As a local I listen to 105.1, which is your standard top 40 pop hits. Nothing too bad in it. They also do Friday Night 80's where you can call in with your favorite 80's artist or song. I also like 101.1 which is rock, but it can be PG-13 at times. Be aware of two stations that are often advertised - 96.5 and 88.3.
96.5 advertises on the side of the road billboards to be an all news station - which it is in the mornings and evenings during rush hour. It does a good job of covering national and local news plus weather and traffic. In case of a huge storm they also stop their regular broadcast to report on the weather which is nice when there is bad thunder and lightning and you want to know what is going on. However, in their non-busy times they have talk shows that a super-duper conservative. Seriously, each person starts their show about how Obama is ruining the country and all that jazz. Now, it doesn't matter what your political party is, but that is not news, that is opinion. It is very frustrating when someone like me wants to know if there is any traffic on the way to work and Sean Hannity and Herman Cain are shouting about politics. It might be okay if they covered all sides of the political spectrum but they don't.
Also, Z88.3 is advertised a lot (especially on bumper stickers) as being "Safe for the Little Ears." That sounds great, isn't it? A station the whole family can listen to? Well, it's a Christian radio station. In my opinion, that is also a bit of false advertising. If you like Christian music, be my guest, but for anyone else who doesn't enjoy Christian music (like me who is Jewish) it isn't really a good slogan.
