You can't go wrong with the Canon. I purchased a PowerShot A60 two years ago and have no problem with it. Has aoutmatic and manual settings and 3.0 Optical Zoom with 2.5x Manual Zoom. Should be looking for high Optical Zoom. It only has a 2.0 MP but for what I use it for, it works great. I really don't enlarge anything. With 128 Mb memory card I can store about 120 pictures. Software is easy to use and works great with my Canon Printer Cost per 8x10 is about $1.50

I agree. I bought a Canon G4 after extensive research (www.dpreview.com is a good site for lots of info on digital photography).

Bottom line though, go into a store and handle the cameras you're considering. If you're not comfortable with it, you won't be happy with it.

Another 717 user here. I love it :) except it is big and fairly bulky :(

I too just purchased the Sony cybershot 5.0 through Best Buy.com for 299.00 and not being all that camera savy the camera takes great pictures! I am very happy with it! If I can I usually try to buy online through igive.com, they have hundreds of online stores and a portion of the purchase price goes to the charity of my choice.....I love this site!:cat: :fish:

Sony Cybershot P52- a very good camera!

I really like my canon sd100 (now it's the 110...same camera, just a different color).

I bought it off amazon and got it fairly cheap. I also bought a 256 mb memory card off amazon and got it with a rebate.

I like this website for reviews: http://www.steves-digicams.com/

We have a Sony MVC-FD92 and really love it. You can use a floppy or memory card, and the pictures have been awesome. It is a bit bigger than the smaller digital cameras, but really like the larger viewing screen it has in the back.

Canon Digital Elph Powershot S500. Got it a couple of weeks ago and it's our first digital.....held out as long as possible. It's great fun though!

Thanks for all the responses. You know what the problem is?
There's just too many damn cameras to choose from. :headache: (just kidding;) ) Like I said I have a pretty good idea of what I want.

Thanks again! I knew I could count on all of you for the scoop on cameras.

I have the Cannon A70. The selling feature for me was that it has up to 3 mins. of Video with Audio. Which alot of the other cameras didn't have. I love it. Easy to use and alot of settings.

I have a sony mavica cd500. It's 5mpx. It stores pictures on small discs rather than a memory card. I bought 100 discs for 30 bucks at amazon, and they each hold about 85 pics each at the highest settings (5mpx). It also has a rechargable infolithium battery (like a camcorder). It takes beautiful pictures. I like it a lot and would recommend it to anyone, but it's a little higher than your price range I think.

tricia.

I agree that there's just too many to choose from LOL! What ones have you narrowed it down to??

I have a Canon G1, 3.3 MegaPixel. Had it a few years now but it still takes good pictues :)

We got our third Olympus digital camera about 4 months ago. The new one, the C-5000 ZOOM, is a 5.0 megapixel resolution. That, and the numerous manual options, were the reason for the replacement. The previous 2 cameras used Smartmedia; this one uses xd cards. In order to use them with printers, card readers, etc., I bought an adapter to CompactFlash. So far it works well, but I haven't had time to try all the options.

Looking at your link, it is in your price range.

I just bought DH the Kodak 6490 for our anniversary. We have a Kodak that we bought about 5 yrs ago that still works great but it's 1.0 MP. The thing that I liked best about the Kodak was the 10x zoom. Hopefully he'll like it....

We've had this for years and years... it's a great camera, but we find it a little slow... either that or our kids are too darn fast. Thinking of upgrading to the F828.
