What Not To Wear At Walt Disney World - Getting ready for the next one -Show on again

I loved the last two updates!

What is it with you two and the blue drinks? ;)

I'm so glad to hear you had a nice meal at Yak and Yeti. I've read some not so great reveiws of the food there, and am really glad to hear of a person who enjoyed it! Definitely puts it back on the radar for me.

I love the picture where you're scared of the dinosaur. You crack me up, my dear, and bring some much needed funny into my day. :thumbsup2

Sounds like you guys really had a blast!
I'm definitely stickin around till the end!
:dance3: :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Jellyrolls looks like it was a blast! :yay: DH and I always mean to stop there on our trips, but we haven't yet. :confused3 I'll have to try to make a point to make it part of our itinerary......it really does look fun!

Glad to hear your review of Yak & Yeti.....I may have to check it out! :thumbsup2

I don't like Yeungling, but I don't like beer in general! I had never even heard of it before I moved to PA. Did you like it?
I never got a taste of it but I'm not much of a beer drinker either! Your blue drinks kill me because my DS likes to drink or eat anything blue because it's his favorite color!

Your Dad's with girly backpack pictures are so funny!! :rotfl:

Didn't you just Love Yak and Yeti? I wanted to try Primeval Whirl, but it was down for refurb :( We did do EE though, and I suprisingly liked it. There was no Yeti jumping out though; he must be broken. :confused3

The monkeys (apes) are Siamangs (which is a gibbon). If you're there between about 9 and 10am, you can hear their morning conversations. They are LOUD. Some of the more brilliant guests around us that morning convinced themselves and others that Disney must have microphones planted up there. :sad2: Me, in my head: "No, actually they can be heard in the wild up to 2 miles away." Me to Tony: "Let's leave now before I have to hurt this guy."

I know everyone doesn't know everything about every animal. But if you don't know, keep your mouth shut! Was it Mark Twain or Abe Lincoln who said "'tis better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"?

Ok, stepping off the soapbox now and sheepishly handing you back your TR.

Hey everyone! First of all I'm sorry I've been MIA for the past week. I had a HUGE job that started on Sunday and it won't be done until Friday. Working 14-hour days doesn't leave any time for DISing. I have so many other TRs I have to catch up on too! I hope to get another installment up on mine by Sunday.

Oh I wish we had gotten there earlier to have heard more from the apes! That would have been neat. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only person who missed the (non-existant?) Yeti! I have to finish reading your TR, I can't wait for the weekend when I'll have time to catch up on everything!

I never got a taste of it but I'm not much of a beer drinker either! Your blue drinks kill me because my DS likes to drink or eat anything blue because it's his favorite color!

Beer grosses me out! Besides blue drinks are much more fun looking. :teeth:

Definitely check out Yak & Yeti if you had a chance, I thought everything there was sooo good. And Jellyrolls too!! I wish we had gotten a chance to go back.

Sounds like you guys really had a blast!
I'm definitely stickin around till the end!

Thanks! Hopefully I'll get to the end before 2009! :rotfl:

Yes the glacier water was blue too! But I don't think it was alcoholic. I think it was sprite and...something. Fruit juice? I can't remember...probably because mine was alcoholic :rolleyes1 And thank you for the sweet compliment! :teeth:

I don't know how it started but they play "Sweet Caroline" at the end of the 8th inning at all the home games. Its great fun. They put the words on the scoreboard and the crowd sings along. Its become one of the Red Sox theme songs now. Can you tell by my avatar that I'm a fan?

That's so fun! I think the Phillies have a song like that but I can't remember what it is  I have only ever been to one game. Speaking of baseball it is CRAZY here right now!! I'm talking rioting in the streets every night!

Whew! All caught up! Great updates! :cool1:

We loved Yak & Yeti too! It was our best meal this summer! Yum!

I really felt that way about Yak & Yeti too! I'm so glad to finally have a really yummy TS place in AK.

So how did Jakkie like Primeval Whirl? I took my mom on it last year and she freaked out screaming the whole time! :lmao:

She liked it but she definitely thought I made it sound like it was going to be a smoother ride than it was

Ok, I'm definitely going to have to try Yak & Yeti next time (whenever that might be). I opted not to try it last time because the menu doesn't really appeal to my family full of picky eaters, but I really want to check out the ambiance and definitely that mango-berry daiquiri!! Last year at WDW I discovered I like mango drinks and I just can't find good ones anywhere else. Looks like you and Jakkie continued to have a wonderful time and I can't wait to see & hear about more of your adventures!

For some reason I don't like eating mango fruit but I really like mango drinks! The daquiri was awesome. I hope you get a chance to try Yak & Yeti!!

That's really neat! I love the sound of steel drums. Where was that band located? I can't remember ever seeing them before.

They were just playing on the side of the pathway in front of the theater where Finding Nemo: The Musical is. Most people were just walking by. There's another band that I remember seeing when I was last at WDW in 2006 - I can't remember where they were located though:

I am really debating about a Yak & Yeti ADR but I am just not sure. The food does look good though. I am sure Daisy & Donald will forgive you. ;)

I think it's probably the best place to eat in AK! Of course I have never eaten at Flame Tree :scratchin And I haven't been to Tusker House since it became a buffet.

Nope. You didn't make him up. He's in there. It's just that he's IN the mountain, it's dark, and you scream by, well, under him really, at like a bazillion miles an hour. He's easy to miss. I was looking for his eerie red eyes and that's how I saw him.

I can't believe I've been terrified for the past 2 years of a yeti that's easy to miss  I really need to keep my eyes peeled for him next time.

Who knew there were enough princess-backpacked dads out there for an entire collection?!? :confused3

What did you think of the Yak Attack?

I wish I had gotten more pics of the princess dads! I kind of forgot about my collection by the third or fourth day. And the Yak Attack was DELICIOUS.

ooohh good luck with the huge job! Can't wait for another update when you are all finished at work!

No worries, take your time I will still be here reading when you get back. :goodvibes

ooohh good luck with the huge job! Can't wait for another update when you are all finished at work!

Thanks guys! I am so tired now. I keep sneaking off to my desk to sit (that's why I've been checking in here a few times today  ). At one point I noticed my head was all the way down on my desk and I jumped up before I fell asleep  I have to check up on both of your TRs too!

Hi there,
Just to say I'm off tomorrow! Will catch up when I get back....WDW here I come!!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
Di x

YAY! Oh my goodness, have a wonderful time! :mickeyjum

Finally I have a lazy Sunday to myself to sleep in, do laundry, go to the gym, and Dis! And I must begin, as required by local law, with a hearty “GO PHILLIES!”

Now back to your regularly scheduled trip report…..

Aaaaand when I left off, I think we were about to climb on Kali River Rapids, or rather into the FP line at Kali River Rapids. Which was long. And HOT. I had bought two little handheld fans to bring, which was a very clever idea. Except that I forgot that I am apparently an idiot.
IMG_5067.jpg

I have lost track of how many times I have injured myself (and others) with this thing. I would consistently bring it too close to my arms/neck/face and we’d hear the ZZZZZZT noise that meant my skin was suddenly being hammered by the fan blades. Understandable once or twice, but about ten seconds would go by and I’d do it again. And again. At once point I got it tangled in Jakkie’s hair.
And so then, finally, we were climbing onto KRR. I cleverly wrapped my purse up in a plastic bag (because those ‘waterproof’ bins in the middle are anything but) and figured I did not need a poncho because it was so very hot out and we probably wouldn’t get that wet anyway.
IMG_5066.jpg

Yup.
Dripping from head to toe, we wandered over to Camp Minnie Mickey. Jakkie somehow didn’t get that wet. She probably hid behind me somehow during the big splash. A CM at an ice cream cart that we passed pointed at me. “Hey, Kali River Rapids!” Yup.
We had an hour until the next Festival of the Lion King started, so we sunned ourselves on a bench outside the theater. We got great seats inside the theater (I was still soaked, by the way) in the giraffe section. It is hard to get good pictures in there but I attempted a couple.

IMG_5070.jpg

I love love love the guys on stilts. They are so fun to watch. The show also seemed longer than I remembered, with several reprises at the end.
We somehow made our way back to WL after this, where I took an incredibly awesome shower, washing off Kali Riverwater. I changed and we excitedly headed out for a night doing something I could do only with Jakkie, one of my lone female friends. Shopping. At DTD! Yay. I knew there was no way that I could get Jack to follow me around World of Disney for three hours, so Jakkie and I planned a night of it. But first, eating time!
IMG_5072.jpg

Here’s Jakkie at Rainforest Café, which I was excited about because I remember loving their blue crab dip last time I was there in summer ’06. I had gotten Jakkie all hyped up about said dip as well. Jakkie is the dip queen. She hosted her Halloween party on Friday night (funfunfun!) and made a beer & cheese dip, and a hot crab dip. And both were awesome.
In fact, let me interrupt this trip report to show you a picture from Halloween. Jakkie was a magician, so Tucker of course dressed up as a rabbit. Hee.
b6260d4a.jpg

Anyway, we were in Rainforest Café, enjoying our artichoke dip, and flatbread
IMG_5075.jpg

(They NO LONGER CARRY THE BLUE CRAB DIP, by the way. I was displeased.)
We were sitting at the bar and had a charming waiter/bartender, Jacob. I believe Jakkie had a beer, but it was gross and rainy out so I didn’t feel like having a drink. The weather was pretty bad this afternoon. We were anxiously awaiting news of some sort of tropical storm or hurricane that was threatening to hit Orlando….I believe it was Hurricane Hannah? My memory is a little fuzzy and I have blocked out the stormy unpleasantness from my mind
It was loud in there, so when I noticed my cell phone was ringing I chose to ignore it. But Jakkie looked at the screen and said “It’s your mom, go ahead and answer it.” I listened to Jakkie. This turned out to be a mistake.
I love, love love my mom with all my heart. And normally I love talking to her. But on this particular evening she was not calling to see how our trip was going, or tell a funny anecdote about my dad, or engage in any sort of happy conversation. No. My mother, who had apparently been glued to the weather channel for the past three days, was calling to CONVINCE ME TO END MY TRIP EARLY AND COME HOME.

Yup.

I know you are all gasping in horror right now. And that is when I did something I am not proud of, which was be incredibly rude to my sweet mummy. I pulled out my angry voice and snapped “NO. I am NOT LEAVING EARLY.” And I was so furious with her for putting all this worry in my head about the stupid hurricane, because I am a worrier. And now I was anxious that the hurricane was going to appear and sweep us away, perhaps at that very minute, and I had no interest in ending my life in Downtown Disney pinned under the debris of a giant gorilla animatronic from the Rainforest Café.
So after hanging up with my mom I told Jacob I had changed my mind about that drink. He brought me a rum punch and Jakkie and I mulled over the weather. She didn’t care much because she was leaving the next day anyhow, but I was frantic.
After sucking down the last of my punch, I decided I needed some reassurance. Jacob was nowhere to be seen so I climbed halfway over the bar and grabbed the other bartenders (nametag read JOE) by the collar.

“Joe, I need to ask you a question.” I said. “Is this hurricane that is coming going to kill us?”

Joe was friendly enough, but not at all reassuring. “Probably not,” he said cheerfully.

“I’m supposed to be here until Saturday. I am asking you if I should go back home before then.”

Joe was noncommittal. I am guessing that he was afraid to tell me “No no, silly tourist. You will be fine, stay in Orlando as long as you want!” and then have me come back to the Rainforest Café with a vengeance after my hotel had been flattened by Hannah and a tornado had swept Jakkie off into the ocean.

“You will probably be fine. I don’t think you have to go anywhere. I might leave myself, but not until tomorrow at the earliest.”

Eventually talking to Joe did calm me a little, and Jakkie and I turned out attention to more important matters: shopping.
I just noticed that I only took one more picture for the rest of the night, of this painting at the Art of Disney:
IMG_5076.jpg

I guess I was too busy emptying my wallet to take pictures. So I just now ran around my apartment taking pictures of anything I could find from this shopping extravaganza. I got a ton of holiday gifts and some things for myself. I will rely on what I just found around my apartment and my extremely long receipt from World of Disney to remember what we bought.
I know we started at the Christmas store, Jakkie’s favorite place ever. I purchased a bunch of mickey head ornaments for my family members. Those are all wrapped up in many layers of protective packaging that I don’t feel like breaking into, so you will have to use your imagination there. I used the ‘send to resort’ service at this store for the first time, which I was excited about. You’ll just have to wait and see how that worked out for me (oooh…cliffhanger!)
According to my receipts, I then went on to purchase the following at World of Disney from Neto, some nice college kid from England here on the international program:
-Mickey Mouse coffee & coffee scoop for my aunt

-Chocolate & candy for my boss/coworkers
-pens for stocking stuffers

-snacks for stocking stuffers

-Mickey Mouse dishwasher magnets (buried at the bottom of my gift drawer somewhere…)
-something called a “MK PC PRTFLIO”
-2008 WDW Bumper Sticker (currently in the driveway on my car)
-A whole mess of scrapbook stickers
-Fancy shoes for myself (don’t tell Stacy)
4266bad2.jpg

-Some cat toys that Mixi has already hidden
-A placemat for Mixi (please ignore the mess, she’s a bit of a pig)
17774bbe.jpg

-Hannah Montana mousepad (for my roommate Jeffy – it’s in his room now)
-Something called a “Mist TS MM Lbl”
And most importantly, $18 saved because I used my Disney Visa. Booyah.
We then wandered across the way to Basin – I had never been in there. And probably should never have gone in, because there went another $25. And I spent the whole week regretting I didn’t buy more (alas, never had the time to go back to DTD).
I LOVED Basin. There is a Lush store near my work, but everything is pricey so I treat myself to maybe two bath fizzies a year. Basin was like Lush if Lush was cheaper and had cooler stuff. It was awesome.
They had tons of scented soaps that had these incredible designs on them. Here are two that I got for my dad and aunt:
e62acff4.jpg

3531341f.jpg

I also got one with Cinderella castle in it, which I already gave to a friend. And I bought a few bath fizzies for myself, one of which had confetti in it. And a little bag of special soap samples for myself, which I squirreled away somewhere safe and now can’t find.
I love Basin. I am glad there is no Basin in Philadelphia, because I would be broke. But at least I would smell nice.
Very sleepy, we finally dragged outselves to the bus stop, where Jakkie presented me with a lovely gift:

Yay, Alice teacup! We eventually got back to our room where she started packing  and we got to bed by 11:30p.

Up next: A horrifying early morning attack that you will not want to miss.

 Up Next! Up when? Up now? Ahhhhh!

you are so much fun to go to WDW with,

thank you so much for sharing your trip!

:worship:

omgoodness, cliffhangers plus! You've made me very excited for DTD! i love the stuff from Basin! Excellent update and YAY! for Sundays off!

I've been hearing so many good things about Basin. We'll have to check it out thoroughly when we go back. The soap is a nice and practical souvenir for someone.

Tucker Bunny looks very cute in the ears!

I'm afraid I am sitting here laughing at your expense picturing you hanging up on your mom, ordering a drink, chugging it, and then grabbing a bartender by the collar!

And I'm laughing so hard because I totally related. Worry McWorrisome here. Party of one. I would have been beside myself.

Clearly you are writing this and as such were not flattened by the hurricane. But I'm sure that wasn't fun.

Looks like you got some nice goodies shopping. I like that painting from Pirates. That scene w/ the dog is my favorite!

And no, I won't tell Stacy about the shoes but you ARE posting this on the internet. :rolleyes1 They are really cute shoes though. :goodvibes

I have a question for you. What day was this? I don't remember it raining in the afternoon while I was there. Maybe I was napping? :lmao:

While we were down there I had this attitude towards the hurricane. If it strands us here, OH WELL I AM IN DISNEY! :lmao:

Basin was truly awesome. I forgot about my massage bar I have hidden away. I must go dig it out!

Loved the update. :) Won't tell Stacy about the shoes. :rolleyes1

I had your episode on our DVR and I watched it today. They were so darn mean about the bags! :lmao: You got the back though at World of Disney! DH and I were cracking up!

I'm so happy to see you updated today. I have been going crazy cleaning our house today to get ready for our upcoming trip and finally sat down to relax. It was so nice to read your update.

I have goto go to Basin on our trip. I am so excited to get Mickey soap. :lmao:

Can't wait to read the rest of your report. :goodvibes
