We're planning our second trip to DL after falling head over heels for it. In our opinion, its oh so much nicer than WDW's Magic Kingdom. :cloud9: We're traveling with our 3 kids ages 11 and up.

My question is, those that go to DL do the "regular" things, Space Mountain, Pirates, Splash, Fantasmic, fireworks, etc. Where is the place, ride, bench, restaurant, etc. that makes DL so extra special to you? We want to find that activity, ride, nook or cranny no matter how big or small that will put the topping on our trip. Come on...lets hear all your opinions!

There are a couple magical places for me:

Having lunch with Billy and the Hillbillies. Make sure you see the gold team which performs Sat-Mon. They are the best (IMO)!

The gallery above PoTC. There is a gorgeous little courtyard up there where you can sit and have a quiet rest (and even snack). Sometimes they even open up the balcony so you can sit and watch people in NOS.

Peter Pan is always special for us. That is the first ride we ride on.
My son and I also like to hang out in California Adventure by the waterfall thing when you first walk in. We all also like to hang out in the Amphitheatre and just watch California Screamin and the Sun Wheel. My husband and I have a glass of wine or a beer or a margarita in hand while we sit in the Amphitheatre.
At Disneyland we like to hang out at New Orleans Square by the train stop and just watch the mob when Fantasmic is done.

Having a character meal is always really special for us. Especially when there are good characters.

The Christmas decorations in Dec are really special too because they are only up for a short period of time and they are so beautiful.

At night, after park closing I love to sit in the hub, facing the castle and just look at it until they kick me out!

I love to see the light on in the firestation in tribute to Walt.

I love to eat Mickey pancakes at the Riverbelle Terrace overlooking the Rivers of America. What a nice way to start a morning. I also read Walt enjoyed having breakfast here so he could admire that part of the park. I also love the Plaza Inn since Walt's wife Lilian decorated it and he was especially proud of it. And the fried chicken is yummy!

I love the Big Thunder Trail. We always start in Fantasyland (with Peter Pan being the first ride). Then we take the Big Thunder Trail over to Frontierland or New Orleans Square. Its always cool and quiet back there in the mornings and you can hear the train sounds of BTMRR.

I love the teacups. My first visit to DL in 1977 I rode those first with my brother and sister. My next visit in 2002, that was the first ride we rode with my two kids. It was funny since they had both picked that as their first ride without me telling them that as a little girl that was the first I wanted to ride too.

At DCA I really enjoy Animations. I love to sit on one of the comfy sofas and watch and listen to the movie clips.

I could go on and on, but I already have so I'll stop!

I love riding the Matterhorn with my little guy wrapped up tight in my arms, he loves it but always says to hold him tight.
Indiana Jones with my oldest because I tricked him into riding it and he loved it...........if you could see the ride from out side he would have never went!
Splash Mountian with my husband getting splashed , he hates to get wet, for get about GRR at CA!
And I LOVE it all! The peace we have when we are there, the boys don't fight and we are never rushing , it is time just for us!

oh do tell more about this gallery?

The gallery is just that, an art gallery. It has tons of memorabilia and historical disneyland pieces. One of the coolest things in there right now is the bone throne from Pirates 2. The gallery has limited hours and is only open Fri-Sun and opens at noon and closes 1 hour prior to park closing. I hear they are revamping some of the exhibits right now as well.

It's not just for adults, my kids loved it too. Take the stairs to your right as you are facing PoTC. :thumbsup2

so many little things
the snow white wishing well to the right of the castle
the piano player on main street
the wicked queen in the window of the snow white ride
disneyland at night.
the cinema on main street
watching the canoes at hungry bear.
tom sawyers island
bengal barbecue
pineapple juice and the tiki room

DH and I met at DL in 1967. Our special places are the carousel where we first saw each other, Small World Ride where we first talked to each other and Tiki Room where I fell in love with him! Oh, the bridge in front of the Castle where we had our first kiss is pretty special too. We always stop there for a quick smooch. We were married 3 weeks and 6 days after we met. Will be celebrating 40 Magical years this September (when we met) and October (when we married) this year.

Indy's que line
Fantasmic!
Trying to beat a score on Buzz (having to re-ride until you do)
At night with all of the lights on and everything looks beautiful (not that it doesn't during the day)
The feeling of walking through the entire line on the first ride of the day.

that is So Sweet!

-Kicking back with a dole whip float while sitting on Main St. and listening to the old tunes being played.
-Watching Billy Hill & the Hillbillies with my honey and riding Buzz.
-Taking pics around the park in the early morning when the crowds are low.
-Sitting in the cool air conditioned room of Off the Page and watching clips of Disney films.
-Grooving to the Waveriders in DCA

My favorite place in all of the Disney parks is Snow White's Wishing Well. It is so peaceful and I always remember the first time DH took me there on my first trip to DL. He didn't tell me anything about it, just led me there and watched my face as the magic began.

I love strolling through the back streets of New Orleans Square early in the morning when you can hear the voices and music.

The Animation lobby is one of my favorite places to sit and just absorb the magic of Disney animation and music.

I love sneaking through the little pathway that takes you from the Castle over to Frontierland by Rancho del Zocalo. I always toss a coin in that little fountain.

The peace of riding my pirate ship over London in Peter Pan.

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride!!!!!!!!

It's a Small World always makes me smile. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE seeing the clock go off!

I love the "secret" pathways between adventureland and frontierland and frontierland and fantasyland. It is so peaceful there.

Riding Buzz Lightyear over and over to beat DH's score.

Eating at the Pizza Port next to Space Mtn.

finding things I've never found before (I always do...The Sleeping beauty statue behind the castle for instance...I just found it last trip!)

Browsing shops in Adventureland (one of my favorite lands)

I love Condor FLats in DCA and how the ground looks like an airstrip/runway!

I also love the Monsters Inc ride and always smell for the food in the restaurant and the stinky socks smell in the locker room. I found all the mirrors in the door room that make it look so huge too :cool1:

I love the flower fountain in DTD too, a great place to sit and people watch as long as kids aren't playing there too.

My spot is the Snow White's wishing well & fountains... Growing up our parents would take us to DL and each trip we would stand in front of the fountains and take our picture. Now that I am a mom, I am carrying on the tradition with my boys.... We have gone every December since my oldest DS was 2, so each christmas I frame one for my mom and "Santa" leaves it under the tree for her... :goodvibes

I like that idea!!

We do the same with our brick at WDW. Its amazing to see how the kids have grown over the years.

For me, it's sitting at my favorite table at the Golden Horseshoe watching the Billys Gold team (who perform Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday, btw. It's the Blue team on Sundays and Mondays).

I stand corrected. I had thought that Kirk Wall was only in the Gold Team, but he's in the Blue Team, too. I don't care about the other Billies, as long as Kirk is there, I'm a happy camper!

Yep--Kirk is in both teams and works at DL 5 days a week. He's also a fabulous Elvis impersonator and does a show at a club in Fullerton on Wednesday nights.
