I checked "other." I'm vegetarian and DH is not. We both love to eat out. That's one of the reasons we like Epcot so much--we know we can always find a number of different places to eat that we'll both like!

Locally, we lean toward independently-owned restaurants. We live in a college town so a lot of independently-owned restaurants have some vegetarian-friendly items on their menus. Chain restaurants are a sore point with me--servers generally don't know what is vegetarian and what is not (Olive Garden, TGIFridays, Macaroni Grill, etc.).....I get so tired of hearing, "I think it's vegetarian" or "I don't really know" or "Well, it's tomato sauce, wouldn't that be vegetarian?" etc., etc.

Currently we eat a lot of breakfasts at a local diner-style place, and we have dinner fairly frequently at a local Tex-Mex place that says right on their menu that their beans and taco shells have no lard. Chain restaurants, listen up! Even if you don't want to cater to vegetarians, a lot of carnivores won't eat at your restaurant if their vegetarian family and friends can't eat there!

We like to patronize locally owned, small mom and pop type places- especially ethnic restaurants. We have faves here in our little suburb of Charlotte in many cuisines- Lebanese, Turkish, East European (from the country of Georgia), Moroccan, Thai, Korean, Italian, Carolina BBQ, Peruvian, sushi, and Greek. We aren't big chain restaurant types, nor do we do much simple, basic food like steak or burgers.
:thumbsup2
I envy you. I have to make my own. Charlotte is 1.5 hrs away, and if your not a Charlotte local you need a machine gun mounted to a Humvee to navigate the Charlotte highways. I can cross an entire state in 2 hours. On the wrong night that will get me 5 miles on I-85 in Charlotte.

Just to add when at home I mainly cook but some evenings we do order take away/delivery, or go to a fast food joint. For a more special occasion we go out to either a nice chain (Frankie and Bennys for example) or a local independent restaurant.

Claire ;)

Exactly like us! I am vegetarian and DH is not. We rarely eat at chains since they rarely have an interesting vegetarian item on their menu (who wants to eat side salad or plain pasta when they go out??). We mainly go to local places and ethnic restaurants since they have lots of choices that we both enjoy.

My personal favorite are Indian restaurants which we luckily have an abundance of in my neighborhood.

:lmao:I try to stay away from the bad Charlotte traffic! We live in Union County, in Indian Trail, so we don't get the worst of the traffic. When we moved here 9 years ago, there wasn't much available- we couldn't even get pizza delivered to our neighborhood! Now, we can drive just a few miles away and eat at really good restaurants. The city has crept in to our little country town.

I like variety. Love supporting local places whether they are dives or fancy. Mix it up. It is the spice of life, as they say.

Thanks for the recommendations! Dh's family is German, and I think they are drawn to that particular place for the German atmosphere. I've never been there, so I don't know what it's like. When I went to the website, I immediately thought of Epcot's Biergarten! :)

I'm a SRU alum, though back in my time there it was a dry town! We haven't been up that way in almost 20 years. My ILs live in Irwin, so Slippery Rock is a bit of a haul but I'd love to visit the campus. If we ever make it up that way, I'll get a sub at Bob's Subs and will try a beer at the "new" restaurant. I wouldn't mind checking out the new-to-us outlets in Grove City, too!

Not a problem! :thumbsup2 Many of my family are SRU alum too! Yes It once was dry but there was a big push to put this place in. They worked on it for years and you can tell! Even down to the bathrooms! For example the facet is a (carved wooden) hand holding a watering can where the water comes out of. Years of hard work!!

We prefer chain restaurants- Chili's, Applebees, Famous Daves, Outback, etc..

Had Burger King the other day (1st time in years) and it was nasty!

I voted Diners, Drive Ins and Dives but there are a few local independent restaurants that don't fall in that category that I enjoy very much. I avoid the chains whenever I can - fortunately the area I live in has done a pretty good job of keeping them out. The exceptions are the 99 and Applebees. Other than that we have mostly locally owned places.

I voted other, because it depends on the situation.

I would prefer to eat at nicer places but can't afford them all the time.
We don't eat a ton of fast food. McDonalds once in awhile, and maybe Moes, or Qdoba.

When home, we go to chain places sometimes, but really prefer the local sushi, chinese, seafood, pizza restaurants. Our favorite chains are Red Robin, and Macaroni grill.

When we are away from home (even if it is just an hour away to DC/Annapolis) we have a rule that we NEVER EVER eat at someplace we can eat at home. So it is generally the local places or at least a chain that is not in our area.

Since I didn't see "bar food" as an option, I voted that I prefer to cook myself. I like to go out to eat every now and then, but it is disappointing to me to spend the money and not like the food, that seems to happen to us a lot. We try local places, seem to have better luck with the chains as their food is more consistent, and typically better quality than the small local places. However, for some reason, nothing beats bar food. :confused3 Whether its chicken fingers and steak fries or a burger, bar food is always good.

Probably depends what city your in. When we were in Vegas, there were some killer local/family owned restaurants....where we are now....not so much!

Give me greasy, large and fried! I can feel my arteries hardening already.

I voted other...I like to try and find good local places...they are usually the best anyway. Plus I like to support the local economy.

I like keeping it simple and on the plain side. Gourmet food is a total waste on me. I'll take a good diner over a fancy restaurant any day. :thumbsup2

We usually like to cook at home. I don't eat fast food, don't like to get dressed up. DH is a germaphobe who worries about what is going on in the kitchen. We are really good cooks and like to stay home.

Favorite type of food: italian.
