What kind of magnets do you use for doors?

I'm getting a little too excited for my upcoming cruise and asking too many questions..

but I want to make some diy door magnets. I've been looking on the Michaels website and I found 2 types of magnets to use. They have separate circular, slightly thicker magnet; and there is also the flat cut-off roll of magnets.

Which one is used most by all of y'all?

I usually buy the self-adhesive magnet sheets (I believe they're like 1'X3'). I print my pictures, cut them out and lay them out on the sticky side (so as to not waste a lot of magnets) and then cut them out again.

The magnet itself is pretty much like your typical brown/black rubber fridge magnet.

If you are cruising concierge, you need heavier duty magnets (neodymium).

We sailed on the Wonder in 2015 and the paint on the door was so thick that the only magnets that stuck were the neodymium ones. We were gifted a few magnets on magnet paper and they slid right off the door.

I print my stuff on normal photo paper or cardstock, depending on what it is.

Then I use Staples business card magnets, which are peel and stick, and stick one or two on the back as needed.

works great and by printing on normal surfaces, so much easier and cheaper.

I also just print on card stock and then cut pieces of magnet off a self-adhesive roll. Have always worked.

You can buy printable magnet paper at Michaels. Then just lay out your pictures in a word document and print. No glueing required.

I also agree with it really makes a difference what ship you are on. We used a number of magnets on the Fantasy and then our next trip was on the Wonder and due to the number of coats of paint those same magnets didn't stick. If you are sailing on the Wonder you will need to use heavy duty magnets.

Another thing, if you are getting your pictures laminated you will not want to use the lightest weight of laminate. These tend to curl which also makes it harder for the magnets to stick.

I use a tape roll kind of magnet that I've found at Scholar's Choice in Canada in the teacher supply section. It worked on the Fantasy but I covered much of the back of the images with magnets. It's the same weight as the business cards mentioned above but I think the business cards would be a lot less work as they are larger to begin with. I'm going to look for those!

we just came back off of the magic and I made door magnets for our trip. I used card stock, self laminating sheets and self adhesive magnets. I made the images and then laminated then and then cut them out before applying magnets. Here is our door from Our Dec 4th Disney Magic Cruise out of Miami

We were just on the Wonder. We used all kinds of magnets and did not have trouble with them staying up. I usually print what I want on regular paper. Laminate it and put a business card stick on magnet on the back.

I would add, bring some blank magnets or magnet paper on board with you. Guest services can give you scissors and paste and you can make more magnets as you go our of the navigators, tickets to things, etc. My wife turned our door into a living scrap book. She took pictures of it every day. It was a great way to live the trip on the door each time we came back to our room.

Where did you print the pics? Or do you mean you cut the navigators and other things into magnets/souvenirs on the ship?

Would the printable sheets work in your opinion?

Yes, exactly. She cut up navigators, tickets to excursions or the Rain forest Room, shore guides, anything she could find (that wasn't vandalism, LOL), and pasted them onto magnets and added them to our door throughout the trip. She had a lot to choose from, really.

Glad to know that works...I just purchased those the other day.

Love this idea! I am planning to do this on the interior door or the door that connects to the next cabin. Kids will love that.
