Hey all, I'm in the pre-packing stage for our trip in August and am starting to gather the things we need to pack. I was wondering what type of OTC medicines you guys bring to the World. It never fails some one always gets sick and I would like to be prepared. I thought if everyone posted the medicines they bring, then there would be less of a chance of forgeting one that would be necessary. Thanks :thumbsup2

Advil is a must for me. I am also planning on bringing some Zantac or Prilosec as well. Cold or allergy medicines are a great idea. Not sure if you are flying or not, but I always seem to catch a cold after flying.

I always pack Aleve for me! Helps with headaches and all the other aches from walking around so much!!!

For the kids - I pack children's tylenol, some type of children's cough & cold syrup, bandaids (which I carry around some in my bag) eye drops (especially if they spend a lot of time in the pool!), and blistex (or something for dry lips). Of course, sun screen!

That's about all I can think of right now. Its about time for me to start my packing too! I just leave the overnight bag open and throw in anything I can think of as I go along - then I sort through it all a few days before we actually leave!

Have a great trip!!!

I have a small first-aid kit that includes ibuprofen, children's tylenol chewables, benadryl, bug sheets and itch stick, ice pack, antibiotic cream, bandages, 3" ace, pepto bismal chewables, tums, mini sew kit, mini eyeglass repair kit, blistex, disposable thermometers. This all fits into a small plastic container that I keep under the bathroom sink and pack for all trips.

One of my favorite sayings: Better not get hurt or sick during the summer or holidays cuz the ER ain't on the visit list:rotfl2: (Where we live it can take a full day/night to get seen at the ER so it best be life-threatening, lol)

For me: I carry Tylenol on me, have Advil at the hotel. I also bring any prescriptions, allergy med, and Benedryl (in case of a bite or food reaction-I recently was on a trip and had an allergic reaction to something I ate which was a first).

For the kids: Tylenol, Motrin, Benedryl, cold med, prescriptions, Benedryl bite stick, diaper cream, and first aid stuff (bandaid, Neosporin, burn cream, etc).

Ive learned the hard way to just pack it all. I usually dont use any of it, but Murphys Law-if you dont have it, you will need it! On a recent boat trip I cut back a lot of the items so I wouldnt have to carry so much. My poor husband had to make a few trips to the drugstore when I had my allergic reation to food, our son had a coughing bought in the middle of the night, and our daughter got a nasty diaper rash.

I keep a few pill items like tylenol, pepcid/pepto bismol, allergy/cold meds in an empty aspirin bottle. I also bring rash creme. If I run out of the items I brought, I know I can always purchase more at the hotel gift shop.

Thaks for the ideas! I can see that I have some more buying to do :rotfl2: I never even thought of benadryl. I did get some pepto and rolaids though because last time we went, we all got tummy troubles  . My DD1 got so sick she threw up in Mickey's house and all over her costume. She was very upset.

Has any one tried that Head On stuff for headaches? I was wondering if it actually works because I get terrible migraine type headaches and would like instant relief while I wait for the Motrin to kick in.

I always bring: Aleve, benedryl, pseudophed, Robitussin, neosporin, Tylenol, son's inhaler (even though he NEVER uses it), baby wipes (so many germs on all of the railings), imodium, tums, and anything else I can think of. It is worth not having to worry about where to find the stuff when you need it. If you bring it you won't use it but if you don't you can guarantee that you'll need it.

I always have Aleve and ibuprofen with me. Band aids, neosporin, itch cream, immodium, chewable motrin, allergy meds, decongestant...throat lozenges...ummm...an ice pack and an ace bandage just in case!!! Pretty much something to cover anything that could possibly happen.

I told both kids that even if they get sick we are going to disney. If I have to WHEEL them through the parks with IV's attached to them, we are NOT missing an already paid for trip! Period!;) I also make them pledge each evening before bed..."On my I honor I will NOT get sick for Disney and if I do I will forever more be known as "The Kid who got sick for Disney"..." :rotfl2: :rotfl2: They find this very funny...of course I'm not kidding really...so laugh it up munchkins! Don't mess with Mama and her Disney trips!!!:cool2: ;)

I usually bring Advil, Immodium, Rolaids, Neosporin, Simply Sleep (I always have trouble adjusting to sleeping in a new place and it helps me get some sleep the first night or so) Excedrine Migraine, non-drowsy Dramamine (esp for help on Mission Space- but after coming really close to passing out this past time I've crossed the "spinny" side off my list)

I also go for Murphy's Law, so I take a little bit of different meds that can cure just about anything. Nothing will ruin my Disney vacation!

IMHO, I would rather bring my meds than buy it there and it may be ridiculously expensive. Last year I was pregnant and at a conference at the Comtemporary and I got sick. Since I was pregnant I was limited to meds that I could take. So at 3am with fever I got in a taxi with my roommate to a Walgreens to get preggie-safe meds for me. So an $80 cab ride later and $20 worth of meds, I crawled into bed. But coulda smacked myself that I did not pack the same stuff that was in my medicine cabinet at home.

We bring EVERYTHING! I keep all the kids' meds in a clear plastic travel bag in our linen closet and grab it all for the trip. It includes tylenol, kids pepto, immodium, ear drops for pain, swimmer's ear drops, inhaler, thermometer, aloe, solarcaine, triaminic cough strips, robitussin, airborne, afterbite stick, antibiotic cream, flonase and ambesol and benedryl. So far, I have use not one thing on vacation....but I'm not taking any chances!!!;)
Oh, and then I add any prescriptions anyone is currently taking!Whew!

Immodium, tums, advil, claratin, flonase, allergy relief eye drops, my inhalor, vicks patches, aloe vera, bacatracin ointment, and band-aids. Someone always gets sick when we are on vacation.:sad2:

The only time I ever traveled without one was for a 2 day (one night) trip to podunk NY for a funeral. As luck would have it, my son woke up in the middle of the night with a RAGING fever...it had to have been 102-103 at least. He was burning up! I had no thermometer, no children's tylenol....and couldn't go out and buy any because there were no 24 hour grocery or drug stores. I literally had to strip him naked and wipe him down with a wet cloth to cool him. NEVER AGAIN!!!

Childrens fever/pain medicine
Advil for the adults
benedryl
immodium
antacid of some sort

Thats about it for us I think. :goodvibes

I take all the usual items mentioned above, but wanted to mention that once my DDIL got very sick @MGM and I took her to the first aid station. (stomach virus) A nurse there gave her otc medicine so that she wouldn't have to wait until she got back to her resort. I wouldn't depend on it, but if you were in a park and needed something simple you may be able to get it at the first aid station. They were very kind and helpful.

Just a note - one trip I was in need of Immodium and the shop at the Poly didn't carry it. That's a must-have for me now.

I noticed that one person mentioned airborne and I'd add that I bring that along too. In fact, all of us take this the day before traveling and the day we leave. I bring it along in case any cold-like symptoms appear while on the trip.

In addition to regular band-aids, I also bring liquid bandaids. They're not exactly inexpensive, but they are definitely worthwhile. They are great for areas that can be hard to heal, like scraped knees, banged up toes, elbows. We recently went on a trip and my nephew got a very nasty blood blister on his toe from banging it directly into a metal door. It would have been virtually impossible to keep a regular bandaid on because of the area of the wound and the fact that he was constantly in the water. The liquid bandaid was a blessing!

Finally, I make sure to pack up an anti-fungal foot cream. My son has broken out w/ athlete's foot a few times and the cracking between toes (sorry to be gross) can really be bothersome. Who needs that when you have miles to walk each day?!

I have a suggestion for this.. Gold Bond makes anit-fungal swabs. They look like q-tips and come in small carry case (the size of a deck of cards) They work great too!

I always make sure I pack ANY prescription meds that I/family might need...even if I haven't taken in a long time...like meds for reflux, etc. I also take Tylenol PM since hubby has a hard time sleeping in a different place. Also, I have the fortune (I think!) of being a nurse practitioner, so I have *access* to a lot of medications at work. I usually take a few antibiotics just in case, as well as eye drops for "pink eye"! But, one thing I will not leave without is Phenergan! It is prescription, but your doctor would probably write you a prescription for 5-6 suppositories to take with you. Having a DD, 11, with pretty severe reflux and a tendency to get a lot of stomach viruses, I will not head for DW without it!
