What port if CC is closed due to weather?

If you have been diverted due to bad weather, or after CC has been devistated by hurricane, where were you taken instead? Do you have more days at sea? or do they go to a different port?

You have an extra day at sea. DCL does try there best to dock at CC but there are times they just can not.

Well it's not a complete lose. They do give you 15.00 port charges back. On our cruise they even gave free 'drinks of the day' for 1 hour on deck 9, seemed a fair trade off after missing 2 ports...Mark

You missed two ports? Which cruise did you go on? My Dh would be in heaven with the free drink thing.........

I am sure. At least they did something for you guys. I always say I go on the cruise for the ship....but I like the Cayman's and I LOVE CC!!!
Years ago on NCL we missed there isalnd due to Hurricane Andrew, it was disappointing but it was our first cruise. So we had no clue. To miss CC is devasting. BUT to miss two ports....that is just awful. I guess they could not take you anywhere else. Sorry this happened to you guys.....

What happens really depends on whether they have enough notice to make alternate plans. If you can't dock at CC because of local weather (like too windy or seas too rough), you just get an extra day at sea unless you're on the 4 day Wonder when they try to dock the next day.

If it's something that they can plan for, like last year when Castaway was closed for a while after Jeanne, they try to find alternate ports if possible.

On our first cruise we missed CC. This was a 4 day on the Magic, back before the Magic started doing 7 days. We missed CC, so we had a day at sea. The next day which was supposed to be our day at sea, they tried CC again, no luck. So they took us to Key West. I don't know if they do that anymore.

when hugo blew apart c.c. (and several other ports) our cruise itinerary was completly changed: it became the first ever disney cruise to cozumel.

when michelle prevented our docking at c.c. we had a day at sea (with a bunch of activities being thrown together to do onboard).

our next trip is in november-here's to hoping that 3rd times a charm and we actualy make it (i personaly don't believe the place exists, kind of like the lost city of atlantis ).

This is one of the big advantages of the 4 night cruise. They have two days they can try to dock at CC. If they can't dock on Tuesday, they try again on Wednesday. The 3 & 7 do not have this option.

We have been on six cruises and only missed CC once due to Hurricane Jeanne last September.

It really depends on the behavior of the bad weather. We missed CC last year because of Hurricane Jeanne. If it wasn't on it's way back to the east coast of Florida, we would probably had spent the day at sea. Since that wasn't the case, the captain made a decision to make an early return to Port Canaveral. Hence we disembarked Friday at 10 pm (instead of Saturday morning). After all the passengers were taken care of, the Magic had to head out to sea because of danger of damage if it stayed at port...besides, the port authorities shut Port Canaveral down so DCL had no choice. The magic returned to the Port for the next cruise which left Monday instead.

Since the possibility always exists for there to be bad weather and miss CC, the key is to NOT make that the be all and end all of your trip. Folks who sail planning to go with the flow and have a great time no matter where you go almost always do.

In cruising as with most other things, attitude has a lot more to do with what you get out of it than circumstances.
