What oil does Disney use in popcorn stands?

Hi! My husband LOVES popcorn, especially Disney popcorn. For Christmas, my Dad got him a popcorn maker (similar to the stands at Disney but much smaller). It uses oil to pop the popcorn. We tried vegetable oil and it wasn't right. Anyone know what oil Disney uses in their popcorn stands? Or what do you like to use, if you use oil to pop popcorn.
Thanks!

Ah - I was hoping I could answer this since DS actually worked at a popcorn stand in Epcot a couple of years ago. But he has no idea because it comes in bulk - and he couldn't understand why I would want to know. :lmao:

Our local movie theater has giant jugs behind the counter labeled "popcorn oil." I've always wondered what blend it was...

I just researched all this because one of DH's Christmas requests was for the stuff to make "movie theater" popcorn. You need the right oil and salt.

They oil is usually coconut oil (which is solid, not a liquid like you might think). I bought him a gallon of it from Amazon. The salt that is the most common is Flavacol. It was harder for me to get in time for Christmas for various reasons so I actually ended up getting him some Act II popcorn salt at Sam's club. The ingredients are similar. Beyond that getting the right popcorn that pops up like at commercial places is a plus--it is called mushroom popcorn. Also you can splurge and get the butter topping.

Check out these sites-- they sell all that you need:

Can't wait until we get home and DH can pop up a batch for us to try!

I love movie theater popcorn. My summer job does not let make popcorn because they claim trying to kill somebody by the amount popcorn salt put on the popcorn. I can't help. It be so good.:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

These are what you want to look for.

This website has several different types of supplies for your popping pleasure.

Just wanted to update that DH just used the Coconut oil and Popcorn to make a batch and it was amazing! popcorn:: :thumbsup2 We don't have a big popper, just a pan on the stovetop.

I am not sure if I have had WDW popcorn so I can't compare it, but it was much closer to movie theater style. No liquid butter so that may be needed.

i just got my very own popper for christmas and i use a friend's mom's recipe, its soooo addicting and delicious!

orville's white popping corn
olive oil (sometimes makes the popcorn greenish, but healthier (i was told...) and you can't normally taste a difference)
salt
garlic salt

yummmm

We have a theater size popcorn popper in our home theater and ONLY use Orville Reddenbocker white popcorn and butter flavored oil. We use the oil both in the popper and as a topper and yes it IS coconut oil just like all of the stuff in movie theaters.

Edited to add: No cholesterol !!!! That was a BIG deal for me !

I swear by this popcorn http://www.popcornpopper.com/popcorn-pouches.html
I bought the Whirley Pop Popcorn Popper to go along with it and it makes the best popcorn. To me it is as close as disney popcorn as I can get

We tried again with the veggie oil (haven't gotten the coconut oil yet) and while it didn't taste as good my DH, who has been reading all these posts, said don't worry, we'll have the real stuff in a week! YAY!

My sister and I have been going about once a month. Our mom loves their popcorn so much, as we do, that she always makes us bring home a couple of tubs for her. A few days ago when we went, I asked the girl at the popcorn maker what oil they used. She pulled off a laminated label that was Velcro'd to the equipment. I'm guessing enough people ask about the ingredients so they have it at the ready to show. The brand is Pop-n-Lite made by Lou Ana. It can be purchased from snappypopcorn.com. One gallon (smallest quantity they sell) is $16, however shipping was about $15. I just ordered it and plan to give it to my mom as a birthday gift. I can't wait to make a batch!

Welcome to the Dis. I'm curious how a first time poster managed to dig up a 4 year old thread. Who knew zombies liked popcorn?

I know that the popcorn brand has changed, can someone tell me what brand is used currently at Walt Disney World

I’m convinced it’s laced with crack rocks. It’s so damn addicting.
