Hello fellow Disers. :wave2:

I'm looking to go to DL for my anniv. this Dec. and I'm not wanting to stay on property. (too much money-I'm not willing to pay 250-315 and night for the cheapest Disney hotel) So I was wondering what hotels do you like off property and why?

I'm looking for a place in hopeful walking distance, nice, but not crazy in price. :)

Be ready for an onslaught of HoJo lovers. I myself like the Anaheim Sheraton. It is usually around $100. or so and is quite snazzy.

We like the Annabella, its on Katella so not quite as busy. Its about a 10 minute walk up Disney Drive and you get to walk through the amazing Grand Californian lobby to get to DL and DCA. We are staying in a room with a king sized bed with a seperate room with a day bed and it was around $105 a night.

And that would make two of us! (Or 4 of us, if you count ALL the Dobies!!!)

Loved HoJo's (we had a premium view room), large rooms, super comfy beds & we could watch the fireworks from the balcony.

Enjoyed the Carousel Inn & Suites, the rooms a bit on the small side, but very comfy beds, close to the pedestrian crossing.

Liked the Tropicana Inn, standard room size, found the beds a bit hard for my likings, close to the pedestrian crossing.

Desert Inn & Suites, huge rooms, great for big groups/families, bed terribly uncomfortable for me, very close to the pedestrian crossing.

We're booking the Residence Inn, great reviews on Trip Advisor & on the DIS, a little further walk, but rooms like nice & hear they have new mattresses.

It kinda depends on what you're looking for:
Free parking
Free internet
Inside/Outside Pool
Lots of space
Close enough to walk/or ok with using the Anaheim Resort Transit
Free breakfast
Etc.

If you narrow it down to a couple choices, come back on & ask for opinions on the DIS. Good luck!!

Basic,stock as a rock,,the Alpine Inn
Cool pool area,,Camelot
Good sized rooms,,Desert Inn

Well, nothing compares to staying onsite. :wizard: But that being said, I liked the Candy Cane Inn. It was relatively quiet, has attractive landscaping, comfortable beds, free breakfast, walking distance but also has it's own private shuttle to and from the parks. :woohoo:

If I were to pick walking distance in order of preference.

Park Vue Inn-super close, warm breakfast and light snack in the evening.
Candy Cane Inn- Well kept grounds, better than basic breakfast.
Annabella Hotel-Well kept grounds, beautiful large rooms
Ramada Maingate-many recent updates, breakfast, nice pool
Hojo with Ent Rate- Cheap with the ent rate, great pool

Thank you so much for ALL your responses!! I love getting DIS'ers reviews! :lovestruc

I'm really wanting a good comfy bed, not to soft, not to hard-Back issues

Won't be driving, I don't think. We haven't been to DL in 9 years when we did go to DL we drove in a day and back. We now go to WDW and we use Magic Express to get to the resorts. Is there such a beast for DL from the airport? :confused3

Free Wi-fi would be great, but willing to pay a small fee to use once to get us checked in for our flight back home.

Would love to have free breakfast if possible, if not no biggie. I always love to eat at the Main St. Bakery. I have nooo clue what places are a must eat in or around DL or Down Town Disney-but that's another conversation to be had on another thread. :goodvibes

Within fairly short walking distance if possible.

And that's about all I can think of, for now.

When you say...better than basic breakfast, what does that look like? :goodvibes I'm not much of a sweet eater any longer-losing major weight, healthy choices would be wonderful. What do most hotels serve?

A lot of the area hotels offer breakfasts. But they tend to be, cold cereal, a couple fruits, toast, muffins, unfresh pastries. So better has hot items.

BTW about Magic Express. Nothing like it for DLR. Though Grayline runs Disney themed buses that cost money and are only semi convinient. There is a thread that talks about airports and transportation to the resort area.
Lots of good stuff in here. If flights aren't set in stone already keep in mind that the airports can take a lot of time so it's worth it to fly to a closer one when arriving or leaving during rush hour. Also getting through the airport themselves is another thing to consider. LAX is huge, LGB medium and the others small.

Residence Inn Maingate has a pretty good free breakfast (IMO) toast, waffles, fruit, cereal, hot breakfast meats, yoghurt etc - options for everyone. It had free wifi too but it went a bit funny on us after a week or so - but they have two computers which have internet which are free to use!

It's a 10 minute walk (well it was for my family, though we're fast walkers) but we felt perfectly safe walking home from DLR at night. They do have the ART though.

If you click on the links in my sig you can see my reviews with pics for CCI and for Embassy. Further in the CCI thread, someone else posted pics of the breakfast at CCI. We loved both places but will be returning to CCI for a third time this summer because we love the closeness to the parks. Plus they give you a $10 off per night coupon to use on your next stay which has helped. :)

Hi Millie!
How exciting!!!!

I posted my review of Park Vue Inn (Easter weekend) on here and also on tripadvisor. I also have a website review too! Can you tell I was excited! Still am! Anyway...

http://hallmarkdisney.shutterfly.com/

My kids said they could care less about any other hotel - even inside the park - as they loved the Park Vue Inn

The beds were very very comfy and both my hubby & I are picky! Even the bunks..ahhhhh! Pillowtops!

The breakfast was more than enough to get us through the day at Disney (and we can be big eaters!)...hot items - eggs, biscuits & gravy, sausage, bacon, waffles &cereals, fresh fruits, donuts, bagels, toast etc. We'd return for the social hour which was a complete meal in our eyes. They had soups, salads (american, potato & fruit), chips and a main course nightly that changed. So not the healthiest foods but lots of options.

Free wifi - we had no problems using it.

Just the meals sold me! It is one of the closest hotels - across the street from the main entrance. It is noisy (thin walls and constant kiddos running around)...but I just wore earplugs and slept right through it :woohoo:

Have fun!!!

Becca

Wow! Lots to chew on and research. I'm strongly looking at Candy Cane Inn, get's great reviews, it's beautiful, and has a some what decent breakfast to offer, and reviews always say it's clean. :lovestruc
Not to mention I don't have to cross the street to get into the park. :thumbsup2

But as I said, I have a lot to research and you guys have been amazing help! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

DIS'ers rock!

Another vote for Park Vue Inn!:thumbsup2 We loved it! Very comfy beds and only a couple steps to the crosswalk and you're in Disneyland! My family wants to stay there again. Our room was very clean and we enjoyed the free breakfast and lite dinner.:goodvibes
