Since I see lots of threads on packing tips, favorite items to bring, what not to forget items, etc.; I would like to start a threaad for the WDW guests who just have returned and packed something (s) that they never used or were a waste of space/time/money. . .anyone?. . .

The first time we went, we packed beach towels for the pool. It's quite nice that they supply them for you.

My DD10 packed her thick, Pre-Algebra textbook & did not touch it once while there...what a heavy thing to pack...never again. She just did the work when we returned.

Great idea. I pack too many clothes. Since we usually throw a load in the laundry while we're out at the pool, next trip I'll pack less clothes. (Of course it didn't help that our last trip was in January and I actually had to bring coats and mittens, LOL). :p

snacks, breakfast stuff, peanut butter & jelly, the kitchen sink...

1st trip I read up on people bringing food down there because everyone said how expensive food at Disney was, and I bought into it. Never again... no one ate the snacks because we were too busy eating mickey ice cream, turkey legs, etc etc at the parks. No one wanted pb&j because we were too busy trying out all the new food items there. No one wanted to eat breakfast in the room because the danishes and muffins were so much better. All that food I had lugged to FL had to come right back to OH.

Another thing I would never take back down is a backpack. Too heavy, too big, too annoying at bag check. Nope... in our case less = more. Fanny pack, small messenger bag... that's it.

Not gonna bring down beach towels either, no siree no.

Although we take only carry on, I only actually needed 1 nightgown--we do laundry--& 2 blouses too many & 2 pr of slacks extra. Well, now I know which slacks worked best ;) & have bought 2 more pair just for our upcoming trip--

Too many Disney related toys, books and movies!! DS actually missed his puzzles, Thomas and non-Disney stuff - I think that he od'ed on Disney. So this time we're bringing a mixture, with an emphasis on non-Disney stuff so he can take a "break" from it all, lol!

Makeup. Never use it at WDW. We've done the overbuying food thing on every trip, too.

I see a lot of things other people swear by the we don't bring and have never missed - the biggest one being strollers - we just rent and prefer that. But since I'mpretty good on evaluating ideas for my own use (and have no problem with anyone else who believes a white noise machine and an over the door shoe holder are absolute musts for them on vacation), we've never packed them.

Disney DVDs!!

We thought it was a great idea to take down some of DS's favorite DVDs the last time we went. Well, all he wanted to do was go back to the room and watch them!! :earseek: :earseek:

NEVER AGAIN! We will rent them if needed, or he can watch the Disney Channel.

I used to always bring my own iron and blow dryer, but I leave them home now! Most rooms have them and if they don't, you can request them.

Last trip we never touched the long pants I packed, the bug spray, the aloe, the toys, any of the extra food, or the laundry detergent.

I agree about too much food. Take WAY less than you think you should

We took too many books. DD8 was SHOCKED :earseek: when I said so outloud. " But MOM!! You can never have too many books!!!"

Trust me. Three tote bags and a canvas briefcase of fun stuff to do in the car was too much. Even for a 4 week trip. :rotfl:

We just didn't read. And in our family that is a shocker!!

repeat after me: "I can never pack too many clothes". Do it three times a day with sincerity in the bathroom mirror. Feel free to change the word clothes to "shoes" as well.

Books. I never read on vacation. Why do I haul it along? I am a voracious reader at home. I think I need a break on vacations. I go through magazines tho.

Half our livly hood is in the back in of our truck. So it's toss it in there. And if we don't use it, we'll know where it's at.

Long ago I adopted a vacation motto. Put everything you plan on taking onto the bed. Then put back half the clothes (and other stuff) and add twice the money. It always works for us.

hairspray. It was so humid when we went in August I just put may hair back everyday. :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Most of the food, most of the clothes, most of the "Stay cool" items (we just found AC instead of misting ourselves or putting on our neck coolers!)

Wish I'd brought: my flipflops, more $$$, Monistat (ladies, you know what I'm talking about!)

:wave2:

DO NOT OPEN liquid medications (like childrens tylenol suspension) prior to the trip and pack them in a ziploc if you plan to fly. My son had a cold when we left last year so, I packed childrens Sutifed or similar. Luckily, I put it in a ziploc because, it leaked out everywhere. I think it was the pressure changes. I also had this happen when we traveled to spain last year with a pump style moisturizer.

Someone posted not to bring a hairdryer. I'd have to check with the hotel to make sure they could supply one. No one is coming between me and a hairdryer. I like to look good when I go out for dinner in the evening and this requires a hair dryer and a quality pomade.

I agree about the toys, my kids didn't play with them at all. Maybe one or two on the plane.
