Don't know percentage. I suck at math. But basically I won't go if I have to spend over $3000 CAN per trip once a year. We are a family of 5. Obvious this doesn't include spending money either. I can't budget that. That is all we can afford and that is are budget.

ours is about 2% which would be 1 10 day trip at a value resort with transportation (by minivan) from colorado...

3% on years we also do dl for a week during a separate time

I don't know how much money we're going to spend in Orlando, but my rough guess is it will come to around 8 or 9 % of our jearly income.
We're going for 12 nights, and have to fly from the Netherlands, which isn't cheap!

Ill respond first.
I posted 10-13% for our upcoming trip.
Our last trip was in 2001 and our next trip will probably be in 3-4 years. We haven't been on a vacation of any kind in 5 years so this will be nice :)

Enjoy the poll!

I just want to say that you will love OKW!

I'm curious (not that I'd ever find out- just saying I'm curious) if a higher % of income is spent when doing cruise vacations rather than park vacations... or if those that take cruises simply still use about the same % of their income but their incomes are higher? Just something I wonder- of it the stats of this poll will be flawed since it includes both cruise vacations and park vacations.

In any case, I voted the average of our vacations because we don't take the same kind of vacation to be able to vote on just one. I can take one WDW trip per year at about 2% of our income or I can take several in a year that range 4-5% or I can take a cruise every 2yrs (but for us includes a family of 5, 2 staterooms, etc.) that is probably closer to 8%. So it's hard to say. So I voted in the 6% range. :)

I have to say that I agree with you totally. It's still hard to say that you are comparing apples to apples because your hotel costs can vary so drastically just depending on whether you stay at a value vs. a deluxe.
I think the poll itself is a pretty cool idea, but is going to be somewhat scewed (sp?) based on certain variables.
I would say that last trip we spent about 1.5%. :cool1: We went during August for 9 nights at a value (2 rooms) had free dining :thumbsup2, flew on AirTran ($59 direct flight/each way):woohoo: . I kept all of my receipts from free dining. We "spent" $70 more on food (based on receipts) than hotel & park tickets cost  . Part tickets were for 8 days w/ hopping & water parks & fun feature. I spent more on souveniers than any other individual item (i.e. just hotel bill, or just park tickets, or just air fare). I just love my disney pin collection & art work.
This year, trip will be cheaper because it will only be younger DD & myself. Older DD will be on special trip w/ church youth group & DH says he needs a Disney break. We will take different family vacation. :grouphug: Also, we will not have free dining because it won't be offered when we are going. I guess since air travel & park tickets will be cheaper, I can spend more on Disney souveniers! Yeah!!

How depressing!! I'm thinking it will be about 5% of our yearly income....that seems really high! Anyway, this time we are wanting to do ten nights at a value resort with DDP & water park/hopper tickets. Also flights for four from Ottawa cost a fair amount. But, it is worth it!!!!

Thanks for your response and interest in the poll!
One rationale for using percent of income is to see if people who earn 100K per year who can afford to stay deluxe and use 4% of their salary for a $4,000 vacation compare to those who earn $40,000 and stay off-site with their same 4% or $1,600.

Maybe I'll take what I learn from this poll and write a new one. I am open to suggestions, LOL! But because of privacy issues, I don't think I ask revealing questions that would actually give more insightful answers like:
- how much do you earn?
- how often to do you vacation at WDW
- how big is your party?
- where do you stay and for how long
- what tickets do you buy
- what discounts do you seek out
- how do you buy food, eat in room, table service, counter service, meal plan? Do you drink alcohol with your meals? How often do you snack
- what other recreation do you partake in? How much $?
- what purchases do you make specific for the trip? strollers? clothing? entertainment? souveniers? babysitting?

But I think to ask these questions would shy people away from answering and give a limited sample from which to make conclusions from. At least that what I think. Could I be wrong? I'll be happy to write up a survey and maybe do it privately where respondents PM me. Let me know if anyone is interested in participating or reading the results of such a survey.

[by the way, I have a master's in sociology and this sort of thing just runs in my blood, LOL!]
