My family is going to WDW in October and staying at BLT for 4 nights...As a DVC Owner..is there any special discounts I should be aware of that I can take full advantage of my membersihp with? What do I need to do to receive these discounts?

Thanks all!

Bring your DVC member blue card and read the Portable Perks booklet. That will tell you all the discounts you are entitled to.

If you will go often enough to use annual passes, there is a nice discount there.

www.dvcmember.com will list all the current discounts. You will want to bring your blue member card.

How do you get one of the Portable Perks booklets? I just became a new member, and I didn't receive that in any of my documents. Just all formal documentation.

everytime you check into a resort you will receive a portable perks "booklet" its really not a booklet anymore more like a pamphlet...in it has all of the current perks listed...enjoy your many trips to come!!!

Remember that perks are subject to change (and some things come and go fairly rapidly - like Cirque discounts - they will be available for a few months, then disappear for many more - we've yet to hit a trip where there was a Cirque discount).

Yes, and that's why checking the current Portable Perks given in your check in packet is the best source of the information.

For my money, the BEST and only perk I really care about is the $100 off the AP!:thumbsup2

And even there, the portable perks are pre-printed and sometimes have out of date information - as valet parkers know.

When we went to DL after becoming members, I didn't have a pamphlet of any info on what perks were available. So, I just asked every time I checked out if there was a DVC discount available - at all the eateries, shops, etc.

You can find discounts here too: http://allears.net/pl/discounts.htm

Allears doesn't contain a current listing of DVC perks.

The only place to get that (outside getting the booklet at check-in, which is not particularly helpful to those who like to do advance planning) is to go to the DVC member website. All current perks are listed there under Member Priveleges - Member Perks - Walt Disney World Resort.

Under the latter, current perks are listed by category (Annual Pass Savings, Shopping, Dining, Entertianment, Recreation , Tours and Miscellaneous).

I never said they were DVC discounts. I said "You can find discounts here too"

On the member website, I couldn't find anything about free internet access when staying on points. Is that still available?

One of the best perks is the free parking at the parks. That's worth a lot of money if you have a car and use it daily to get about.

That is not a DVC perk. That's a perk of staying at an onsite hotel. If you stay offsite, you do not get free parking as a DVC member.

Last year, on my first trip as a DVC member, I got in the habit of pulling out all the cards and asking the server/cashier which was the best (or only) deal -- the DVC card, the AP, the TIW card, even the Disney Visa. If there isn't a Portable Perks in your check-in packet, be sure to ask for one.

p.s.: Deb and Bill -- yes, Yellowstone is amazing, but not to get off topic here -- what does your footnote mean? "Yellowstone was amazing and is a lot more inviting than Disney right now. Could we be selling it all in the near future? Maybe."

We went to Yellowstone for Christmas and had the most amazing time. We're looking at retirement in the next few years and just might move back to Montana to be closer to Yellowstone. If we do that, we won't have much of a need for DVC points, so we would probably sell what we have left (we already sold two of our five contracts). We both would love to work for Xanterra at the national parks during the summertime or even work part time for the National Park Service (we already both work for the Federal Govt), especially if they make it easier for annuitants to come back to work part time.

If we do, we probably won't miss the DVC perks. ;)

Free DVD Rentals are available too. AT BCV you can get movies at the Beach Club Marketplace.
