What is your favorite memory of a Disneyland ride no longer with us?

Does anybody else ever think about the classic rides at Disneyland that have been removed to make way for the new and up-to-date rides??

I can remember all the times I stood in line for the People Mover because my mom and dad wanted to go on it. I thought it was boring then, but I'd love to go on it now! And what about the always exciting Mission to Mars? Oh and Captain EO?

I was just sitting here thinking about my trips to Disneyland as a kid and wondered if anybody else had a memory of a lost but not forgotten Disneyland attraction....?

I loved Mission to Mars.

I also adored that one where you were "shrunk"...I can never remember its name, sigh.

Does anyone remember, back either in the last 70s or early 80s, a place where you could get orange juice (or orange drink) in a "cup" that looked like an orange? Both DH and I have these memories of this cool orange-like cup, and the only amusement park our childhoods had in common was DL, so we *think* it was there...

The ride was adventure through inner space, I think! I LOVED that too as a kid! Although not a ride, I miss Tahitian Terrace restaurant terribly. I tried teriyaki chicken there for the first time as a kid!! WAHHH!!

I found a site called yesterland dedicated to these old rides and attractions that are no longer at DL. My post counts are too low to post a link, but if you are curious, it is yesterland.com!!

Journey to inner space was the ride... the oranges were a thing for the opening of WDW.

As for things I miss.
1. The pirate ship in FL
2. The previously mentioned Journey to inner space.
3. Mr Lincoln
4. The Sky Buckets
5. The rockets up on the tower in FL

If I could bring back one ride it would be Adventure Through Inner Space. I think they could really do a nice update of this ride with current technology similar that used by Universal on the Spiderman Ride in Orlando. America Sings was also fun. Once again it would be fun to see an updated version. The People Mover was also a favorite of our family. Wow notice that we miss the old Tomorrowland rides the most.

Being on Adventures thru inner space with my Grandpa. I've got a classic picture of the two of us in the "doom buggy".

I hated the Rocket Rods! Those were the worst ever!!!!!!

I miss Captain EO. That was when MJ was cool. LOL I'm glad I got to see it before it was gone. I don't know much else, I haven't had that many trips in my life.

Although Rocket Rods are not a classic and only around for a short time they were awesome! Terrible waits though! That was before fast pass.I loved riding them at night. I hope they put something else on those tracks which were previous to them the people mover....also liked them. Marilyn:thumbsup2

I remember those cups. And I think they also had grape drinks that came in a bunch of grapes. Haven't thought about those cups in forever.

Weeeeeelll, I hate to show my age this way, but my favorite ride was one that lasted, I think, about a year and debuted around 1965. It was a flying saucer bumper car thing. The saucer held 1-2 people, was lifted on a cushion of air and you could zoom around crashing into other saucers by leaning this way and that. Totally cool. Of course, I was just a baby so I'm only passing along what I heard from my parents...:rotfl:

I also miss the Sky Buckets. I was never a People Mover fan (BO-ring), so have no great urge to see the ride return, although I have one memorable moment from it etched in my mind (which I will never tell as it is too mature in nature and might get back to my husband :rolleyes1 ).

Some of the things I loved as a kid would be too hard to do in today's world with the volume of people DL sees and possibly wouldn't be appreciated now the way it was then. I'm thinking of the motor boats, mule ride, and free showing of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea at Main St Cinema (I think that's the name of it). Ok, so I didn't actually like going in to see the movie, but I liked the idea of going in to see a free movie.

Country Bears - oh yes, I totally agree!

Even though they're technically back, the old submarines (we did get to do Nemo last week and loved it!) will always be a wonderful memory from my childhood vacation - my dad was so excited!!! I think I was 7 or 8, but those moments with my dad are classic!

Definitely Inner Space and America Sings! Boy did mention of those orange cups bring back memories! I think I miss Skull Rock in FL the most - that was our family's meeting place and we never really found a good place to meet up after they took that out.

It actually wasn't before FP. Well, it was added in 98 and that's the same year FP was started at AK. DL attractions got FP machines in 99 I believe. Rocket Rods just was too low of a capacity ride to have them (ie Nemo).

But I loved Rocket Rods! They were my favorite ride back then, granted I was only like 7 back then, but still. :goodvibes

I miss hearing "It's a great big beautiful tomorrow". Is this attraction still at the Magic Kingdom at WDW?

Hmm. DH and I have never been to WDW. Well, I *might have* been...my uncle got married when I was wee and we went out to my grandmother's place in Port Orange, and we *might* have gone...but I highly doubt that. And it would make no sense for DH to have the memory, since he's never even been to Florida at all. Hmm.

Oh wait, are you saying that they were in Anaheim, but for Orlando? That might make sense. Oh, but if wikipedia is right and WDW "opened on October 1, 1971" then that doesn't make sense, b/c I wasn't yet 2, and my brother was born in early '72, and he was definitely over one year old when we were in Port Orange, AND I didn't go to Disneyland when I was that young.

Hmm.

DizMe,

I was reading a column by Al, hmm, Lutz? I think it is over on mice age dot com, and he talked about something like that possibly maybe someday maybe coming back? It was something like that. Wow, could I be more iffy on that whole thing?:rotfl:
And now Stacerita has either reopened another memory, or she has given me a false one, b/c I'm remembering a grape thing as well. :upsidedow

yes it was something they came up with as part of the WDW opening and had at DL.... no idea how long they had them... I do seam to remember the grape ones as well but well, that was a long time ago...lol
