What is your ideal...?

What is your ideal number of points? Not how many you have but how many you wish you had? We are looking at resale. Was at first considering about 160 points. Hubby questioned if this was enough... so now we are looking at 250 points!

I've done enough research to know to take into consideration time of year, view, resort, etc. Just curious if you were satisfied with what you have. Thanks!

We started with 150 then quickly realized that was not enough and added on 75...At the time I was not working so we could go at off-peak times...Now I am back to work as a teacher and must go at high-peak times...So we added on again...Now we are at 425...That is it for us and is ideal for our needs.

We're at 520, 320 at AKL & 200 at SSR. I think another 100 or so, either at BCV or VWL should be fine.

It depends on how often you go to WDW and what accomodations you are looking for.

We are a family of 3, so a 1 bedroom is fine for us. To this point we have taken most of our vacations in the fall (October) so the points are less than peak times.

We have 150 points, and outside of our first trip (studio) we have always gotten a 1 bedroom, and did a 2 Bedroom at OKW last fall. We have borrowed points, so I have 124 for next year 2010.

This has worked just fine for us. 150 would not work if we needed a two bedroom every time.

So again, think about accomodations, how often you will go to WDW, and then review the points charts to determine how much you plan on using, that should give you an idea.

We have a total of 540 points. 270 at both AKV and BLT So far we have used all our 2008 and part of 2009 for a 2BR at Thanksgiving and we have a 2 BR at BLT for next august.

I also have a 1BR for a few days at BWV in January 2010 with my kiddos. We are not always going to be getting 2 BRs and we still have 96 points for 2010 and no trips planned so I say it is all good right now.

I think if we were going to add on anywhere else it would be at either the BW or BC so just need to figure it all out.

the reason we have 270 at each resort is so that we have a contract for each kid when they are older.

Depends on how often you go, typical room size, length of trips and time of year.

I don't think many people are "satisfied" with how many they have. There's always a new resort to visit or a new excuse to add extra trips.

I suggest you buy initially on the small side of what you think you might need (and can afford). That gives you room to add on later.

We are very happy with our 150 points. It is just enough for us to go every other November in a 2 bedroom. The "off" year we do a non-Disney trip (gasp). Even though I love Disney, there are other parts of the country I want my kids to see. With 5 kids, there is no way we can financially afford to do more than one vacation a year (besides camping)

I was satisfied with the number of points we had.
Then they changed the point requirement. And hit the 1 BR particularly hard.

We only have 150 at OKW.
It was fine for this year, but we used 3 years of points 2 studio trips and a 2 bdrm trip. Great fun, but now not looking at going back until 2011

We did also buy 120 at VGC, so DLR is on the schedule for a couple trips next year. Studio.

I would like to add another 100 at VGC, but with a house that isn't selling that has to wait.
Also would love 150 at VWL...also on hold.

I started with 160 AKV points and quickly discovered that with wanting to vacation in 1BRs every year is not enough. So, I added on 50, then another 50. Soon came the 60 at BCV.

I now have 320 points -- 260 at AKV and 60 at BCV. The 260 is enough to get us a 1BR trip every year. The 60 at BCV will get us a 2nd 1 BR trip every 3rd year, with banking and borrowing. As much as I would love to go more often, I've hit my limit at the moment.

We are "empty nesters" that always book a 1 bdrm, generally in Nov, Dec or May. We occasionally take 1 or 2 guests so sometimes get larger or mutiple units. Right now we have 160pts at SS, and all is good. That said - with some new resorts coming on (Hawaii!!) we may look at going to 250. Since we fly in from Colorado, we generally do not come more than once a year (but plan 2 trips within a 11 month period so we get 2 trips in on annual passes). We also have a timeshare that can be traded to Disney and can use that if we need a fall-back plan. Takes some planning - but hey - it's my hobby

We've got 275 points, and that's about 1,200 a year in annual dues. I would not want to go higher than that on the annual dues.

Our ideal number seemed to be 380, but when we decided we had to have some AKV points, we added on. I thought it would be WAY more points than we could use with 449, but somehow we manage to use them!

My point is that you will adjust to whatever you have. We started with 230, and right away it wasn't enough. That's when we added 150 more. For 10 years that was plenty, but adding the additional points seems to keep us about even too, so you will adjust no matter what you have.

We have our perfect number of points, proportioned properly over four resorts.

At least it works good on paper, but there will likely be tweaking over the years.

Ideally I would like enough points to take an annual 10-12 night DVC trip at SSR (off season) to WDW around 300 points and then a week long summer trip to Disneyland at the GCV, I am guessing somewhere around 250 points.

We started with 230 then added 25, then added 30, and stayed at 285 for 13 years. Lots of studio trips during that time. Now, it seems we want more space, even though there are the same number of people! Recently added 100 at BLT. At 385, seems like enough, but I would like some at VGC......

Couldn't help but jump in on this one . . .

1. Buy small contracts to keep you ability to sell quickly if the need arrises (heaven forbid!) One week at each of the resorts you like in a one bedroom at high season allows for manuverability.

2. It is not the number of points that is so important, but the annual maintenance fees that tag along. Keep them where you feel you have a deal for what you get out of the experience.
