What kind of tires to get ....

for my 2009 Honda Odyssey?? I live in Ohio, so I need a tire with good traction as well as low road noise and comfort. Of course, I don't want them to be too expensive.

There are so many different tires to choose from. What tires have you bought for your Odyssey and why?

I had an older Odyssey (99) and the last set of tires I put on it were Cooper CS4. I sold it 60k miles later, and they still looked like new. I live in upstate NY, so I can vouch for their snow-worthiness. They were fairly quiet, and very comfortable. The CS4s are rated for 80k, and most vehicles can pull off that mileage with them no problem. (Not my new car of course, nothing lasts over 25k on this 08 CRV)

I would suggest going online to multibrand dealers such as www.tirerack.com or www.discounttiredirect.com. They will have an interactive tire selector. You put in the vehicle information, as well as the type of driving you do and expected weather conditions and they will then recommend several brands and models in a wide range of prices that will fit your vehicle. And you don't have to buy from them.

I recently bought new tires for my 2008 Ford Edge and one of the indications I used was I never drive in snow (Yay, Florida) and I read the specifications of the tires I wanted.

I also recommend www.tirerack.com . We have ordered from them and had them send the tires to our car mechanic. It worked very well.

if you're looking for a specific brand, we usually buy kelly springfields. they're made by goodyear (my dad told me this, he worked for goodyear for 30 years), but are about 1/2 the price of a comparable goodyear tire. they are GREAT tires.

I always buy the "original" tires for my vehicles. Which are normally goodyear. But goodyear can be astronomical in price. I have heard great things about Cooper tires and they normally have some great rebates and sales, especially if you have a Pep Boys near you!

If you find a better deal online, bring the ad to your regular mechanic and ask if he can match the price. I like buying tires from my regular mechanic (which just happens to be Goodyear) because he rotates the tires for free when I get an oil change. I just purchased four 75,000 mile "Dunlop Signatures". Look for rebates too.

If you live close to a walmart that has an auto repair section, you can order tires on line (via walmart.com) and have them sent to the store for free. Then they can install them for you at the normal price. This gives you a much better selection to choose from.

Our Odyssey was getting such bad traction in the snow (we're in Ohio, too!) that we ended up buying snow tires. We recently bought wheels, too, so that my husband can put the snow tires on in the winter/off in the spring. They are noisy, but much, much better in the snow than our "all season" tires.

We put Cooper tires on our Ody and they have held up very well....unlike the Michelins that came on it and wore out before 30,000 miles .

I don't have an Odyssey but we just put new tires on my car. I would say to talk with someone and find out your options. The tires that are recommended for my car are performance tires and cost about $250 each. I got about 16,000 miles out of them. I really wanted Yokohama's ($125/tire) but they were sold out and back-ordered, no telling when they would be in. It was like this on every place/site we looked. I ended up with another set of Michelin's, but they are a firmer tire. The performance tires were soft, one of the reasons that we didn't get a lot of mileage out of them. We did not have the option to wait on the back-ordered tires, we were expecting a lot of snow and actually got them on in the middle of it.

I would talk to someone and see what your options are. They performance tires are standard on my vehicle, the ones we put on are not OEM but they are recognized as a replacement option.

Again, thank you for the comments. We are leaning toward the Cooper CS4 or the Goodyear Comfort Tred. Coopers are cheaper than Goodyear.
