What kind of tripod?

I just got a Nikon D60 and I'm looking forward to my first (yea!! :woohoo: ) trip to Disney World since I was a teenager. I'm really wanting to take some photos of the fireworks and night shots. The tripod I'm using now is my dad's old clunky one from a hundred years ago, not good for traveling at all. What kind of tripod would you suggest that is good for traveling and would fit nicely in a bag - or is this just wishful thinking?

Thanks!
Sharon

There was another thread on here that discussed the Gorillapod SLR Zoom (I think that's the name). It has bendy legs so you can sit it on top of stuff, but also wrap the legs around something like a light post to get stability if there is nothing else to use nearby. I think when I looked at it, it measured 13 inches or so long. If you want something that is small, light and you can travel easy with that is probably a good one to look into. If you want something more like a real tripod and less like a travel/portable one to sit on top of something...I'm SURE others will be making referrals sooner rather than later.

As for me, I also just purchased the D60 and since I don't want to be lugging around a more traditional tripod for our first trip to WDW with the new camera, I may get the Gorillapod just because it's lightweight, portable and can fold up right into my purse.

Good luck!

Tripods come in Light, Cheap, and Sturdy, you can pick 2 of the 3 and the other will fall where it may.

I personally use a slik 714cf with a monfrotto 488 head on it.
