What on earth could cause this?

I wonder if the biscuits went through a somewhat drastic temperature change before you bought them and brought them home. I know in my grocery store, on occasion it has taken the stocking staff a while to get all of the refridgerated stuff out of the cartons and on the shelves. I've seen ice cream pints "sweating" and just knew they were melting and would refreeze to a gross consistency.

This. It happens. Also, if you stored them in the back corner or the door of your fridge, that could explain the temperature change.

those cans are scary and I love those biscuits. I wish they would make something less scary to open up. I don't like the POP sound nor do I like when it pops open. I like to do a drive by throw, throw it on the counter and see if it pops open on it's on.

I love doing the drive-by throw. I call them bread grenades. :upsidedow

Yes! It happened in the middle of the night. I literally thought an intruder was in my house! Nope, the darn biscuits!

Lol....I just had this happen a few days ago!! I wouldn't think of calling Pillsbury, I just laughed and threw them away. :confused3

I had it happen many years ago. When the can blew, it broke the shelf in my refrigerator door. Those things have a lot of pressure. In my case, I had forgotten the can and it was way past it's expiration date.

C. Ann, I agree with a previous poster. Somewhere during delivery, the cans were exposed to too much heat and the yeast became activated.

Well if you told us, of course tell the company or the store. Why tell us but not them?

I would have gone ahead and made the Monkey Bread right then and there too.

Now I want me some cinnamon rolls.

Maybe the biscuits were making a break for it.

I'm surprised that canned biscuits don't have to be in enclosed, glass refrigerated cases in supermarkets, since this happens so much. Can you imagine walking by the open refrigerated shelves as a bunch of canned biscuits explode? :duck:

Is that like killer tofu? (sorry...Doug reference )

The killer biscuits really might kill me! It took me like 15min to go see what was wrong! My heart was pounding. I guess the biscuits were doing their job!

:scared: Not. sure. I. want. to. learn. about. Killer. Tofu!!!

I can't remember if youtube links are allowed here, but they have Killer Tofu on there. It's a song from the old cartoon Doug. Sorry, it just popped into my head. My oldest daughter was a Doug fan.

This. If they didn't pop in the store then they probably stored them properly. Since they popped in your fridge, and it wasn't just one can but multiple cans, I would say the culprit is your fridge. I think your fridge is either getting too hot or too cold.

I've had it happen, no big, just bake the biscuits and show them who's boss.

Thanks all! Some very funny stories here - and I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one this has happened to..

The fridge is fine - I have a special thermometer I keep in there all the time so I can keep the temperature at the correct level - and of course check to see if it's still working probably every time we lose the power up here or have a day of brown-outs.. I know they (the brown-outs) can be brutal on fridges - my former neighbor had to replace hers 3 times in the 15 years or so they owned the place.. (Knock on wood, I've been lucky so far..)

I called the store and they said they would be more than happy to refund my money the next time I'm in town - even though I no longer have the receipt.. Wouldn't do much good to call Pillsbury because I don't have the info they need - the "exploding tubes" were already taken away in the trash..

At this point, I'm not too sure I want to purchase additional ones - on the outside chance that they might explode again - but the only recipe I have for Monkey Bread is made with the tubes of biscuits.. Any other biscuits, I can just make from scratch.. Or - maybe when I go to town to pick up my refund, I'll buy some biscuits then, dash back here, and make the Monkey Bread right away.. DD will be back on Friday night - and we have some very hot weather lined up for all of this week - so I think my best bet would be to run over there Friday morning (before it gets too hot), come directly back here (no stops along the way) and get to baking!!!

Strange, strange experience for me - considering it was my first.. LOL..:goodvibes
