, walk back to the IG and get there just as the park closes. NOW, I find out there is a quicker way!

The Epcot distance comparison between BCV and BWV is close enough that I strongly suspect the closest room in BWV is closer than the farthest room at BCV. But as I don't have GPS equipment, I can't prove anything. In either case the walk is on the order of 10 minutes, maybe 5 if you're in a close room and really hustle.

On the other hand, BWV is signficantly closer to MGM than BCV.

It also depends if you are at the end of those LONG hallways at the BWV. That could add several miles to the trip from the reports I have read here.

I'm thinking that CM didn't get it right. WHY would Disney have opened up the pathway FROM BCV leading to that pathway around BC then? It would actually cause MORE congestion having everyone funnel through the BC lobby. We have always used the pathway and never had even a hint that it wasn't supposed to be used. Saying it is for BC guests is like saying Dune Coves is only for BCV. The resorts share facilities - including pools and walkways.

Anyway, here is a pic I have showing the pathway in question:

Oh, and having stayed at BWV last July - BCV is a MUCH shorter walk to Epcot. :teeth:

"Saying it is for BC guests is like saying Dune Coves is only for BCV. The resorts share facilities - including pools and walkways."

I really don't think we were told that because of some "exclusive use" clause.

We were told because of privacy and being respectful - lets face it - the path is inches away from the patios and a few feet from the doors.
