Hi all! Well we are 2 weeks out for our long awaited trip! We will be staying at OKW for the first time. We requested top floor near the hospitality house. Will we like it there if we get our request? How steep are the stairs? Will they kill us at the end of a long day? We will have a stroller (lightweight jogger) that will have to be carried up. What is your fave location at OKW? We will be in a 1 bedroom, I am not sure if that matters, and we will have a car but don't plan on taking it to the parks. Thanks!

The stairs aren't bad, and we have bad knees. Our favorite area is South Point because we like the quiet pool there and the walkway to DTD. I also like that it is the second bus stop coming in from the parks. We have stayed in the HH area the last 3 trips, and it is not my favorite, but it's okay. The last bus stop, so that is easy for going to the parks.

I have stayed in that area and got the 3rd floor in building 11 - I liked it nice view -

but I am alot older than you - by the third date I decided I was crazy to get up this high....those steps got pretty hard.

but would I do it again - yes!

I like the area much further away - in South Pointe - building 55 is my favorite!!! I also like building 18 on miller road.

However you might get lucky - building 62-64 have an elevator!

Ok, maybe I should ask this then:
Why don't you like the HH area?

(oh by the way- no matter what the weather is, my son WILL want to try that pool slide if it is open!)

Thanks!

the views at South Pointe are sometime better, the pool (although the smallest) has a very nice view of the stream going to DD.

it is more laid back - the buses don't come to 55 - but there is a bus stop a very short walk away.

It is a pretty area.

the problem with HH - is that the area is probably the busiest at OKW.

if you like a busy area - you will love it.

if you like to sit around and relax when you are in the parks - South Pointe is better (my opinion)

South Point is good for all the reasons mentioned. Our last trip we stayed near the HH for the first time in bldg. 16. This was a good spot because on the way out you caught the bus at HH. On the way back you could get off at the first stop, Penninsular Rd., and just add a couple hundred yards to your walk home. I dont think they'll honor specific bldg. requests. You can ask to be near HH. The only thing I would ask to be away from is any bldg. that has a bus turnaround by the front door. Too noisy! Good luck!

Thanks everyone! Is there any BAD spots? If i leave it up to chance is it possible I would get an awful spot?

We like the buildings near the Peninsular Road bus stop.

Another Turtle Pond Pool area fan here!

Our favorite area is on Old Turtle Pond Road between the bus stop and the Turtle Pond pool. Great location!

If we tell YOU where our favorite spot is, everyone will flock there and it will be too crowded. LOL!

We have only stayed at Miller's Road area, bldg 18, so I guess that is our favorite area to stay at. :earboy2:

Southpointe first choice or Turtle Pond as a second choice.

We didn't like the bldgs. near the HH as it always seemed busy with traffic and noise. Just our opinion though. We like the quietness of OKW and didn't feel that it was quiet up there. We especially didn't like the bigger pool area, too busy! Southpointe was wonderfully quiet!

We have stayed in the far back area of Turtle Pond and loved it. We have also stayed in building 46, 55 (South Point) and building 24. South Point is always are second request. We prefer the quiet areas compared to being next to the HH. It is all a matter of preference.

We have stayed at:

Turtle Pond
Millers Road - multiple times
South Pointe
Peninsular

...in various accomodations. None have been bad even when we were in a building on the bus turnaround at Millers although it was not the best but it was right at the pool which was great.

I did like South Pointe over by the small pool and having just spent a week in building 18 again we are just spoiled by all of them.

We have never stayed by the HH and have been interested in trying it out with our parents since they are elderly and have issues walking.

17 some trips and we have never had a bad spot yet. Anything on the river is really cool, esp.. at night. HH is always convenient, but some of the tucked away spots are really quiet and private. I guess it depends alot on what you are looking for. I think if you give any room location a chance you will find something special to like.

We've never had a bad assignment yet, either. Thad said, Turtle Pond area and South Point are our favorites. For peace and quiet you can't beat #55. It is so secluded I drove past it the first time we were assigned there! Turtle Pond has a bit more action. We love that pool and enjoy having lunch at the little snack bar, when it is open. It's awfully nice to get a Pina Colada at the pool! Both these areas have lots of ducks, which is of extreme importance to my kids, and both are close to bus stops. I LOVE Old Key West!
