What makes you all weepy and sentimental around the holidays?

My sister called me last Friday just sobbing. She had the day off work and while she was wrapping presents, she found the Little House on the Prairie Christmas specials on tv.

She told me (still sobbing), "Laura sold her pony to buy Ma a stove and I thought of you." I was a bit puzzled and said, "umm....you mean the time I sold my pony to buy Mom a stove? You know how Mom is--we lived in the suburbs and she wouldn't let me have a pony--PARTICULARLY if she needed a stove more!" :rotfl2:

Sis calmed down and told me, "I just remember how much you loved the books and the tv show when you were little and it always makes me think of you when I see the show." She's 10 years older than me and was always more of an extra (more sympathetic) Mom--in fact, SHE would have bought me a pony over a stove for herself. :rotfl:

I know what she means--I always cry at Christmas Eve on Sesame Street because I remember dd watching it when she was little and how much she loved it. I love dd as a teenager but I miss the little girl she used to be and I think my sister feels the same way about me.

What makes you weepy at the holidays?

I just got out of the hospital Dec. 23 after 5 days and was very grateful to be home. On Christmas Eve, my best friend came by to bring over a tray of chicken parm on her way over to the annual party at our other best friend's house that I was NOT going to be able to make.

My friend has 7 children (6 girls, 1 boy). The girls were all dressed in their Christmas dresses. The youngest is 4 and the oldest is a junior in HS. She asked me if I was up for a few Christmas carols.

Well, they started out with Silent Night and I was mess from the word go. I couldn't stop crying through three verses. It was so beautiful. I'm sure they all thought I had lost my mind. I know I wouldn't have cried if they sung Frosty or Rudolph, but those religious ones get me every time. I can never hear O Holy Night without tearing up.

The song "I'll be home for Christmas" makes me cry. I'm 45 years old. My Dad passed away 23 years ago and I still miss him. This song absolutely breaks my heart.

I got an ornament this year that DS made with an imprint of his hand - it's very cute, and it comes with a little poem about remembering how little his hand was this Christmas every year as I decorate the tree. Well, I cry everytime I read the poem, and I know I'm gonna cry every year when I put that ornament on the tree!

Yeah, and Silent Night get me all teared up too!
