What kind of Digital Camera would be good?

I am a purest and prefer a film camera with hard prints, but I am considering a digital camera. Currently I have prints made from film and get a photo CD of all of the pictures from the roll.

At work we use Sony's that use 3.5 inch floppies to store the image. Picture auality is good, but camera cost is high.

My sister has an Olympus and really likes it. I don't know which model she has, but it uses the flash cards for storage. The flash cards can get expensive but hold a ton of pix.

Anyone have any recommendations on which model would be a good investment.

I have an olympus D-460 with a zoom and I love mine, yes I know the smartmedia cards can get expensive but they last forever and hold enough pix for me. on high resolution on a 16mb card I can get up to 73 pics, on low resolution I can get 244, it all depends on what resolution you use.

I have a an olympus 460 zoom. It takes very good pictures. If you go to the Home shopping network web site www.hsn.com they have a lot of cameras and, they offer payment options on them. That's where I got mine from

and I really like it. I use a 16mb smartcard and it gives me 115 high resolution or 74 okay resolution pictures. Sucks up batteries though. I think they all do. If you take a digital camera to disney, buy another memory card and invest in a second pack of rechargeable batteries, so you always have a set waiting in the wings.

I bought my camera on Ebay, paid $200 for it (shipping included). It was brand new (not refurbished), comes with a 1 year warranty from Kodak. It's a $450 camera.

I have the Sony Mavica that uses the 3.5 floppy. I purchased this because of the ease of disk storage. 3.5's are dirt cheap, memory sticks are not (depending on the style needed). The disk holds from 30-40 pictures. Then just pop them out of the camera and into your computer no downloading neccessary. You can easily pack a box of 10 floppys in your bag and the cost is $5 or less. An extra memory stick will cost much more than that.

I am from the 'old school' of photography- SLR and totally manual. However, my husband is not and it was time to go digital. We did the research and found a Kodak DC4800 was the camera for us. Searched the web, Ebay and actually ended up getting it at Sams. Ours came with 64 mb memory, 2 lithium ion batteries (which seem to do pretty well and recharge in the camera) 3.1 megapixils and some manual overrides (for me!). We also ordered from Sams (on the internet) an accessory package which has another 64 mb memory, tripod (tabletop), Compact Flash reader (so you can download w/o camera), extra photography software and a camera case (which is a little small). The camera was 479.00 and the accessories were 99.00 plus shipping. Takes some pretty good pictures too!
