What kind of flowers do the set designers use to line the hedges on Desperate Housewives? I've been watching Seasons 4 & 5 on Netflix and I just love the large white and purple flowers they use to set off the greenery. Unfortunately, my flower know how is limited. Does anyone know?

I don't think the Wisteria grow low to the ground and singular like these. I think the Wisteria are the vines, but I'm not really all that knowledgeable.

I would assume they were wisteria- considering the name of the street they live on.... google them.

I don't know what the flowers are but I do absolutely know what Wisteria is. I googled it and the search only confirmed that Wisteria grows in bloom clusters that hang down almost like grapes. Yes they live on Wisteria lane, which is why the Wisteria are draped over everyone's front porches like beautiful Ivy, and I already knew this. The flowers I am asking about grow from the ground up and sit about 2 feet above the ground on relatively sturdy upright stems.

Does anyone know what the non-Wisteria Flowers I'm talking about are?

Are you talking about hydrangeas? They are stalky and come in a variety of purples, blues, pinks, and whites.

such a nice picture of them too :thumbsup2

and for sure not wisteria. It is a vine that climbs and the flowers as a PP said hang down like a bunch of grapes.

I can't picture the DH flowers, or I'd offer my thought...I'll be looking on Sunday night now ;)

They look sort of like Hydrangeas but they are singular plants alternating between white and purple to complement the Wisteria above and I've only ever seen Hydrangeas grow in cloud like shrubs. Also, in one of the episodes I got a good look and the flower wasn't the tight snowball like shaping of the Hydrangeas I've always seen. The flowers I'm talking about poof out on top of the stalk but gently fade back on the stalk for a few inches.

They are just so beautiful. We're landscaping this year and I am totally in love with the way they designed the flowers in front of the homes. I know I might not be able to pull it off since the set is probably in a warm climate to keep the flowers blooming for the show... but I can hope.

Thank you so much for all your help. I do not have a green thumb at all, but I love pretty things:goodvibes

Poppies grow like that, tho I don't see purple and white often. Allium also grows like that and is purple and white.

Tis a mystery!

I know that Bree has hydrangeas around her tree in the front yard. Blue and white. I have heard people tell her how nice the hydrangeas look when she was working on them. I think they are not in huge bunches as maybe they are kept thinned out, as they do make nice cut flowers, or perhaps they are not real. I am trying to find out the blue and white ones that are in susans side yard that have clumps of long leaves at the bottom. The flowers look fuzzy. lol not sure how else to explain it.

I plant several different flowers and have my own herb garden. i'll be happy to answer anything i can.

Iris? Do a Google image - there are various forms such as bearded, Siberian, Japanese and Dutch.

I've never seen the show - but from the description they sound like agapantha.

hon they are Gladeolus...they use white, pink and purple that i can see. I looked them up myself and i remember Gladeoulus. they are gorgeous, and desperate housewives set uses alot in groups so they are really beautiful. i hope this helps.

actually that does help, I was thinking it might be free standing phlox but Gladiolas sould likely too. I am going back to working on my flower beds soon and something like that with a layer of ground cover in front could be pretty.

thanks for stopping in! You're a peach:goodvibes

uh....you know all the flowers they use on the show are fake - right? Hard to get real flowers in the colors they show.

How do you know this?

they don't look fake to me and I often see pretty vibrant flowers in real life, I would expect sunny southern California is full of pretty flowers.
