A lot of the rides do not have a movie theme, Star Tours is obviously based on 'Star Wars' though, Honey I Shrunk The Audience is based on 'Honey I Shrunk The Kids'.

Philharmagic and The Great Movie Ride each showcase several films as part of the ride/show.

Splash Mountain = Song of the South

.

Not sure if it was a movie but I know Tom Sawyer's Island is based on Huck Finn. Also The Magic of Disney Animation is based on all the years of Disney Animation so it would feature lots of movies/cartoons. Carousel Of Progress is a ride Walt thought up for the 196something Worlds Fair. The MK Railroad is based on Walts love of trains. Rock-n-Rollercoaster is based on Aerosmith (not a movie) The Enchanted Tiki Room while the original I don't think matches a movie but now that its "under new management" it would match Aladdin since Zazu and the other bird are in there now (and you have to listen to that annoying Gilbert Godfried ~ even though I enjoyed it the last time I went) Mickey and Minnies house would match any Mickey and Minnie movie/cartoon as would Donalds boat and Goofy's Barnstormer. As far as the other rides I don't really think they are matched with a movie but you never know just like POTC the movie was based on the ride they may end up doing that again with another ride since POTC was so popular.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - Winnie the Pooh
Actually The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is based on Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day

It's Tough to be a Bug - It's Tough to be a Bug
It's Tough to be a Bug is based on A Bug's Life

Jungle Cruise was inspired by the 1951 movie The African Queen starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn.

I would say the Great Movie Ride is based on all the movie scenes you see while on it (Alien, Wizard of Oz, etc.)

Not every ride has a movie theme. Some rides were created for different reasons. I think that It's a Small World was created for a World's Fair.

We purchased at MGM in June '06, Walt Disney Imagineering. It shows how different attraction were created and might give you some insight. Also we love reading Disney trivia that will also include information about attractions and rides. Last month on the History Channel was a two hour show about Disneyland and WDW. Had a ton of great info on that too.

Maybe your local library or book store would have some Disney info books. They could answer a lot of your questions. While it is certainly fun when a movie ties in to a ride. I think it is even more fun when there is a story involved in the creation. :yay:

Not all of the rides were based on existing movies. Some have had movies come out based on the rides.

Splash Mountain - Song of the South
Country Bear Jamboree - Country Bears (based on the ride/show)

Star Tours - Star Wars

Dinosaur - Dinosaur

Not all of the rides were based on disney movies or just movies in general. They could have been based on other things like:

Outer Space....Space Mountain

Everyride has a history behind it but sometimes it's not that obvious.

Rockin Roller Coaster... Aerosmith Band

It's almost complete!

Our Keys to the Kingdom tour guide Rae said that Jungle Cruise was a tribute both to the old True Life Adventure segments that were shown on the World of Disney TV show and Walt's trip to Africa. She said he wanted guests to have a taste of the Safari experience. There also used to be a ride at Disneyland called first Mission to the Moon, and later Mission to Mars. That space theme still shows in Space Mountain and Astro Orbiters. You can see parallels in Philharmagic to the original Fantasia as well. There was a Haley Mills movie released "Moonspinners" with a subplot about Pirates right about the time the Pirates ride came to be.
