What is your opinion on the United Kingdom?

Teachers knew (or should have known or researched the job) before going into the profession. They should have known the “extra time” they would be putting in and what the salary is. I have a younger family member who is a teacher and constantly says she loves her kids but complains about the salary and extra work outside school hours. She really needs to find another job. I have another relative who loves her kids, loves the job, doesn’t mind the after hours work and doesn’t plan to retire anytime soon.

Teachers overall are awesome and in some places underpaid but so are other professions. there are many jobs with salaried positions where those people routinely put in over 40 hours per week year round.

 Please list some of the benefits because they must be doozies to trump dog-rats, tent cities and car jackings.
The best festivals--I'm just a 5 minute walk from French Quarter Fest, a 15 minute walk from the Mardi Gras parade route, a 5 minute drive from Jazz Fest, I can see the NYE fireworks from my window or take a 7 minute stroll to the waterfront....
The best people--I have seriously never lived or visited anywhere that is so incredibly neighborly, even to perfect strangers. In Orlando, I didn't even know the people who lived in the next apartment. Here, I know everybody.
The best live music--All I have to do is take an evening stroll, and I'll come across brass bands, guitarists playing on the street corner, and an endless array of bars where I can sit comfortably and listen to music of any stripe all night long for a one-drink cover charge
The best shopping--whether I want vintage clothes, pricey antiques, battered old stuff, swords, a huge farmers' market, costumes, records, a fantastic nighttime art market....all within a few minutes' walk
The best food--There are literally hundreds of incredible restaurants in easy walking distance from me, including the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the United States. Yet the corner store deli counters serve up food that's every bit as delicious, at a quarter of the price. Truly something for every taste and budget.
The best historical preservation--I live in a gorgeous Victorian single family home that was renovated down to the studs right before we move in, for just a teensy bit more than we were paying for a generic apartment in Orlando. We also have beautiful above ground cemeteries, stunning courtyards, Jackson Square, the riverfront...even the t-shirt shops are in these incredible historic buildings. The carriages pass by my yard on their route, and if I ever want to know something specific, I just ask one of the many historic tour guides I know.

I could go on and on, but those are a few of the benefits that outweigh tent cities and car jackings :)

OK, I'll admit above-ground cemeteries are cool. :thumbsup2

Youth soccer referees, my son gets $40 a game as an assistant ref, $60 for head refs, even for hour long games.

My summers without friends in the mountains. Being in a remote area without friends, video games and even McDonald's (gasp) was brutal. I had nothing to do but wander around the woods, and you can imagine the type of "great" idea's I came up with.

I love NOLA. My favorite place to visit in the continental US.

i can't think of anything, but as an only child, it didn't take much to amuse me.

Government jobs DON’T pay well. There are some great benefits but the pay is not great and pretty lousy in some instances.

On the other hand court reporters are paid pretty well.
On average, according to a Pew study, public sector jobs total compensation is 27% higher than private sector for the same job. That includes benefits. It certainly depends on the job. A co-worker my age with the same experience just took a state government job, and thanks to public records of salaries I know just his salary is $75,000 a year more than I make.

Well, I now live in a historic area with lots of 200+ year old homes, so lots of stuff is outdated, and will probably stay that way. Part of the charm. Gotta be careful waling on the brick sidewalks.

? I have no idea what you mean by this. You mean old people with Farrah Fawcett hair? I don't see any of those.

I guess I wouldn't call that outdated. Thing like that are like fine wines. They get better with age. As opposed with the 1970s split level homes. They haven't aged as gracefully. People here buy those places and tear them down and start over.

Pharmacists. I equated them with the cashiers in the drug stores, so I figured it didn't pay much.

Badly: Anything human services related: teachers, nurses, law enforcement, pastors, social services, goods and services workers, etc.

Well: The entertainment industry. Figured they made less than the above. Doesn’t seem right though.

Wear a bikini. Well I guess i could, but it's not pretty!
Read small print, my freaking arms aren't long enough lol

NO! And wine and coffee both have health benefits!

But I like the blue box mac and cheese but the older kind had way cheesier/saltier flavor, about 2 decades ago.

I just can't drink wine, there is something in it that just turns me off. Coffee is better, but only if it's iced coffee with some flavored creamer. I do not like hot drinks of any kind. And unfortunately due to a health condition, I can only drink it very occasionally and in small amounts. So generally I just don't.

The blue box mac and cheese tastes the same as always to me. I sure wouldn't mind some right now!

Procrastination. I have a very bad habit of putting things off until the last possible minute. When I was a working illustrator this caused many sleepless nights as I tried to make a deadline.

Servers in a restaurant, who are good, can make pretty amazing money. At least in a state where there is no "sub" minimum wage for tipped positions. When I was in High School, when the minimum wage was $2 an hour, I had a job that paid $2.25 an hour and I was delighted. Until I found out my friends who were waiting tables were earning an addition $2-$3 an hour in tips.

Sure their hourly rate is good but you can't get 40 hours a week at most restaurants.
