What is your October car rental rate?

Inspired by the September thread, I was curious as to what rates you might be finding for October.

I have 6 days booked starting October 11, with National for an intermediate. I got a rate of $153.79 using the Am-ex contract 5125601 and BJ's $20.00 coupon.

I have a free day available thru National, but it only gave me $3.00 more off than the coupon, so I thought I might as well hang on to it until I get another free day and let it make a difference.

I am hoping for either a better rate for this vehicle or a better coupon that would get me a mid-size SUV for the same rate as I get closer to the trip. All of National's coupons expire before Oct 1.

Guess I am the only one renting a car in October, so I ought to have a pretty good selection of vehicles on the Emerald Aisle. :rotfl2:

We have reservations with National -- Oct. 14 - 21
Intermediate -- Emerald Isle --coupon from Entertainment for $20.00 off --
$206.64 - total. We have never paid that much -- but -- checking today using the same codes the rate is at $332.52 ---- OUCH!!!!

Will keep checking!!!

Not sure what contract code you used, but have you tried the American Express code from Mousesavers? There are two listed, one gave me a very high rate and the second one listed gave me my current rate.

You are renting just one more day than I am , but your rate is more than $50 higher than mine. Maybe there are other reasons, but you might want to check.

Now, I am ready for someone to tell me what contract and coupon will make mine lower. :thumbsup2

Oy! I am ashamed of my rate! The only problem is that it is the lowest I've found so far using multiple codes, different companies, even different pick-up and drop-off sites...but here it is...don't laugh!

Alamo - Intermediate SUV - 11 days - $364.96/total - Used Walmart code and $25-off coupon. :confused3 I booked in late April too!

In my defense, I just checked rates with Alamo today with the same codes and the same rental is now up to $530-ish. Pathetic! :car:

I am praying we will see the rates drop at the end of summer...it is horrible!

I have 10 days in October for $138. Booked it months ago with Alamo.
I keep watching National and hoping to get a decent rate with them, even if I have to pay a little more.

Using the AMEX code you used (+ a $20 coupon) gives me a rate of $242 for 9 days in November, using EA. Using the Entertainment code and any number of others that I've been trying for months, the cheapest rate (with the coupon) is $405!!!! How can there be so much difference?

Actually I booked a month ago, for $306, so I consider myself lucky! I hate to repeat what so many others are saying, but I've NEVER seen rates this high. Of course, they've always come down as it gets closer to the trip, and I'm hoping that will happen.

Oh, forgot to add that I don't have AMEX. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

I have been checking around tonight ---
Wondering how Thrifty is -- I know that it is off sight.
Can get a compact (Neon) -- there are only 2 of us on this trip - $111.97 total. Still hoping for National Emeral Isle to come down -- I posted earlier that I have an intermediate for $206 ---- the American Express card brought it down to $180 -

Does anyone know why the rates are so high??? :confused3 You would think with gas prices so high they would be chomping at the bit to get cars off their lots...especially now that Disney has the Magical Express buses. I don't travel much, so I really don't know if this is normal, but I am curious. I might even send Alamo an email and see what they say about these outrageous prices!

I guess I'm a lucky one. I booked back in January for my October trip with Alamo, got an Intermediate SUV for $98 for 9 days. :teeth: I used www.vacationoutlet.com to get a discount with Alamo. Was going to use a coupon, but decided against it (only saved $15) since if you have a coupon, you have to wait in the Alamo line...without a coupon I can check in online and go right to my car...

Wow, you really did well. Congrats on the rate, and I don't think your will be getting any better than that.

I'm so jealous!!! ;)

I have been looking for months and can't find a decent rate for the 7th-15th. We may end up using ME instead. If anyone finds anything decent, please let us know.

The October rates are way too high for us right now. We're thinking of booking a Towncar at this point.

Keep checking - they will hopefully get better! I just got an Alamo "HotDeals" email on 6/21 that had deals until the 4th of July...so check once a week now...but about a month before you leave check daily! The cars listed for Orlando Airport are few...but I am guessing that is because of the holiday weekend...

I believe you can book ME up until 10 days prior to your arrival date...but I could be wrong...

Good luck!

Has anyone tried Priceline yet??? I only ask because I just used it to rent a car here in Milwaukee for 1 day (10/15-10/16) to use to get to the airport prior to our flight. I was getting prices for that 1 day around $40 w/o taxes. I tried Priceline and got a 1 day full-size car for $25 w/o taxes ($37.83 w/ taxes). I am nervous about trying it for a whole trip because if they accept the price I have to pay for it now and I cannot cancel.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it for Oct yet...

Not me. I would much rather book with National and know that I can make a change if I find a better deal.

I have a reservation with National. Using the Amex code and a big 10 coupon two-car upgrade, I have a full size for seven days in late October for $190.33 (pick up and drop off at MCO).

I'm hoping something better will come along too.

I'm trying to stick with National because I recently joined Emerald Club and want to build up those free days.

and skipping the counter and walking out to select your car is nice, too, with National.
