We are going to Disney December 14-18 and our kids grandparents are coming for just one day and one night. We want them to be wowed so they'll want to keep coming back. Should we take them to Fantasmic, MVMCP or Illuminations?

How mobile are the grandparents? That should be a major part of your consideration. If they like/are able to walk awhile & would enjoy the atmosphere (magic) of MK, go for MVMCP. (And that would be my choice.) If dinner & a show is more their speed, Illuminations may be the way to go.
Good luck!

Illuminations and Fantasmic are the best I can think of

If they have a sweet tooth, AND you want them to come back, I highly recommend
Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert Party

Depends. Are they big Disney movie fans? Do they have mobility issues and would prefer to sit for the show If so, then Fantasmic.

Are they big Walt Disney fans in general? If so, maybe the Wishes fireworks and the projection show.

If they don't have problems standing for a time, I'd probably lean towards Illuminations.

Doesnt look like Wishes is a possibility for them due to one night and MVMCP going on. Other suggestions above are good though.

My Grammie prefers Fantasmic! where she can sit with us and watch/relax after a full day of walking around. Even if they are very mobile and able to navigate MVMCP it can be nice to have a break at the end of the day with the gkids and some cotton candy :)

Depends on how well they can stand for long periods. If they are OK standing I say MVMCP. I'm personally not a huge fan of MVMCP, but if they've never been I think they will be "wow'd" by it - the fireworks are great, snow on mainstreet, festive atmosphere. If they can only stand for limited times, then I would say Fantasmic. While nice, I don't think Illuminations has the same "wow" factor of the other shows. Try to make time to go to Osborne lights if you can. I find it the biggest "wow" that time of the year.

Fantasmic with Osborne Lights afterwards.
OR
A dinner at Rose & Crown Pub with Illuminations viewing. Even if you don't get a patio table you can watch from their viewing area - just let your waitress know you want to do that. Make sure to make the ADR for an hour before Illuminations starts. These times go fast so you need to do it as soon as your ADR window becomes available.

If possible, I would schedule 2pm or so Candlelight Processional lunch with the show at 5:30. I would then stay for Illuminations that night. This plan assumes they would enjoy traditional Christmas carols. If one of them uses a wheel chair or scooter, you might be able to sit in the handicap seating area for Illuminations.

I would say Illuminations, IMO this is the best firework show at WDW and during the time of year you go they will have the special Holiday tag at the end of the show which is INCREDIBLE!!! Not to mention the park is more spread out and doesn't feel as crowded as MK (packed like sardines on Main Street) which will be a huge plus for elderly folks. It is also nice to be able to enjoy a nice dinner at a good sit down restaurant in WC before the show, Epcot is the place!

AGREE! book a restaurant lakeside and watch ILLUMINATIONS. The Holiday bonus fireworks at the end of it kinda blew our minds a little!

If cost is a concern, MVMCP is the less expensive one day ticket (assuming you are only doing the party). Plus, the parade and shows are fantastic. Also, grandparents love to see the joy in their grandkids. You can't get more joyful than Magic Kingdom.

On it's own, my guess is that grandparents would like the Candlelight Processional better than the night time spectaculars (especially if they are Christian). Then, Illuminations would be a plus!
