I was sitting here thinking about the first time DH and I made a trip to WDW. We drove straight through, or I should say my DH drove straight through from VA to almost 45 miles from FL border. Then I took over and drove those last 45 miles to the border.
Funny moments-
1.) The fact my DH drove all that way without resting, and I slept the entire way except for my 45 miles and when we reached the FL border I proclaimed how tired I was and we slept at the rest area's parking lot for 2.5 hrs

Last year we survived Isabel at my parent's house (fearing our apartment building would not go without SOME damage) only to have a tree at my parent's house fall onto a neighbor's home, and our apartment went without a stitch of damage. We had gone without flushing toilets and showers for 3 days when we packed up the car that Saturday and drove to WDW.
Greatest moment:
2.) Stopping overnight at a motel in GA for the BEST shower I have ever had in my life!

3.) My pic of my DH on the ferry to MK.... picking his nose! Priceless! Although he still proclaims he was scratching ;)

Of course that is only 1% of my favorite moments from WDW trips, but these are the ones you don't always hear about.

So what are yours??? :teeth: :earseek:

When I was in high school in the late 80's, we went to WDW over Halloween. Back then, they did some pretty cool things at the Haunted Mansion to celebrate Halloween. My best friend and I were in line for the Haunted Mansion with our families. In the cemetary near the front doors to the mansion we saw a man dressed as a werewolf lurking around. He was very creepy looking! He was even carrying a fake dead mouse in his mouth. Anyway, when we were in the circular room, he showed up again and left right before the doors closed. He had us and the rest of the guests pretty freaked out, but of course we knew he was just part of the show. I think by now the "werewolf" had identified me and my friend as two perfect guests to have fun with scaring! He was waiting near the que lines inside to board the ride, and then disappeared again. I was sure he was going to pop his head in somewhere along the ride route and scare the you know what out of me! But, figuring it was Disney afterall, I thought, nah, they won't go that far. Well, as we exited the ride there was no sight of him. My friend and I were walking with my dad out through the area with the beams/pillars before you get back near the entrance to the attraction when I felt someone touch my shoulder. I looked over and there he was - the werewolf! My dad said that he could see the blood drain from my face! I was so scared, I took off running towards Fantasyland. I will never forget this as long as I live. I am not sure how many years they did this, but I am pretty sure they do not do it anymore. They use to also have someone dressed like a scarecrow standing behind a fence near the Haunted Mansion too. People would stand and stare at him trying to determine whether he was real or not. Of course he would eventually move a little and people would realize it was a real person. I guess now if you want those kind of experience you have to go to Universal Studios at Halloween time.

My greatest memory is actually my boyfriend during his first trip to WDW. The whole time leading up the trip he nodded with whatever I said and didn't seem excited at all.... boy did that change! When we got to the park, he was like a different person.. we had to go on every ride (even the "kiddie" ones), get pics with every character, etc..

I was amazed. This year, his one request? Character breakfast at CP again :rotfl:

when i visited the MK for the first time many years ago and just newly married i remember seeing the the castle and tears ran down my face as i was so touched by actually being there. years later when i brought my three kids, ages 4, 6 and 9 they all had tears also when seeing the castle for the first time. i have cried every time that we've gone back. its not a sad cry but a very happy and joyfull cry. just a note to ad, my kids are now 19, 21 and 24 and we all still get emotional together. isn't disney wonderful!!!

hi pumpkinfish-when i read your post i couldn't believe it-- we left for disney the saturday after isabel hit virginia beach-AND we are leaving in 18 days to stay at the Beach Club-SO NEAT:wave:

BoCat,

That is so neat! I just told my DH. He said we should become friends and hang out while we are down there ;)

We are just PRAYING that there won't be another hurricane.

tigger53,
I know EXACTLY what you mean! I cry too! I never thought I was the only one, but it feels good to hear someone else say it (or type it at least). I literally get tingles down my arm...

bethzfl,
Don't you love when people are converted? Especially those loved ones close to you. It makes me smile to know that you both can enjoy disney at the same level. I believe that is so important.

On DD's first trip to WDW (she was 2), she got to ride the Pooh ride with Piglet, then a little later shw got to open Toontown with Donald and Daisy.

I'll never forget the look on her face.

im keeping my fingers crossed hoping we don't have a hurricane here in va before we leave-also when hurricane Charley went through Orlando and was on its way up to va I was more concerned about Orlando then I was for my home state. Most definitely i hope we have good weather while in Disney. If you don't mind me asking where in va do you live? Are you flying or driving? We're flying we got a great rate thru Southwest and it only takes 1 hour & 30 minutes to get to Orlando verus the 12 hour drive.

Bocat,

We are in bad news ;) (aka Newport News).
Yeah, another storm is not welcome, and when charley came through my eyes were more on FL than here. I know everyone was all concerned, but what happened down there was not gonna happen here at home.

And alas, we are driving. I don't know what it is. I think my DH and I like to drive to create fanatastic memories! Actually, if you have read my fave memories, you know I hardly drive the distance at all. And we can usually do it in 11 hrs total. DH has a thing with driving like he is still in NY. Fast and aggressive. That's why I sleep...it freaks me out! :crazy2:

Does anyone else have a fave WDW trip memory???

:sunny:

I do! -

When we went down for our honeymoon in Sept 2002. This was DH first trip. We arrived at the ASMu about 4 and unpacked. We headed over to the GF for a great character meal and to ride the monorail. The conducter saw our newlywed ears and let us ride in front. As the monorail went past the castle to see the expression on DH's face as he had his first glimpse!

When we got off the monorail we sat on the beach at the GF to watch the Electrical Water Parade. There was NO one else on the beach and it was so romantic to sit there and anticipate the next 14 days of magic!!

maxie, I just had chills from reading your reply.
Thanks for sharing that magical moment. I always say it is little things that make a trip truly special- anywhere, not just at wdw. But wdw has magic all it's own.:cloud9:

My little boy has autism and his "obsession" before we left for our trip was snow white. Well we ate breakfast at Cindy's and when he met her he was so excited he was shaking. She arranged to meet us at a certain spot during so parade so she could take him out into the parade to meet the dwarfs when their float stopped and she did it. She carried him all around to each dwarf and introduced him and played ring around the rosie with him. I have it all on camcorder! We will never forget it. It made his trip and he still talks about it 4 years later!

llggood, that is truly special. Something you will always remember and you have it for years to come. That extra step is what makes Disney, Disney.

My favorite memory is from our December 2001 trip. It's not really about WDW, so I'm not sure if it fits this thread...but I'm gonna tell ya anyway! :p

My DH and I arrived at POR earlier than I had expected and our room wasn't ready. We decided to let them hold our luggage and wait in the lounge (where DH could watch football  ;) ). My sister and her family had arrived at WDW the previous day and we were all going to meet for dinner and go to MVMCP that night. I wasn't really expecting to see her until later in the day.

As we were relaxing in the lounge, my sister and her family walked through the door...they were coming back from Epcot to relax and get ready to meet us. It was unexpected to see them so early. My sister threw her arms up in the air and ran over to me squealing! We were like two little kids...all excited to be at WDW together and thrilled to see each other. We knew that the next week together would be filled with fun (after all, we'd been planning it for TWO years!)...and we were just so excited. :hyper: (to others we must have looked like two grown women behaving like kids...but, hey, it's Disney World!)

So, not really a memory of WDW...but a moment when WDW provided the setting for a great memory with my big sister! ::yes::

on our first onsite trip with my family and my brother and his family last sept.

1. watching my teen age son and my 7yo nephew while they watched the spectro/electric parade at mk. smiling, singing and waving at the floats, you would have thought they were both 7.

2. watching the fireworks at mk on our last night. after it was over, everyone hugged me and thanked me for the best trip ever.

now were going back in nov. yay

TerriP,

I have a younger sis so I know EXACTLY what you mean. We always talk about the day we will take our kids to WDW. (not quite there since she is still in college and DH and I have no kids yet).

One of my fave memories is my trip last year with three of my best friends.

We had just arrived that day and decided to go to MK for the remainder of the day and to see Spectro.

One of my friends had never been to WDW and the other two had been there, but not in years. None had seen Spectro.

I remember standing there watching Spectro on Main St and looking at the awe and big smiles on the faces of my friends. It was truly magical, all my hard planning for the trip had paid off in that moment.

I'm going with another friend in a couple of weeks and I'm sure we will have many good memories too!

There are so many wonderful memories of WDW!
Just a few for us:

1 - When my oldest daughter was 5, we met Ariel and she was very sweet with her and remarked how much my daughter looked like her daughter Melody from the Little Mermaid 2. My daughter was in heaven!! Almost 4 years later and my daughter still talks about it.

2- Seeing Wishes for the first time with my family. My mouth was hanging wide open b/c I was in such awe of that show!!! My daughter who is terrified of fireworks went with my mother to the train station to wait for us, but ventured out to see Wishes. She loved it and now watches fireworks! Of course, Wishes is our favorite and it brings a tear to the eye everytime we see it.

3 - Along with the Wishes, seeing Tinkerbell fly for the first time. My youngest is a HUGE Tinkerbell fan and when we saw her fly during Wishes this last May, my niece told her that Tink was waving just to her. She believes to this day that Tink waved to her and only her during Wishes.

Great thread! :sunny:

In 2000, DW & I took our first adults-only trip. We received a complimentary upgrade to a corner room, lake view at Coronado Springs. What a view! It remains our fave trip.
