What MUST I know when planning a Christmas trip to WDW?

They just started listing them. To go from 16-23 they are 400 a piece to go from 14-22 they are at 244 a piece.

Well then, can't blame you there!! A question for those of you who fly regularly...if I wait a while on my plane tickets will I not be able to get them based on the holidays? This will be our first time flying - any suggestions would be great and so so helpful!

Subbing also for obvious reasons.

/e looks down

We are hoping to go Nov. 29th to Dec. 9th 2007. Will it be really crowded at this time? Will all the decorations and gingerbread houses be up at this time?

I can't wait, this will be our 2nd trip to WDW with our children.

Just a note on New Year's eve...

If there are small children involved, I would probably not do it, unless it is in one of the largest parks, such as Epcot or MK... The crowd level is very high... I was on MGM for NYE once, and there literally was no space to walk between the people...

I've had friends go to MK on NYE and they say it is crowded; but due to the size of the park, you can walk around..

Going Dec 16 thru the 23. Can't wait to hear more on this subject. Particularly about the when special event tickets go on sale such as MVMCP.

This was not true NYE 2005 - the crowds were massive. We decided to leave around 9:00 because DD7 was too tired to last until midnight. It took approximately 1 hour to get from our last ride (Peter Pan) to the park exit.

In response to OP's questions, you can still see the Christmas parade during the day if you miss MVMCP. In 2005, the parade ran twice a day (12:30 and 3:30) during the week between Christmas and New Year's. And Santa is still in the parade, even after Christmas.

Some things I would recommend as "not to be missed": Christmas Parade and Holiday Wishes (complete with snow on Main Street) at MK, Osborne Lights at MGM, Lights of Winter, Candlelight Processional and holiday Storytellers at Epcot, resort decorations (especially Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian and Boardwalk). I've heard that the Beach Club is also beautifully decorated but we didn't make it there to see for ourselves.

Good luck with your planning - you will have a wonderful time!

My DH, DD (11) and I will be spending Christmas with the mouse from Dec 19th thru Dec 30 w/ the 19th and 30th being strictly traveling days no parks which leaves us 10 full days to park hop w/ our dining plan. By arriving on the 19th we are still in value season for all but one nights stay and we are checking airline prices everyone day to book the cheapest flights ( that southwest flight for 38 one way is my dream fare but was only good till the 9th of June ) I have all our ADRs picked and nothing booked for the morning of June 22 so I'm praying that this trip will be so filled with pixie dust that my DD remembers it FOREVER
Now I only have 300 or so days to wait and I'm on planning book # 4 :woohoo:

You sound just like me...we are doing WDW this Christmas with dh's family so I'm furiously planning away..of course I have to get with them too but I'm already decided on a few ADR's no matter what they say...hee-hee. We will be there Dec 23rd through Jan 3rd - I'm a tad bit nervous of the crowds but I think it will be so great to be there at the Holidays!

Subscribing to this, we are planning on Dec 13 - 20th, our first trip during the Holidays.

We were at WDW from Dec 22 - 29 2005. A few of my ideas, tips, etc:

1) See the Santas/Holiday stories at the counties in EPCOT. They are timed such that walking from one to the next was almost impossible but get a schedule and make a plan - it can be done. Also country bears and Hoop De Doo have special holiday shows.

2) See the Christmas Parade in each park and get a few pictures of the characters in their holiday best. We found Camp Minnie/Mickey during a FOTLK show to be less crowded than say the Mickey HAt at MGM.

3) Both Wishes and Illuminations are different during the holidays. Also see the Osborne Ligths at MGM (we went during the first showing of Fantasmic it was a lot less crowded).

4) We spent time just touring the resorts and taking pictures. We especially enjoyed the Grand Flo, Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge, Boardwalk. We didn't make it to AKL.

5) We did the Candlelight Processional Dinner Package on Christmas Day (eating a LeCellier). I booked/paid the day they went on sale in August - pay attention to when it goes on sale. It was a teriffic way to end a teriffic day - EPCOT on Christmas was a lot of fun - it was an EE morning and we rode Soaring, Test Track, and Mission Space before 9:30.

6) Make at least 1 ADR each day - it was very crowed from Dec 25 on. We saw many people turned away from restaurants. On Dec 28th it was almost impossible to walk in FantasyLand about noon. We did the majority of riding and park touring before the 25th and then did a tour of resorts, character pictures, "best of" after that.

7) I used Tourguide Mike and followed some of his suggestions but not others - It was our vacation after all. I believe that I more than got my money's worth out of it but you must be willing to invest time to read the info on the site, etc.

8) Understand you can't do it all - be realistic - take time to enjoy the holiday atmosphere - Big Thunder Mountain will be there next time.

One of the most memorable (and cheapest!) things we did on our first trip to WDW was to ride the monorail to Epcot and back on one of our "days off" from the parks. We asked to sit in front with the conductor and were lucky enough to get to do so. All the Christmas decorations were up in Epcot and they were beautiful from up in the sky. We made the round trip on the monorail, so we didn't have to use a day on our tickets.

Just subscribing. Hoping for a Christmas (or near Christmas) trip this year.

Keep 'em comin'!

Are the 7:30 fireworks in Epcot the same as the midnight ones on NYE. My two won't be able to stay awake until midnight??

Subscribing too! Fingers crossed for a mid December trip to WDW.

CP with 3 boys, ages 11,9,6??? Good idea or bad?
Thanks!

Hi! We're going to WDW Dec. 17th - 28th this year, and we have a question for those of you who were there during Christmas week. When do they start doing the 'Holiday Wishes' fireworks nightly at MK? Do they also do the perimeter firworks at the end of the show, or is that only done during MVMCP? Thanks!

-Michelle

We are also going in December from the 10th to the 15th. I'm glad to hear that the XMas decorations at the Boardwalk are nice because we are staying there. Keep all the suggestions coming!

I will be there from Dec 1-5 and can't wait! We are only visiting AK and MK and I realize we will be missing a lot of other wonderful things but we really want to be able to do verything in those two parks and take our sweet time!

I've been to WDW plenty of times between Christmas and New Year's. You can't overestimate the size of the crowds. During the middle of the day at the parks, the crowds are ridiculous. There's little reason to be at the parks between 11 AM and 4-5 PM or so. The lines for everything are enormous. It's much too aggrivating to be enjoyable.

I've found the best strategy on days you're going into the park is to divide your day into quarters. Sleep for the first quarter, wake up early and get to the park 40 minutes before official opening. Disney does often open the park earlier than they say they will. Leave the park after a few hours, no later than 11, and sleep. Go back in the evenings and go on what you missed during the morning. If you do it this way, you should be able to see what you want with as little hassle as possible.

As others have said, if you want to eat anywhere that requires a priority seating, make the priority seating as soon as possible. Don't expect to walk up to the park and get a meal at any of the sit down restaurants that evening. Even if you're not interested in eating at a table service restaurant, I'd recommend it over counter service. The lines for food are longer than the lines for many attractions and it will take you just as long to find an empty table.

On New Year's Eve, don't expect to get on mnay attractions. Everything has ridiculously long lines, except for El Rio Del Tiempo. (quick digression: a couple of years ago it was pouring on New Year's Eve. There was still a big crowd at Epcot waiting for the first Illuminations show, however. We headed into Mexico to avoid the rain and kill some time. Everyone else had the same idea. The entry portion with the art exhibits was filled wall to wall with people. It took 15 minutes just to get into the shops area, which wasn't any less crowded. El Rio Del Tiempo? No line. We got our own boat.) I've had the best time blowing off the morning and showing up at Epcot late in the afternoon and just wandering around World Showcase. It's also a good place to go if you have teenagers, since they have about five DJ booths set up around the park.

New Year's Day is a great day to go to the parks if you don't want to stay out late on New Year's Eve. In my experience, Epcot has been fairly empty New Year's morning. You should be able to easily make your way around the big attractions in Future World before World Showcase opens and then have World Showcase to pretty much to yourself until the afternoon.

See this would normally be my plan too..but from what I"ve read the park that week can close due to reaching capacity by 11 am or so...so if we take the chance of an afternoon break don't we have to worry about being able to get back in that night?
