What product do you use for another purpose?

I was reading Heloise's column the other day and she suggested
using hair conditioner to shave your legs with. It does make my legs
feel better. I never would have thought of using that though.

I use cinnamon at my back door for the ants. Apparently they have the stuff.

My DMIL uses Vicks vapor rub for mosquito bites.

What do you use that it wasn't intended for?

I use toothpaste for cleaning sneakers and scuff marks.

I use baking soda to clean out my baked on crud on the bottoms of my pans

Dryer sheets to dust

toothpaste to clean silverware and silver jewelry

fingernail polish on chigger bites

fingernail polish on panty hose

twisty ties on spoons (to "hang" them on the edge of a pot or bowl)

boys on the vacuum cleaner (no wait, you mean kids are "SUPPOSED" to be used to clean up their messes??)

I assume you want to keep this topic clean, right? ;)

Hmm... let's see..

Toothpaste for pimples, dryer sheets in clothes drawers for that nice smell, clear nail polish for stocking runs,. That's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure there's more!

I used cinnamon last year to kill the mold that was growing in our yard! We had such a snowy winter and wet spring, I got mold on the bare spots of my lawn. My boyfriend suggested it and darn, it worked! :p

I use lemons and salt to clean my cutting board. I dice a lot of onions and peppers. Without a lemon/salt rub afterwards, yuck!

I use vinegar to rinse my hair. It strips all the hairspray and stuff out of my hair. I only do it on weekends though because it does leave my hair smelling like vinegar. It takes about two washings to get the vinegar smell to go away, but boy is it shiney and soft after the rinse! Stinky ... but shiney and soft. :p

Like I admitted in another post I use dish detergent for just about EVERYTHING... laundry, bubble bath, shampoo... whatever needs to be cleaned!

I also use mayonnaise as a hair conditioner, ond of the best ever!

I use baking soda to wash my hair. It also takes out the product build up from gel and hairspray. It doesn't leave a bad smell either. I only use it about once a month.

I use hairspray to kill bugs.

I use nail polish remover for scuff marks.

I use baby wipes for EVERYTHING!!!

I use babywipes as eye make-up remover. Target has a huge pack of 80 for .83. I put them in huge Ziploc bag and they last forver.

vinegar as a substitute for Jet Dry in the dishwasher.

I've used fishing tackle boxes to store craft supplies, sewing supplies, make-up, etc.. Very handy, IMO.

Since others have mentioned dryer sheets...

We rub the dog down with ours before we go out if he's starting to get "musty".

I use my fingers as Q-Tips...does that count? :teeth:

After a woman I work with told me about Lestoil for stains, I've been using it religiously. It works wonders even on baked in stains!

Although that purpose is listed on the bottle.

I didn't realize some of this stuff. I'll have to try some of them.
I'm not sure about the vinegar. Maybe if I use it with the baking
soda it won't smell but the bubbles might be interesting.

I forgot, my dad uses salt to brush his teeth. He says that it tightens
his gums. The Dentist was surprised when he told him this. My dad still has his own teeth.

And yes, try to keep this clean. LOL

I use dryer sheets to clean out the lint filter on the dryer. You don't have to pick at the lint to get it up.:sunny:

LOVE THIS THREAD!!!

I use vinegar (& water) to wash my ceramic tiled floor. It cleans, disinfects & leaves the floor with a beautiful non-streaked shine. Cheap too! (I buy the gallon sized container at Sam's Club!)

I also use used dryer sheets to dust the TV screens. Keeps dust off longer than using anything else!

I use a paintbrush to dust little nooks & crannies. I also pack a few sheets of tissue paper when traveling to line the drawers with before laying my clothes in them. (Does that count?)

Some shampoo & water in a sink & dump my hairbrush & combs in there to clean them.

**EDITED TO ADD** I also use my DH's socks (which have been washed of course) that have holes in them (like the heel part), to slip my hand into & use to polish furniture.

everything counts!!

It seems that vinegar and dryer sheets get alot of use. I guess that I need to use dryer sheets intead of the liquid.

I also put a couple of Dryer Sheets in my suitcases before I store them. Makes them smell great for when you repack!

Another dryer sheet... I use dryer sheets to stop static cling on my clothes that I am wearing instead of static guard... smells better too!
