What "perks have we lost over the years?

It seems to me that we have lost several perks since joining.
The discounts seem to be less. The ones they add never seem to be where we want to go.

Disney seems to cater to one time visitors more than thier loyal repeat customers.

It seems strange that get a discount at dolphin hotel pool resturants but not at at my "Home BWV"for example.

We just recieved the discount on AP & PAP seems like a nice perk to me !!!!!, these perks were just an extra from DVC I'm not complaining :cool1:

The AP and PAP are of no use to our family so it really isn't a perk to us.

Since there are two identical threads from the OP, I will paste my earlier response from the other thread:

Not sure what perks we have lost, but in my opinion we gained a biggie-- The annual pass discount.

The PAP discount and valet parking are the only two that I will use on a regular basis.

Those perks combined with the DDE, make me pretty happy! :drinking:

Sure miss the free passes!!! It is nice to get the AP discount now but still saved us thousands in those first years.

By defintion, all DVC "perks" are temporary and not a fixed component of ownership. Thus, they may be changed at any time. This includes the current list of dining discounts, pool hopping, discounts on recreation, etc.

Over the years we have seen many changes in the member benefits (perks), but I just prefer to think of them as an evolving component of membership. Even the ability for non-home resort reservations at 7 months and the specific number of points needed for a given room on a given night can change (the only time the point charts have changed was in 1996- so it can and has changed).

The free admission passes were not really a perk, they were the first sales incentive and the December 31, 1999 end date was written into the contract of all who got them. There was never any confusion about that program going away.

We have had changes in the golf program, the dining program has gone away and the dining discounts change frequently. The 10% discount on UPH passes has also been discontinued (since the UPH pass itself was discontinued), but has been replaced with the current discount on AP/PAP. Most were delighted with that offering and a few have voiced disappointment over that change. The offerings in the World Passport and Concierge Collection have changed - losing some options and adding others (I think more have been added than lost).

Perhaps we should focus on the guaranteed, unchangeable aspects of ownership. We are contractually entitled to the 11 month reseravtion priority at our home resort and the total number of points at that resort cannot be changed (thus any increase in points for a given night must be balanced by a corresponding decrease for some other nights). Beyond that, most aspects of DVC ownership can (and probably will) change over time.

I'm going to enjoy what we are guaranteed and not worry too much about what else is offered thru our membership. Everything else is the icing!

I joined in 1999 at BWV, so I never had the free passes. I just missed the AP discount because I had to buy new AP's last December. But I'm happy with my DVC! The biggest perk is the gorgeous rooms! I have 250 points, which gives me 11 nights a year in a 1 bedroom (5 at OKW in May and 6 at BWV in early December). My dues are about $1,100. At rack rate, the 11 nights would be $4,878. I paid $65 per point, I could probably get close to $80 if I sold. Most timeshares rapidly depreciate. Any "perks" are just gravy to me. No regrets!

I don't agree. I think they are getting better all the time.

Sorry that you don't think so. I know other timeshares don't have any perks at all. Maybe looking at the glass as being half full instead of half empty would help.

We purchased in 1993 and got free tickets until December 31, 1999. Now THAT's a perk.....We were never interested in Timeshares, but once we saw "The Vacation Club" as OKW was originally named, and loved it, the free tickets sure clinched it for us!!!!!!!! No regrets!!!! I must say that the $100 off the price of an annual pass is a great perk!!!! Have bought them for years and now I can save $100.....How good is that

I haven't really seen any dissappearing "perks". Those little special additions have always been that...Special and additional to membership. We often use the dinning discounts on site. They didn't make or break our membership though. If folks are missing the Disney Store discount, I am not. First off, 10% doesn't amount to much, and the past couple of years the DS merchandise has not been anything I wanted to buy anyway other than DVDs.

For my money the $100 discount on AP is the best perk of all time! :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I though the reason we didn't get the discount on the Disney stores - is they are no longer owned by Disney.

can't get a discount if it is not disney,.

love the new discounts - I love Kona Cafe and having a discount makes it more enjoyable -now I just wish they would add breakfast.

We really enjoy the restaurants that give the discounts at the Dolphin, and go there often. We use whatever perks apply to our needs. We're getting APs this year, we're sort of on the borderline for number of days, but we want to be free to walk over to Epcot when we can.

I don't think WDW caters to the one time visitor. The price of 1-3 day tickets are out of sight in my opinion. We're inviting people to VWL who never have been to WDW, and I've given them "warning" about the cost of park tickets.

We always find "newbies" balk at the ticket price until AFTER they have done it! It's hard to see the value until you have experienced Disney.

Every little perk makes me feel good and gives me a sense of "being appreciated" by Disney!!

Lets look at the glass as "being half full...not half empty" !! :goodvibes

There are no perks included in my contract, and, the other 2 timeshares I own , RCI & II certainly give none at all!

I never expected "perks" with any timeshare, and I have been pleased with every perk DVC has given us. I recently found out about the annual pass discount, and I will be taking advantage of that one later this year.

Ya what you said :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: we love DVC but everything helps two big ones AP & PAP and with that you can get the DDE card ya ho !!!!!!!!!!

HMMMM, 2 days and the OP has not checked in. Was this thread a plant?

We used the UPH discount (now discontinued) and don't spend enough days to make an AP worthwhile. .... but I'm not complaining, the MYW passes with no discount are still cheaper than the UPHs with a discount. While it would be "nice" for DVC to throw us a bone on a non AP discount, I'm content paying less for the same trip than I did.
