What reason did you pick your Home Resort?

We bought VWL because of theming, we just loved staying at the WL and AKL, the two hotels.
Then, we went over to the Boardwalk, believe it or not, with all of our trips, we had never been over there. We bought Boardwalk Villas, If I am going to stay there, I wanted a Boardwalk view.
Then, I could never seem to get a room, at Beach Club, so I bought Beach Club to get the 11 month booking window. My husband said, " that is enough". So what happens, AKV's is announced, that is my next to favorite hotel, so I had to buy AKV's, We love the Savanna view, I have missed not staying there. Truly now, that is it for us.

OKW - style (condo), theme (Caribbean influenced, Key West style Victorian), value (points, dues, villa sizes)

BCV - location (adjacent to Epcot, near Studios and Boardwalk), SAB, theme (early 20th century Mid-Atlantic "stick-style" seaside resort), 11 month booking for December

AKV - theme (African thatched-roof, hewn-timber lodge in a savanna setting inspired by the historic expeditions of 19th century)

These were our picks and reasons as well.

We were looking into Resale before we bought at SSR. We were leaning toward OKW as the resale points were dirt cheap. It came down to the 12 extra years for us. We just did an add on there. We were thinking about AKL, but after seeing the leopard skin carpet decided to stay with the classic decor of SSR. While I think AKL will be fun for an occasional visit, I don't think I could live with the decor for 50 years.

SSR
-We could walk to the movie theater at DTD (just in case there is nothing to do...lol)
- All the restaurants at DTD
- I love the decor

After staying at BCV we were hooked on DVC. The friends & Family promo was too good to pass up so we "settled" for SSR. We are hoping to stay at every DVC resort, but if I have to stay at SSR I'll live.

BWV - Only resort avaialbe at the time I purchasd (late summer 2000). Loved the Epcot Resorts area so it was a no-brainer.

BCV - BC is my favorite Disney Resort not named the Polynesian Resort... SAB, Cape May Cafe, Beaches and Cream... Reminds me a 'summer house' in Cape Cod...

SSR - Most recent. Bought because I prefer this 'type' of DVC resort (Akin to OKW). Love the additional years and the price I got plus previous years points...

Initially hubby and I decided that we would buy into the newest resort whatever that may be when we were going to buy. So we bought SSR. We really liked it.

Honestly didn't do much research in regards to resales, other resorts and the like. We knew we could trade out if we wanted and said we would try all of them once but will be content with SSR all the time.

We also wanted the longer contract.

So if we were to buy 2 years from now it would most likely be AKV.

Haven't read all the posts but will answer why we bought where we did. At the time we bought we were staying at BWV's and had a idea how much it cost to stay there on cash. Waiting in line at Cape May I got to talking to the DVC sales person and was surprised how reasonable it cost especially because we went every year. At that time they were selling BWV and we were already in love with it so we went home and talked our friends into buying with us. A couple years later they were selling BCR and we also bought there to add to our points. We certainly did not know you could buy at other resorts because never had been on this website. Still we never regretted the resorts that we had bought at. Years later we took relatives during spring break and booked late so all we could get was OKW. We went down really disappointed that we couldn't show them BWV but were pleasantly surprised to fall in love OKW. After that trip went home and bought 300 points at OKW and now we stay there most of the time because we usually bring friends or family with us and love the extra room. When it is time to go by ourselves we will probably go over to the BWV area.
