What is your favorite "Go To" dish to take to holiday parties?
I have 2 things that are old standbys for holiday parties, but I would love to get some new ideas. Post your favorite dishes to share at parties!
Spinach Artichoke Dip
2 boxes of frozen chopped spinach
2 cans artichoke hearts
5 ounces shredded parmesan cheese
2 boxes of cream cheese
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
Thaw the spinach and gently boil it in 3 cups of water for 8 minutes. Chop the artichoke hearts and add them to the spinach. Boil another 2 minutes.
Place the cream cheese in a large bowl and microwave on high for 90 seconds.
In a separate small bowl, add the parmesan cheese and all of the spices.
Once the spinach and artichokes are done, drain well (squeeze slightly) and mix into the bowl with the cream cheese. All the parmesan cheese and spices and stir well.
Serve warm with tortilla chips or Melba toast. This dish reheats very well.
9 Layer Dip
2 cans refried beans
2 packages of taco seasoning
2 packages of refrigerated guacamole
16 ounces of sour cream (stir well)
4 cups shredded lettuce
2 small cans of chopped green chilies
2 small cans of chopped black olives
1 cup diced onion
2 cups diced tomatoes (drain well)
4 cups shredded Colby jack cheese
Mix the refried beans and taco seasoning together and spread on a large platter.
Layer the remaining ingredients in the order listed. I like to cover the guacamole completely with the sour cream so the edges to not turn brown.
Serve cold with tortilla chips.
Another super quickie is a tray of apple slices with carmel dip. I slice the apples at the last minute and immediately place them in a cold water bath with a generous dash of lemon juice. They stay nice for several hours! Edit to add that I drain the apples before serving...heh.
