Get it done. As one of my mentors put it...."once it's done, it's done". I used to try to have my newscasts done an hour before air. That gave you an hour to proof read scripts, answer anchor questions, update scripts and deal with late breaking news.
When I was a hiker at Budget Rent A Car, I used to really make my co-worker mad. His work day started and ended 3 hours before mine, and he would often just sit around. When he left one day, in the three hours after he left I served every car that had come in so they were ready for customers with reservations the next morning. He was livid. He said he would have serviced those cars while the customers waited, he didn't see a need to have them ready ahead of time.
