What kind of school "rules" did *you have when you were in school?

Shorts were never allowed, nor was swearing, smoking, note passing or skipping class.

If there was a fight, even if you were the victim you got suspended, I never got that one. Once a friend of mine got jumped and beaten pretty severly in school. He got suspended along with his assailant.

I went to a really strict public high school in Fresno, CA. One rule for the boys, hair could not be longer than the middle of a collared shirt. Three warnings from the office and the asst. principal would cut it. Seems unbelievable that they could actually cut a students hair, but it was done quite often. This was 15 years ago, now they are probably strapped with lawsuits!

I graduated in 1981. No pants could be worn by girls until I was in 3rd grade. No jeans until I was in jr. high.
If you were in HS from 1977-81 you probably know what "PDA" means--public display of affection--a big NO NO!

HOLY MOLEY!!! The worst thing *we* had to deal with was that stupid redlight in the lunchroom! If it was red and you were talking, you'd get sent to the principal's office. I was sent there once because some boy was singing Popeye the Sailor Man, and when he got to the part about eating worms, I sprayed food all over the table.

I graduated in 96, and we just couldn't have flip flops, see through tops or cell phones/beepers in class.

I went to a catholic High School, Shirts were to be adaptable to a tie (needed Collar) and no blue jeans. Girls had to wear skirts I believe, no length restrictions. Get this Smoking was allowed on School Grounds and in the bathrooms. Drinking beer in the parking lot and being intoxicated in the classroom was overlooked. This was in the early 70's. I remember being quite buzzed at least half of my Senior Year

In 2nd grade, the rule was to always say was because if you say wuz, you learned just how a ruler feels smacked on your hand, and you were forced to say "Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear, fuzzy wuzzy had no hair, Fuzzy Wuzzy wasn't really fuzzy, was he?" The catch was at the end, if you said wuz instead of wuz, you got the ruler and had to say the poem all over again. I always said was.:teeth:

Wow! My cousins all graduated from Fresno's schools. I don't remember the name of it. I remember it was a campus like building. They graduated from late 70's to mid 80's.

In Junior High School, jeans of any kind were NOT allowed. If you wore them you got sent home. That was, until the day we held a protest! Yes, our class organized a "jeans day". Tons of us wore our jeans to school. How could the teachers send ALL of us home. That one protest changed some of the dress regulations. Clean jeans, no holes or rips, were then allowed. We even had a picture of our protest put into our High School yearbook.

Now think about what the kids wear to school. :earseek:

I was in elementary school in the late 60's. Guess I came from a more liberal area. We didn't have to wear skirts and shorts were okay. We weren't allowed to pass notes, wear bare midrift shirts, wear shirts that were too see-through. I'm pretty sure there were some rules about length of shorts and skirts and I know when we got older we had to wear bras. Flip flops and jeans were acceptable. So were hats, but not in class. Middle school and high school allowed us to go out to lunch and I enjoyed the opportunity.

My kids are in middle school and high school now. They can't wear hats at all (gangs). They aren't allowed to wear sunglasses (that one makes me angry). Jeans, shorts and pants can't be too droopy. Kids were wearing pants that rode down so low before this rule. Pajama pants are acceptable. No t-shirts that promote smoking or drinking. No short shirts (although I'm not so sure they enforce that one). Not sure about length of shorts and skirts. My daughter has never had anyone complain about what she wears, but she's pretty conservative. The girls must wear bras and tank tops must have straps as wide as three fingers. They can't carry a backpack to class. It has to be locked in a locker for the day. DD's middle school makes them stay in at lunch, but DS's high school allows them to go out. 3 tardy's and you get after school detention.

I remember it being the norm for girls to wear dresses to school, but not a rule. I graduated high school in 82 in IN.

Private (Baptist) high school for 2 years required: girls in skirts or dresses to the knee, boys in shirt w/ tie, boys hair above the collar and ears (yes they would send you home til it was cut). For PE, the girls were allowed to wear jeans, but they couldn't have any patches on them.

Public high school for 2 year, no shorts unless they were to the knee (no airconditioning either!). No limitation on skirt lengths or shirt types that I recall. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a rule saying no profanity though.

Uniform skirts had to be past your fingertips when you were standing with your arms at your sides.

I went to Parachocial school when I was little and didn't know any better, and had no problems. I didn't know any better. One of my brothers got slapped in the face by a nun, so hard it left a ring mark on his face. At the end of the year mom put us all in public school. Then tried to put us back in private when I was High school age. Trust me it did not work

I was 13 and deeply PO'ed that I had to leave my friends, They had white lines painted on the floor about a foor from the wall. When you changed classes you had to walk single file on the white lines to your next class. I would walk out and walk right in the middle of the hallway. They would freak!

When ever you asked a question or were asked a question, or a teacher entered the room. You had to stand to the left of your desk. Until you were told to sit. I asked why and was told it was a sign of respect. I said then why don't you stand when you address us? Again they were not happy.

AAAAAAAAAhhh and nail polish! A teacher told me I looked like a ***** because I had pale pink nail polish on. It was against the no makeup rule. I went home and told my Aunt Kathy, And she said oh she didn't like the pink? And proceeded to paint all of my nails a different color, Black, neon greens, oranges she even put stripes and dots on them. I was suspended the next day. But boy was it worth it. When my Dad came to get me, He was laughing what were you thinking? I then told him his sister had done it!!!It is a very fond memory I have of my Aunt. She died just 2 weeks ago.
My Dad's office was within sight of my English class, You could actually see his window, He would wave and I would wave back. They would flip. Tell me I was being Fresh. Which Truthfully I was HORRIBLE. Nothing bad by any means just passive not following rules!
They asked me to leave Before Halloween and refunded my years tuition!!!!! Hello, Didn't they know that was exactly what I was trying to do? Get kicked out? My Dad came to get me and thought it was hysterical. My Mother on the other hand did not! ::yes::
