What Kitchen Stuff to Pack from Home?

I was in a 2BR at BWV for our first trip "home" in August. We had no dishwasher detergent and when I asked a housekeeper in the hall for some she said it wasn't included. maybe I should have called instead. We bought a small package at grocery and put them in owners locker.

Is this an item that should be replenished?

Yes, it's included, as is a small bottle of liquid dish soap. The Dishwasher soap comes in small packets, and we usually only use half a packet per load.

Plus if you need more of either, you can just request it. It's not charged to your account, like shampoo, shower gel, etc.

Whenever we go on vacation to any place with a kitchen, I make a roll of stuff I don't like to be without. My chef knife, a paring knife, my tongs, my microplane grater. I lay out a nice thick dish towel and lay about an inch over my knife blade. I roll the knife up about one fold. I add my other knife ( with handles in opposite directions), and roll it over another fold. I add each tool in succession until the towel is done. I have a Velcro strap I wrap tight around the rolled up kitchen tools. The towel protects the blades and the carrier.

I always carry an instant read thermometer. I never cut into steaks.... I always use a thermometer.

I also carry spices and such in bottles designed for backpacking. REI sells an assortment for not actin of money. I don't like reusing bottles for spices..... They can pick up strange flavors. I also carry a small bottle with good olive oil:)

I bring a lot of items already mentioned and a few additional--coffee and filters, teabags, salt and pepper, cooking spray, extra dishwasher packs, sharp knives, zip lock baggies, crystal light drink mix, sometimes a pitcher if we're not flying, and sometimes some glad ware type storage containers. The last few years I've thought about the keurig, but decided that's crazy.

Among the many great suggestions here, I always bring pump hand soaps for the kitchen and bathroom sinks, and anti-bacterial wipes.

Yes to the handsoap. I do that too! Not sure if my kids would actually know what to do with a bar of soap!

I tend to plan out what we are likely to want to eat and then pack accordingly. We have our car so that gives us more leeway in how elaborate we get :)

We do this too (no sense in bringing a blender if you're not going to make margaritas!). ;)

In general, though, I like to have my own kitchen knives (I generally bring my favorite one), my own dishtowels, pump hand soap for the bathrooms and my own (Bounty) paper towels (it's silly, but I hate the scratchy ones!).

Oh! And we didn't have wine glasses at our studio-- so I might add some dollar store wine glasses (if flying, twice a many as needed, since they'll probably break!). I seem to remember, though, that there were champagne flutes at the BC 2 bedroom villas... so it might vary.

Those are all things that I'll probably put in our owner's locker, if we get one.

HTH!

ETA: Oh! And if I can, I try to pre-prep all food. (So if I'm making a farmer's breakfast I might bring the peppers and onions pre-chopped and in a ziploc baggie.) This takes organization (and perhaps a cooler for the drive/flight) but is SUCH A HELP during the vacation.

Coffee (Maxwell House filter packs) and splenda. Ziploc baggies. Water bottles. Sometimes (like when we drive) a box of cereal (or Fun Pack) and other non-fridge breakfast items and snacks and beer and wine. I bring a medicine kit that has cold meds, pain meds, tums, benadryl, pink eye drops (my kids used to get pink eye a lot...those drops are probably expired by now, I should toss them out), cough drops, thermometer, bandaids, bacitracin, zinc ointment, portable cork screw and small sewing kit. I also bring Purex 2 in 1 laundry sheets in a ziploc bag. I don't bring any kitchen appliances, though we have been flying since Dec 2011. We plan to go back to driving and then I might bring my waffle iron and Tassimo (coffee maker). We only do breakfasts in the villa (NEVER lunch or dinner)...and DH is getting away from wanting to do breakfasts in the villa anymore (and we may opt for studios in the future). I also bring clorox wipes and hand sanitizer.

What size/type of coffee filters will we need for our BWV stay next week?

I love this thread, great info for a DVC newbie :)
