Ok, my husband is really into wine and is always trying to get me to try it. I have tried numerous white and reds and have not found anything that I like. I really like wine coolers, but I know they are actually malt beverages and not wine. However, I would like to try a wine that could come close to that flavor. I have tried Arbor Mist and Boone's Farm in college and liked those, but I am looking for something a little more upscale in taste now that I am an adult! Any suggestions?

My hubby is the same way. He likes the Chateau St. Michelle Riesling. It's a sweet white wine. It's too sweet for me but he enjoys it.

Boones Farm! I had forgotten about that wine. Also Annie Green Springs!

Champaign is a wine. Try that.

Rosa Regale by Banfi.
I had it at the Food and Wine Festival @ Disney and I love it.
Next time you are there, try it...I believe they sell it year round at a booth outside of Italy @ EPCOT.

I drink dry reds for the most part which is probably the exact opposite of what you will like if you like wine coolers. I would suggest looking for a Riesling that is on the sweet side. I can't remember the technical name of them but there are some sweet red and rose wines from the Andalusia region of Spain.

The best thing to do is go to a wine store in your area and explain to the sommelier what kind of wine you are looking for. Many stores will have occasional or even weekly wine tastings which might be a good thing to go and try.

Lastly, go to a local wine bar and get some flights. Flights are small servings of a grouping of wine. It will give you the chance to try a lot of wines and grape varieties without having to buy bottles or even glasses. Write down the wines you like. The grape variety and region is as if not more important then the vinyard. Once you have a list you can get those wines or just show the ones you like to a sommelier and they will make recommendations based on what you like.

If you like wine coolers, you would probably like a sweeter wine.

Try one of these:
Gewurztraminer - This is DW's favorite, especially Fetzer.
Riesling - there are some dry Rieslings, but since sweet is more common, the dry ones are usually labeled as dry.
Moscato
White Zinfandel

Lambrusco.......even though it's not a "real" wine......

I do not like wine, it goes back to the days when I would raid the huge gallon jug or the box my parents kept
DH is a big wine drinker and so are alot of our friends, I felt like I was missing something. Dh got me a bottle of Riesling and I was hooked. I found one I like more than the others so we always have a few bottles on hand.

I don't like most wines (I even find White Zinfandel's to be too 'bitter') but prefer to drink wine when I do drink as I don't get hangovers (:lmao:ok, I know that sounds like I'm getting drunk often but I'm such a lightweight I get a buzz off the first glass and the rest is history :rolleyes1). My favorite wine I've found so far is a Virginia Peach white wine. It was much sweeter than most wines I've tasted and I actually really liked it.

mmmmm this is one of my favorites!! This exact brand. I also really like Mondavi's Private Selection Riesling, very good. OP both of these bottles are well under $10. I also like White Zin a lot. I've always got a couple bottles of White Zin around, Barefoot is a really good brand as is Beringer. Sutter Home was a bit watery so I avoid that one. The Barefoot and Beringer are about $5 a bottle.

DH isn't a big wine drinker but LOVES riesling. His favorite is a German riesling called Relax. White zinfandel might also be an option.

It's hard to just start drinking wine if you're not already accustomed to it.

DH & I developed a taste and affection for wine by starting to pair wines with certain foods. Scope out a good local wine shop and make friends with the staff. Seriously, wine affectionados love to help newbies! Don't be shy about your likes, dislikes and budget if you're in a store or a restaurant. If you're in a wine shop, ask what would go with whatever you're cooking that night. I brought my entire menu for Christmas dinner (including ingredients) to my wine shop and let the owner suggest pairings for each course. Each one was outstanding!

I'd also suggest some rieslings. When you're looking at wines, the lower the alcohol content, the sweeter it will be. There are some rieslings out right now which are quite dry (in the 12 - 13.5 % alcohol range).

Germany is good for sweet wines. But who knows? These may be too syrupy for you.

I got turned on to wine by drinking whites from the pacific northwest and New Zealand. Now I'm into French burgundy and chardonnay. Hubby likes malbecs and syrahs.

But it's all about enjoying wines with different foods for us! Maybe a restaurant close to you offers a cheese plate as an appetizer. This is a great way to try different wines. And cheese and wine is heaven

Good luck to you :)

I find people that don't like wine enjoy "Relax".
We always have some on hand.

I'm a wine fan (although, not remotely an expert) and I always suggest German Rieslings to anyone who doesn't like wine but wants to learn to. I think Richter Rieslings (ask at the wine store) are good. Sweet, but not syrupy.

Really? I wake up with horrendous headaches after drinking too much wine.

I stick with just white wines and I've never gotten a hangover (and I get hangovers way too easily :headache:). I get hangovers from red wine, beer, and all mixed drinks.

the only "wine" I drink is sparkling wine and it has to be sweet. I like Martini & Rossi Asti Spumante ($10 - $12 bottle) and the cheap Andre brand (it's like $5 a bottle, haha). My DH is into wine and likes the Riesling semi sweet variety.

Try a Muscat. Have it with dessert. All my friends who were not wine drinkers (I was raised to it) loved this immediately.
