I like this bag. It is called the Donner by Overland.

One of my favorite features is that it has a place on each side (the ends) to slide in a water bottle. Those slots hold really large water bottles too. Like I have inserted the large refillable cups that they sell at our local Wild Waves store.
I also have the bagalini that the PP mentioned, but it won't stay in the right place to be comfortable (I know some folks have sewn the strap) and I end up wearing it backwards so that I can get to my stuff easily.
This one does get heavy though, especially if I load my camera in it.
I have gone the regular backpack plenty of times and that is really handy. This trip I may go that route, as we will need water to keep hydrated. But if I do, I will probably try to go without a purse, as it is harder to keep track of all that. Maybe a fannypack....
