What is your favorite time of year to camp at Fort Wilderness?

We've been in June, December, February, they were all good. I will say the best IMO was the early December trip. Even with temps getting down to upper 40's at night a few times at WDW it was still a lot warmer than at home!

Thanks, this is great, was going to sort of ask the same thing, expect the hubby and campfire part - we usually go to Disney in September and stay at All Star Sports ... and I suppose hurricane season is not the season to go camping in a tent at Fort Wilderness :-) I am being drawn to Fort Wilderness though .. to camp in my tent .. because it just seems super neat - I may have to consider early May or early Dec?!

I was going to start a new topic, but this one is along the same line.

Next year we are going back to the Fort for DS' graduation. We'll also be taking my 5y/o niece and her mom (my DS) for their first trips to WDW. DS graduates on May 27th. I've been to WDW between Feb-August. DW says no Spring Break again... ever. (twice was enough) and DS and DW say "Summer" is too hot. (We normally would go June/July/August due to school.)

I'm thinking the first full week in June, before the "real" heat kicks in or early/mid September when crowds should be much better than any non-school month.

I've never been down in September though and it sounds like it isn't much better than August for temps. It will kill me to wait all summer to go, but if crowds, weather and prices are that good, I'll manage.

Thoughts?

We've been in June, October, and November.

Personally I liked October best. My wife and kids preferred November. October was more predictable with the weather being warm, November was literally bouncing from 70's to 30's during that stay. Plus, if my kids miss school in October it's only for 3 days with fall break being there vs. an entire week in November (no way I'm going with Thanksgiving crowds).

Planning on going in late feb/early march. I havent been in 20 years! Last time i went was the same time and it was great, but i know things have changed!

Man are you in for an awakening. I had a 15 year gap and am still in shock over all the changes. Enjoy

That's when we went this year - the weather is truly different every year. We had 80* weather first few days, some rain, then very windy and cold - never know when you will hit it 'just' right!!

We've stayed in the Fort every October since 2009. Always loved the weather that time of year. Also the decorations for Halloween that everyone puts up adds to the atmosphere. If you come in October decorate anything and everything you can on your site for Halloween. It makes it so much fun for all the kids (including the ones that have their ten and eight year olds in tow ).

We made our first stay in July this past summer and were dreading the heat. Apparently it wasn't a big issue as we will be back over the Fourth this summer again!

We are making our first Spring Break trip this April. Can't wait to see what this time of year is like.

Long Live Musket Mickey!

(no way I'm going with Thanksgiving crowds).

I hear ya, but we still go during this time. We actually plan it to check in on Thanksgiving day. Then that Friday and Saturday are a bit crazy, but we also stay the following week. That week (after Thanksgiving) is not bad at all. Crowds died down.... The weather will still "bounce" from High to Low but being from NE Pennsylvania, even the LOW at the Fort is usually better than what it would be at home (for us anyway).

We go during that time for the same reasons many other do. School schedules. We still take our DD out of school, but the timing of it with their vacation and they only miss 4.5 days of school (and we get all their home work before we leave so it's all caught up). Last time (2014) she only missed 3 days. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving (A half day of school), they had a snow storm that cancelled school, and the Tuesday after Thanksgiving they still had a cancellation because of weather. Of course the days in between were already scheduled off because of the holiday.

When we got back the kids (we had 2 in school on that trip. Eldest now graduated) were actually AHEAD because of the school work they got before we left.
