What is your favorite smell on Disney Cruise Line? For me it is the smell of the hallway from the lobby to the Parrot Cay enterance area on the Wonder! I know that is kind of weird but it is what makes me happy!

It's funny. I remember the very first time I was on a ship. (I can't say "cruise ship" because it was a Transatlantic crossing). It was on the QE2 in 1976. My older brother and I both noticed an odd, somewhat-awful-but-not quite smell and quickly discerned that it was the cleaning fluid that the crew members used to keep everything disinfected. And we all know how smells can become indelible markers on our brain. For years, when we encountered that smell in other places, we would instantly turn to each other and say "Ship Smell!!" To this day, I can't get that smell out of my head, and can pick it out on any cruise ship. So I just can't get myself to associate a positive smell with any particular ship. So I will go with "ocean" as well. ...Or teak varnish.

Donald Duck's bill.

Nah, the fresh sea air, and maybe the popcorn by the theater.

On my previous cruise on the Dream, there was this unpleasant odor that seemed to linger around the restaurants. Just an odd smell, not sure what caused it, but I was not a fan.

It would not surprise me one bit if what you smelled was the cleaning fluid that I was describing above. The dining rooms is where we first smelled it, and where I notice it the most.

Could be! If so, it's such an odd and unfortunate smell. Unlike any cleaning supplies I've ever encountered.

It smelled like fish/seafood at the entrance of the Royal Palace. It wasn't as noticeable once we were inside but it was very powerful at the entrance and lingered all day, every day.

I almost wish it was a seafood smell, but it wasn't. It was something very unique. I think I've only come across it a couple of times since then, and it always reminds me of the cruise.

The wonderful clean air/food aromas in the MDR's when you are not close to a lady or gent who has lavishly doused themselves with W-A-Y too much cologne/perfume....actually, that applies to anywhere on the ship.

The sweet smell of a freshly mixed stoli and ice ( well that won't happen after sept. :confused3) on my verandah with the dear wife with a wine glass. All joking aside, the ocean.
Cheers!

My guess is the grease traps needed to be cleaned. You will smell it in restaurant kitchens too. Grease traps are cleaned periodically and when it's close to the time to do it it smells fairly unpleasant.

I agree. It is so unusual that when we encountered it in other places, (all of which are public places that are likely to use a disinfectant), it became instantly recognizable.

I guess you would need to be a old sailor for this, but for me, I enjoy back aft by the stack and the engine room smells out of the vents and the engine exhaust. I guess I miss them being ashore so long.
