We really need a new mattress---springs are almost poking through! I am having a terrible time deciding what I should get though. I have a lot of back problems and am now even starting to wake up with an aching lower back to start my day. Years ago when we got our present mattress we were told to get "firm". Now I'm finding that the mattresses that are more supple and support me feel SO much better. I actually really like the Memory Foam after trying it. But my husband thinks a Sleep Number bed would be good. But there is also the latex, and then just a regular coil mattress with a pillow top. Any thing you like about your own mattress? I'm also thinking about the cleaning aspects, plus I'm real funny about chemicals so I like the thought of a natural substance versus treated components inside. So what do you like? Thanks for any input!

Sterns and Foster, best mattress money can buy, in my opinion.

We have a simmons beautyrest that I just adore. It's a regular mattress with a pillow top, but the pillow top has memory foam. It's kind of the best of both worlds. The support of a tradtional spring mattress, but the comfort of the memory foam. It wasn't cheap (cheaper than a sleep number though), but we just love it.

I thought the foam ones would be great so I went to a friends who had one...crashed there for the night...I have bad joints and a bad back. You SINK into the mattress...getting up was HORRIBLE for me.

I have a sealy super firm mattress that I adore.

ETA I bought a non-built in pillow top to put on mine which works SO much better than the built in one. Mom has a top of the line simmons with built in pillow top, has had it for a year, she is not pooh sized (shes only like 120lbs) and there is ALREADY a dent in it...she is now looking for another mattress.

I have a Bodipedic memory foam with a pillow top and it is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I have a broken disc in my back, where a third of the disc is actually missing. This has caused severe sciatic pain down my hip and leg. I used to wake up every couple of hours in pain in my joints, but since we got the Bodipedic, I sleep through the night and am pain-free in the morning. There are times that I wake up in the exact same position that I fell asleep in which is unheard of for me. I used to toss and turn all night. I love it love it love it!!

Love my Sleep Number Bed!! I've had it for about 7 years. It's excellent!!!

This is what we have also. We got it in 2004 and dh and I LOVE it!

We have a Select Comfort Sleep Number bed and have never liked it. A few years ago we bought a 1 1/2 inch memory foam topper and it felt so great that we then bought a 4 inch memory foam topper. The memory foam is absolutely heavenly! Our bed is now incredibly comfortable (we have both toppers for a toal of 5 1/2 inches of memory foam. ).

I have a pillow top and I swear I would live in my bed if I could. :rotfl: However, I'm thinking of getting a Sleep Number at some point (because dbf and I have different ideas of how firm a mattress should be :rolleyes1 ) and I heard great things about them.

We have a Sping Aire Eurotop. Paid a lot for it and for the first 6 months I was in heaven! My back pain was gone and I slept like a baby. Two years later and DH and I are both in pain. Mattress can't be flipped, only rotated. It has huge sinkholes/body impressions from where we sleep and a big mountain in between us. You can't see the sinkholes when the bed is empty, but they are there when you lay on the bed (I am a small person and DH is not overweight, so it's not like we are just too heavy). We each sleep in a "valley" and can't roll next to each other without feeling like we are sleeping on a big wad of foam in between. I've called the company but no one returns my calls. It's supposed to have a 10 year warranty, but from what I've read on the web, not many have had luck with the warranty since there are so many loopholes regarding "normal wear and impressions." We are out over $1200.00 and now need to buy another mattress set.

I'm glad I saw this thread. I'm interested in what works for people.

:thumbsup2 sleep # bed....my # is 35...and sometimes 55....but 35 is my favorite...

I recommended a memory foam b/c that's what my parents have and it's oh so comfy...seeing as how you don't want a firm bed.

For DH and myself, we have a Sterns & Foster and it is the greatest! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 It is the best thing we've ever slept on, nice and firm! When we go spend the night at DH's mom's we can barely sleep b/c even though the mattress at her house supposedly is "firm" it sure feels soft and mushy to us...

If you want a nice, firm, comfy mattress, S&F all the way...speaking of which, DH is snoring away and I'd better get my butt to bed too! lol

good luck!

I heard that the foam mattresses start to smell after a few years.

I have an extra deep pillow top coil mattress - very comfy!

In 2004 I had a horrid matress with springs sticking out. I said to my dh one day, that if we somehow had a little extra money the first thing I would do was go get a new bed. The next week I received a fedx from Kraft Foods. I had won $10,000 in a contest. The first thing I did with that money was go to the mattress store and spend $2000 on a Stearns & Foster Pillowtop bed. I love this bed.

I tried the memory foam, too. I wasn't crazy about the tempurpedic. The mattress store where we went had a better quality memory foam (I forget the name - it may have been Europa or something like that). That one I loved, but it would have been several hundred dollars more and it was more than I wanted to spend.

The next thing that I did with my winnings was to upgrade to WL from CBR for an already planned WDW vacation. I have to say that I spent my winnings very well. We had a great trip.

One of the things that I like about our Stearns & Foster is that it has pillowtop on both sides, so it can be flipped. Most of the pillowtops only have one side and the problems that the above poster mentioned can occur. Just something to keep in mind if you opt for a pillowtop.

We have a Temperpedic and love it!!! Be sure to try all the different types of Temperpedics, each feels a little different. I sleep so much better since we got it.:thumbsup2

anyone else have opinions tonight???
