I moved from a walkable area. Before, I could walk to almost anything I needed. Grocery store, 2 big-box stores, & a mall; CVS and Walgreens pharmacies, 4 banks, my insurance agent, dry cleaner, 3 Chinese restaurants, 3 pizza/sub shops, 6 casual restaurants, 2 'fine dining', Dunkin's, walking trails built on the old rr bed, and an amusement park.
Now I live in the middle of everything -- and none of it is in safe walking distance. Overall, most of the distances are a little to a lot further, but between the traffic and the lack of sidewalks I wouldn't even THINK about walking here.
I can walk to 'Geezer Central' aka the main building, where the Dining Room and Health Center are, the swimming pool and craft room...
I traded walkability for safety and security in a 55+ community. It's a very nice 'geezer colony', but I miss being able to go anywhere without having to take my car.
