just wondering?

i am not sure if i read that 95% of people don't plan their day in disneyland.
they just get a park map on the day and take it from there.

is this percentage too high?

xjx

I would guess about 75%. I'm amazed at how many people will go to Disney without a plan and then say they 'just didn't like it'. We have 'taught' several un planners how to really enjoy themselves and now..they plan!

Actually the days I go without a plan are usually my most enjoyable, because we just do what ever we feel like doing at that moment in time. I have enough planning in my life getting everything that is supposed to be done done, and getting kids where they are supposed to be etc.

I think there is going without a plan and then there is going without a clue. Two different things. Even if all you do is go left when the crowds go right and remember to get fast passes, then you are ahead of most of the rest of the crowd. And knowing about tigger tales is a huge advantage:)

What you mean your not supposed to stop in the middle of adventureland, or tomorowland with your group of 20 and ask "what are we doing?"

I agree. If you've been once or twice to DLR, you don't need a "plan" because you know the lay of the Land. 1st timers (like my Sister-in-law) went to WDW with no clue. They got there late each day, didn't bother with FPs, and stood in line forever. We've been there enough to know the drill, but we still plan our meals, TTMM and MMs. You pay so much to get there in the first place, why not maximize your money???:confused3

We don't ever really have a plan. We make PS, we collect fast passes, we know what day we're doing MM and we know we are always going to leave in the afternoon for about 3 hours to rest, but other than that we do what we feel like doing.

We have a toddler and I think anyone with very young children knows that planning with a toddler is only going to leave you disappointed and stressed.

Agreed. To clarify. People we used to go with didn't have a clue aobut what the options even were. They missed parades, Fantasmic, special eating choices. etc..because they didn't research enough to know they existed..it's the liitle things that make it so special. Some people don't even know about fast passes.
So..no..we are not commando planners and tourers, but we do realize if we really want to ride something we need to hustle there and not be all surprised and shocked when there is a huge line at Indy at noon. I guess the term is not so much 'plan' as be aware of how things work and what options there are.
One time when we went we discovered the Broadway cast of Beauty and the Beast was playing in LA. Naturally we saw it as a great chance to go, so invited our friends who went, loved it, and admitted that they never would have thought of it.
Also, back in the glorious days of early entry with a breakfast, they just figured, oh..you get breakfast and then do a ride. NO..you do rides and then do the breakfast. I will never forget when Indy opened riding the thing four times straight..just running through the que and hopping on over and over.
That kind of thing.
It is people who don't have a clue what Disney is about and then just wander into the park and don't even know what they are looking for that don't have a good time.
I could not stand to have my day regulated more than a couple ADRs.

I think we see it all the time when newbies come on and ask questions. Luckily for them, the Dis is here. How many people do you know don't even know there are forums out there? I know CMs on the phone who don't know as much as my fellow Dissers! I think when they talk about non planners, they are talking about those people who just walk up and buy a ticket and walk in. I know we have alot of Canadians, UK and Aussies here but do we see many other countries? And I know there are tons of foreigners who visit. And that doesn't count our fellow countrymen who just show up.

I have to admit that on our '06 trip, the most planning I put into it was making hotel reservations and buying our tickets online.....everything else I just kind of left to chance. I had always gone before as a single college student, so I could kind of just go and do what I wanted. Now I am a mother of three, and I came to appreciate how a little more planning would have helped us get more out of our time at the park.....
I won't make THAT mistake again! Thanks to all of you...:worship:

my first trip we had no plan. we just went and did what we did. I thought it was fine, but it wasn't really busy, and we were only there for a day.

Now we're local and we have AP's and we never really plan anything, but we strive to try 1 new thing each time we go.

When I was a kid we never planned anything. I mean we went every year, so we knew where everything was. But we didn't even plan the hotel part. It was kinda like, just pick one when we get there! LOL Amazing how things change!

I think a lot of people don't plan for the most part. You can usually spot them. LOL Although I have spoken to a lot of people in line that have planned well. There are a lot of us out there too that obsess over our trips. LOL

I think going without a plan is not necessary fatal to your vacation if you go during low season. I saw a lot of people without a plan (we even threw our plan out after half-way through the first day) in mid-September, because there were so few crowds, we didn't have to wait.

Now it can be said that many people "without a plan" show up at 1 pm on the fourth of July expecting to see all of Disneyland in half a day--but that probably falls into the "without a clue" category. :rotfl:

Whenever I go to Disneyland, unlike my trip to WDW, I don't feel I can plan out an itinerary because most things don't need to be scheduled. We don't do PS because the PS restaurants are bit too expensive at DL for my family (no nice DP like WDW). I do have general "game plan" like which way we'll go (clockwise or counterclockwise) and getting FP.

We always enjoy ourselves!:goodvibes

Totally. We had some friends go, during Spring break, without a plan. :rotfl2: They didn't like it and said it was crowded. Gee, really? :p Had they planned a bit or did even a little research before their trip, they would have seen less crowds and had a better time.

I don't go to even the grocery store without a plan; think I am going to go to Disney without one? :lmao:

LOL Rentayenta!! Too true!!

wing it. When we vacation at Disneyland it's usually our big vacation of that year so we spend quite a few days there. My kids are small and pretty timid so we spend most of our time in Toontown and fantasyland.

We go knowing that it will be crowded. If a ride line is too long for us, we go have ice cream, shop or something else.

I am leaving on Saturday for DL with my 5 year old. Our first trip together. I've been twice on daytrips but it was more to just come and look, not for all the rides.

And last weekend I realized I have lost my Unoffical Guide. I am freaking out because I haven't read about all the rides yet to figure out what we can do. We have 5 day passes and are staying across the street at the Fairfield. I've made reservations at Ariel's already, printed daily schedules, have an idea of which areas will be best for us.

How important is it to have this book, do I buy another one? I have a 25% off coupon for Barnes & Noble I could use instead of buying the Wicked CD (we are going to the musical on Tuesday!!!).

Thanks in Advance.

I know a lot about Disney, but I don't know what Tigger Tales is. Please advise!! :confused3 THANKS!!

it's funny, when I went to DLR about 7 years ago, I thought you had to PAY EXTRA for FP!!!:rotfl2: Boy, am I glad I researched and then found the DIS!!!:thumbsup2
